☆ YOU ARE HERE ☆

KEY:
BLUE areas are where the bulk of the party's events will be located! As you can see, the festivities will be taking place largely outdoors, and the grounds will reflect that; there'll be the usual decorations of pretty floral arrangements, little lights, things like that. Think upscale garden party! There'll also be a ballroom indoors for more traditionally fancy red-carpet goings-on, but most of the action (and volume of guests) will be found mingling out back.
GREEN areas are where guests will be staying overnight! Unfortunately, you'll be sleeping-bagging it up, since there's a limited amount of bedrooms in this house and they're all being occupied by Clair, Lance, the Elite Four, and guests who are regrettably way more important than you. However, this is where you'll be given space to leave your possessions, claim some sleeping room, and generally crash for the night once the festivities do you in. (Note: you're welcome to try to sleep elsewhere, but Clair might catch you and disapprove. You don't want that, do you?)
RED areas are unfortunately off-limits to guests! If asked about them, anyone will tell you that those are the rooms and areas that the Elite Four (and their special guests) have claimed for themselves, and they're sealed off tight. Please don't try to break into them anyway; you'll only be caught and punished.

AREA A is the designated Indoor Ballroom area, for the people who prefer the classy elegance of a formal red-carpet gala over the more whimsy outdoor garden party atmosphere in the back. There's a big skylight, hardwood floors, tasteful artwork, and classy music — a little more upscale than the shenanigans going on outside, for the people who'd rather that kind of thing.

AREA B will be the area of interest for anyone hoping to sneak a little Pokemon research on the side: this is the Library/Gallery area of the house. While most of it is your standard "tall shelves of ancient identical books" fare, there are a few points of interest — we've detailed them further right here. Guests are welcome to look around a little, but burying themselves in research the whole time will be highly frowned upon, and you'll be politely encouraged to leave the library alone and go rejoin the festivities if you hole up in there for too long.

AREA C is...well, the Parking Lot. More importantly, it's where you take your Pokemon battles if you simply gotta get your battle on; keep it out and away from the house, please, and try not to make too much of a mess. Skirmishes, sorties, and sparring will be tolerated here and here alone. Do it anywhere else and you'll be facing some very displeased hosts.

AREA D is the Elite Four's Trophy Room. Please be quiet and respectful if you come up here to have a look around; it's a solemn kind of place. Here you'll find various collections of badges, ribbons, awards, and trophies put on display, with one wall devoted to each member of the Elite Four. There are also pictures of the Elite Four members themselves, though it seems there's been a changeover since the last prom; the candids and Official Portraits™ depict different people entirely now (with the exception of Bruno) and there are a few photos of some sort of ceremony among the others. These photos include Lance being declared Champion of both regions by Professor Oak, while the rest of the Elite Four look on; Lorelai hugging Will and Karen immediately after their promotion to Elite Four; Agatha and Koga having an exhibition battle between her Gengar and his Crobat; all six of them piling into the frame for what amounts to a massive group selfie, etc.

[SURE IS - wait that's a dragon - wait something about battling?]

O-oh! I - uh, certainly! Hoy, Kaga, to me!

[She has just enough restraint to keep from rolling her eyes, but she does comply while Walter scrambles to his feet.]

It's to be between just the two of them, I gather?

That's right! Unless you want to field more than just your Blaziken; I have a feeling Garchomp will be all that I need!

[And the approving growl that Garchomp lets out at that seems to confirm her statement.]

You can have the first move.

[Well that's not foreboding at all.

Walter and Kaga exchange a look before the Blaziken moves into stance.]

You know what to do? [CAW] At the ready, then - and go!

[Kaga, like most of her species, is agile, and she's learned to use that to her advantage at the beginning of a battle before engaging in close physical combat. She darts forward, loosing a Fire Spin at Garchomp, then jumps back, waiting to see whether Garchomp will follow her or return a long-range attack of its own. Walter starts walking along his "edge" of the "battlefield" to get a better view of the action.]

