kicking butt and taking selfies

Who: Tenten and ANYONE AND EVERYONE
Where: Blackthorn City hot springs
When: March 9th-10th
Summary: Tenten's birthday party!
Rating: G unless someone starts throwing punches and people start bleeding (likely).

Catch-all party post for Tenten! She's got so much money these days that she just rented the closest thing to an onsen-and-ryokan she could find. I'll be throwing up different areas and turning comments off, so feel free to thread amongst yourselves. It's a party post, you guys know how to do the thing. Also feel free to assume that Tenten would have made arrangements around March 3rd, and worked to try to get flyers to Fly people in if necessary.

ALSO IT'S GOING TO END UP THUNDERSTORMING (thanks, weather); everyone is invited to sleep over. There will be a thread for inside shenanigans, too.

Well, the equivalent of dinosaurs in our world were dragons, and they're very much still around, but still, you get the general idea.

You know, that does make me wonder... What about all the prehistoric Pokémon? You'd think they'd stick around when so many similar Pokémon exist in the wild.

[What makes an Aerodactyl any worse than an Onix or a Charizard? Sure, he read something about Omastar's shell being problematic, but that shouldn't apply to all those fossils.]

Maybe there was a mass extinction event that wiped them out, but not the forbears of modern Pokemon? That's how it tends to happen.

[She's not sure what sort of event like that could happen, or would be allowed to happen under the Legendaries' watch, but it's a possibility.]

Only thing I can think of is a string of major earthquakes, but it's not like that'd wipe out Lileps or Anorith. Guess humans could've hunted them to extinction, but would that really leave fossils behind?

[His brow furrows, and he sighs, throwing up his hands. Really, he's got nothing. You'd think extinction wouldn't even occur in a place like this.]

Maybe... one of the Legendaries did it.

[A terrifying thought, but if there was one thing that might overcome nature and the efforts of Legendaries, it was another, stronger Legendary Pokemon.]

There's Legendary Pokemon for most concepts... maybe extinction's one of them.

Extinction? Hmm...

[You know, that's entirely possible. In fact, if they stick on that train of thought...]

You think there's some kind of Pokémon grim reaper? Maybe a dark or a ghost type that controls death. It could be part of the reason why people here can die, but we can't.

I wouldn't be surprised, honestly. The description I've read of Dusknoir makes it seem like something similar to that, so if there's a more powerful version of that somewhere...

Still, you gotta wonder why it'd wipe out those species and not the others. Maybe there was some kind of weird infighting between legendaries that caused it.

[Heh. He vaguely recalls reading something about warring beasts that formed the oceans and the continents, so why not?]

Maybe they offended it somehow. Or maybe it was only going after the big, dominant species and the forbears to the ones we know hadn't yet evolved to the point where they qualified. That's how mass extinctions tend to work anyway, sort of.

[A great oversimplification and she knows it, but it's true that after those sort of events the smaller, less complex species tended to be the ones to survive.]

See, now I'm picturing an Aerodactyl poking at the bee's hive-- trying to compete with that big, tough legendary.

[He waves one of his hands, laughing dryly.]

But then, I don't have the best experience with those flying meat grinders.

I'm well aware, and trust me, I've never envied you your experiences with Terror. If even half of the species out there were as bad as her, there's a part of me that wouldn't really blame a Legendary for deciding things needed to change.

Though I don't think I'd ever really be able to make that choice myself... [Then again, she's not a godlike force of nature.]
