Summary: After a meeting at the Prom, Ren has no choice but to return to Goldenrod to hold his end of the deal.

[The end of prom was the start of a chapter in Ren's life he had avoided for over a year. Dist and Kato had managed to talk him into a very simple deal that had no guarantee of ever actually holding. Still, if there was even the slightest chance of saving his fiancee from harm, he would take it.

After making his final preparations at the Pokémon Center, he headed towards the Department Store. It didn't take too long when he had prepared everything before leaving the prom. At least with that someone would know what was happening, even if he couldn't say any details because he had no idea what would happen. They did set a meeting in Goldenrod, but who knew where he'd en up to.

He was really doing this. Letting himself get turned in. Letting Team Rocket get a hold of him. Frankly, he had thought no one cared when it had been a year. He hadn't been a member for over a year. No one still most likely knew he had been a spy. Deserter. That's the only crime he was getting caught for... or so he hoped.

With a deep sigh, Ren entered the Department Store.]

[Just as discussed, Dist and Kato were waiting for Ren when he came in.

They were standing off to the side and out of the way of traffic, talking softly to each other and holding shopping bags like they were just regular shoppers resting after a day in the Department Store. Dist's Roserade, Rosamund, was out and scanning the crowd for their target. It didn't take her long to spot Ren, having seen him many times when he used to be a member of Team Rocket.

She quickly turned and poked at Dist's leg to get his attention, pointing at Ren with her other arm. Peering down to see what his Pokemon wanted, he followed to where she was pointing and...aha. A smirk quickly formed on his face. This was really happening.]

He's here, Kato.

[Making sure he had Ren's eye contact, he beckoned him over with a quick flick of his wrist.]

[Kato's Pokemon of choice is his Lunatone, who has taken to hovering around his head (although fortunately, unlike at the prom, he's not spinning around excitedly this time). His trainer is dressed quite casually, without his gloves, scarf, mask or coat; really, he and his partner look quite normal and blend in nicely.

Just how they wanted it.

At Dist's comment, Kato flicks his eyes over in the direction he indicates, a smirk beginning to form on his face as he spots their target. Well well...he'd kept his end of the bargain. He must really care about that girl - whoever she is. He really must ask Dist to point her out the next time she's wandering around the base...

As Ren moves within earshot, Kato raises a hand in a friendly greeting and smiles - you know, how you'd great an old friend.

After all, isn't that what they were? Heh heh heh...]

My, you're right on time. It must be true love.

[Ren felt his mood crash even lower when he saw Dist and Kato waiting for him. They really were here, just like they had said. The situation just became even more real. He felt like leaving, but instead he just walked over to the two other men.

He stops himself from grimacing over Kato's words. Instead he's keeping his expression as neutral as possible. He'd need to put up with both of them for a while, after all. No use in getting worked up right away.]

Of course it is.

[They are clearly the best of friends. Ren's meeting up with them so they can go have dinner and catch up since Ren's been out of town for so long!

Right?

Oh, guess not.]

True love indeed. You've done the right thing, Ren. For your fiancee and yourself.

[Just imagine how brutal it would be if a Rocket had to go out and capture Ren forcefully! Not very fun at all, for sure. Dist and Kato are doing Ren a favor by bringing him in without harming him. He should be grateful!]

Are you ready to get this show on the road?

[You're so right, Dist; plus, this way you and him barely have to do any work! Really, if all their missions involved going shopping and then leisurely escorting someone back to the base, they'd be the most loyal Team Rocket members ever. Although perhaps not the richest...there have been some wonderful sales on, lately...

...ahem. Right.]

I'm sure she'll appreciate the sacrifice you're making for her.

[...oooh, speaking of which...]

Is she aware this is happening?

Can you be ready for something like this?

[How wonderful for them both. This must be the easiest way to get some fame on the team. Ren would have loved a mission like that... except he never would have turned in someone who ran away.

Utau would be appreciate this? Haha... No. She won't.]

She isn't. [Not yet. He wouldn't have been able to leave if he had told her.] I didn't tell a soul.