All right! This will be fun!

[And, bless her, she really does seem to be enjoying herself as Garchomp enters the battle herself, bringing up one shark-finned arm to block the Fire Spin and letting loose a mighty roar that thunders through the air as it does so.]

You're pretty fast, aren't you? Let's do something about that, Garchomp! Sand Tomb!

[OH GOD SUDDENLY SAND EVERYWHERE WHAT DO]

[What do, indeed. This isn't a move they've had to deal with often before, and never at this level of power. It cuts both Kaga's agility and her visibility, though Walter has a clear enough view of the battlefield to see what happened with Garchomp - the fire barely did anything.

He calls for a Focus Energy, and Kaga obliges, fighting to regain her stance on a ground now piled with sand. Like trainer, like Pokemon - all of her best physical moves are high-risk, and she's going to need a better opportunity to move in if she's going to land a hit.]

[To her credit, Cynthia's just kind of smiling as she lets Walter and Kaga get themselves situated; the sand flying everywhere is doing its job of applying pressure on her rival Pokemon and trainer, and it would be a shame to end this before Cynthia's really had a chance to see what the Blaziken can do.

Garchomp's still looking as healthy and strong as ever, even despite the glancing blow it took from that Fire Spin; it won't hurt to wait a little longer and see if her opponent really can manage to find a way to push her into a corner.

In a way, she's almost looking forward to it.]

Go!

[Nothing to do but go for it. Fire blossoms around Kaga's feet and legs as she bounds towards Garchomp, closing the distance and -

- going for a Sky Uppercut instead, hoping the emphasis on her feet was enough of a fake-out to provide an opening for a fist aimed at Garchomp's jaw.]

[Oh, well played! Garchomp does in fact take the hit, roaring and hurtling backwards a few steps as the punch connects. Luckily, she's a tough girl and at a good high level, so while she looks a little shaken afterward, she's still on her feet and it seems as though she was able to mitigate some of the damage through good reflexes, protecting herself from the worst of the blow.

But now Cynthia has a gleam in her eye, and she's watching the arc of the parabola that Kaga is following quite carefully. Blaziken are known for their extraordinary jumping skills, and that means there'll be a few extra seconds of leeway before she hits the ground.

A few extra seconds is the perfect amount of time, really.

So she waits, timing the descent with a critical eye, and just when Kaga is too close to the ground to alter her course without setting foot against the earth — ]

Use Earthquake!

[— Garchomp slams one home for Glorious Sinnoh, and the ground begins to rumble violently, shaking and upheaving and generally presenting an incredibly hostile environment for Kaga to land on.

...and, well, for everyone in the general vicinity because WHAT THE HELL, CYNTHIA, YOU CAN'T JUST GO GROUND SHAKING THE ENTIRE ESTATE WITHOUT WARNING SOMEBODY]
beholdmydemons: (shock - YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR MIND)

[personal profile] beholdmydemons 2014-04-22 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
[Walter's Pokemon tend to be pretty self-directing; his role as a Trainer is usually to provide an outside perspective and issue directional commands when the battle gets hectic and difficult to navigate with a clear head.

But there's really not much he can do when she goes and does that, because who ever expects that to happen and also he's doing as much falling on his ass over here as anyone else CYNTHIA WHY so poor Kaga is on her own for now.

And this isn't a great situation to be on one's own in. Lots of shaking and ground moving and lack of secure footing and thus lots of jumping around spasmodically and TRAINER, TRAINER WHAT DO I DO TRAINER GET UP I CAN'T KICK HER IF I CAN'T WALK

TRAINER

TRAINER PLEASE

And unfortunately for everything right now, Kaga's fallback in panic situations where she can't do anything effective and NEEDS INSTRUCTIONS BADLY is to whip out Mirror Move and pray to Arceus that her opponent gave her something more situationally useful than a kick or a cooler kick.

So for right now the solution to Earthquake is just...More Earthquake. Someone's going to get a talking to after all this is over.]
