TRAINING MONTAGE
Who: Solid Snake
imthe_shit and Otacon
otakon_geek
Where: Mahogany Town, near the border of the city.
When: March 21st, afternoon.
Summary: Snake is helping Otacon train up his piplup, and tiny plastic balls rain from the sky.
Rating: PG for language?
Log:
It had been a really long time since Snake had done any training of his own, or battling for that matter. He had tried to battle the Pokemon outside, but it had proved often too much for his own team, safe for Asimov, but he spent more time trying to hug the soldier rather than battle for him.
Ever since he joined the PGC, Snake began to feel restless... and he knew that he probably shouldn't stay in Mahogany forever. At first it seemed like an all right idea; he could catch up with Heather, stay with her, protect her... Since he abandoned her before, at least, that's what it felt like. But now, she had family and friends by her side. She wasn't alone anymore, and even if Snake did go to another town, they'd be connected through the 'Gear. The old soldier brought a hand up to his face, smoothing over the scarred tissue... It was strange being here. His memories of Eastern Europe were so clear, and yet barely any time had passed since the first time he left and came back in his own world, but here, it had been three years. He felt like a man out of time.
As Snake mulled over these thoughts, he looked up at the sky. Sun and clouds... No rain, so no type advantage... And not overly hot, either. Perfect conditions for battling. He adjusted his coat and bandanna-- it had been a while since he even bothered to put on his sneaking suit, but decided that would probably be better for PGC missions, whenever that happened.
Snake had called out Otacon to come and battle him a while ago... now he just waited for him to come out.

Snake had called out Otacon to come and battle him a while ago... now he just waited for him to come out.

The engineer looked up at the sky, as he made his way to the border of the town. He soon spotted Snake in his coat and bandanna and gave him a wave, as he walked to meet his friend.
"Made it. It looks like a good day for a battle, don't you think?"

Snake smiled at his friend, returning the wave with a nod of his head. Reaching to his belt which was hidden away under his coat, Snake retrieved a Pokeball and released its contents onto the ground... Boss, the Torkoal, came out and snorted a lot of smoke into the air.
"He's going to be your opponent. Don't worry... I just plan on getting you into the basics. I'm not going to go hard on you until you've got at least the basics down, all right?"
The old soldier walked a way steps back, setting the stage for the battle. "Your penguin can't battle from your shoulder. Have him stand a few feet ahead of you, and we'll get things started."

"You'll be fine, Piplup. Just believe in yourself, ok?" He felt like giving his Pokémon some supportive words, as this was his very first trainer battle. Otacon gave Snake a nod, waiting for the old soldier to begin.

"All right. Let's see..." Snake takes out his PokéGear, activating the PokéDex function, "Going to the Pokédex will let you see information about your Pokémon or anyone else's... you can also see its moveset on here." Man, it was like regurgitating everything he learned from his two times being here. Snake felt like this was him explaining how his gear worked to Otacon... this really was role-reversed, huh?
"If you know what level your penguin is, try looking at its moveset on here." He blinks and looks at Boss, "My Torkoal is level 15... And it knows Ember, Withdraw, Smog and Curse." He puts his Pokédex away and nods to Otacon, "Okay, now you try it with your guy."

"Since Piplup is still Level 5, he doesn't know Bubble yet. He has to be Level 8 to learn that move." He looked at Snake and wondered what he thought on the matter. "He could use those two moves he does know against your Torkoal."
no subject
The Torkoal could tell that Snake's tone was serious and possibly reprimanding, so he just nodded his head in response and withdrew his head a little.
"Whenever you're ready, Otacon."

"Piplup? Use Pound on Torkoal!" He shot a look of encouragement at the penguin, who sprang forwards towards the tortoise and used Pound on his head. His little wings slapping furiously at Torkoal's face.

David, however, just smirked in amusement, "Boss, use Withdraw." As if on cue, the Torkoal sucked his head and legs (to a degree) into his large shell, his defense raising significantly. "Withdraw's not a physical attack; it's used to strengthen his defense. So now your moves will it even weaker, but it gives you a chance to practice them more."
no subject
Withdraw, huh? "So, this is a defensive move, right?" Otacon looked at Snake. He admired how much of it's body Torkoal could actually tuck into it's shell. "Piplup, use Growl this time." Otacon looked at Piplup, as he issued the command. Piplup nodded and let out a squeaky growl towards Torkoal.

...Boss was pretending to be scared of the Piplup. That was kind of adorable. Snake smirked.
"Now Boss's move strength is weakened, but it's not going to make much of a difference to a higher leveled Pokémon. Try to keep that in mind."
no subject
"Yeah, ok. If a Pokémon keeps using a strength weakening move, won't the Pokémon suffer fatigue in the end?" He was curious to know how it would effect a Pokémon of equal strength. Piplup stood with his wings at his hips looking defiantly at Torkoal.