I'd say you should have been ready the moment you chose to leave us in the first place. You honestly didn't think you could get away with it indefinitely, did you?

[Dist imagines it caught Ren off guard to be caught a year after the fact. That just makes it all the more amusing, really, to think you've gotten away with something and all of the sudden your actions come back to bite you.]

Good, so you followed our conditions exactly. Very considerate of you. It's good to know you're taking this seriously.

[Because the last thing they need is outsiders knowing about what's going on.]

I'm sure she'll be very grateful - we'll have to ask her about it, next time we see her around the base.

[And with an appropriately evil chuckle, Kato turns and starts to head towards Team Rocket HQ, beckoning for Ren to walk ahead of him and Dist. He doesn't really expect Ren to try and pull a fast one on them (not exactly the wisest of ideas, considering their leverage over him) but he's not an idiot and he'd rather not have an enemy positioned on his blind side.

That's another reason why Kato has his Lunatone out, and why the creature seems oddly focused - he's scanning the area for potential threats. Who knows what sort of little friends Ren could have that don't agree with this treatment?

The fact that Kato isn't convinced of Utau's ignorance doesn't help.]

That's enough smalltalk. I trust you remember which way to go?

[Too bad Utau isn't going to return to the base, not that Ren is going to say anything about that. He'll let them find out by themselves.

The streets they're walking are far too familiar to him. He did spend quite a lot of time in this particular base. Despite this, Ren shrugs.]

I suppose.

[Yes, perhaps it's best if they get moving. They don't want to draw too much attention to themselves...or potential witnesses if Ren decides to turn on them and make a scene.

As they walk toward the base, Dist makes sure to stay vigilant as well. Rosamund is doing a wonderful job as a backup scout for Ranpu. Despite her size, she's got a pretty good eye for anything suspicious. She stays close to her trainer in case she needs to alert him of anything.

It's actually annoying to Dist that they have to be so vigilant, but it's understandable why. If there's anything about plans like theirs, it's that people love to try to ruin them. Best to be prepared for the potential annoyances.]

You suppose? Come now Ren, have more confidence in yourself! We would hate to have to waste our time correcting you if you suddenly took a wrong turn.

Indeed; we don't take kindly to those who waste our time. Coincidently, neither do our superiors.

[You know what this looks like, Dist? This looks like the opportune moment to be a complete and utter douchebag. He loves being a complete and utter douchebag!]

So don't make us late, or they're the ones you'll have to deal with. Moreso than you're going to, anyway~

I'd say you're wasting time with me in general. I bet the reward will be a pat on the back.

[But since he doesn't want to get into extra trouble, he'll head the right way. What a weird looking group they must be.]

[Strangely enough, that comment from Ren actually causes Dist to twitch a little bit, for reasons that will quickly become apparent. The annoyance in his voice when he responds is a good indicator that he's mildly annoyed now.]

If you think the only reason we're turning you in is for personal gain within the organization, you are sorely mistaken, Mr. Jinguji.

[It's a reason, but it's not the only one.]

You've been allowed to roam free and be a general nuisance with no consequence for far too long. Perhaps you'll learn a valuable lesson not to cross us, once our superiors are done with you. Your punishment will make a fine example to other weak-minded grunts that think deserting is a good idea.

[Damn, Dist; sometimes he forgets that you actually have a bit of power in the organization, and then you go saying things like that. He approves.]

Listen to your superior, Ren; you're already in enough trouble as it is without adding another thing to the list of your transgressions.

[Really, he has to try very hard not to let out an evil chuckle or two.

...okay, he totally just let out an evil chuckle. This is so much fun! We are such douchebags, Dist, and he loves it!]

Dist and I simply have a responsibility to bring traitors like you back into line. Any rewards we receive for our efforts are merely perks~

[Oh right. There were people who actually did things for the team. Those who were actually loyal. Ren would never understand why they bothered.]

Though it's hard to listen to what my Superior has to say when all I hear talking are a couple of mad scientists with horrible hairstyles.

[Dist can be somewhat serious and no-bullshit when he really tries!

This is definitely one of those times, especially since Ren's basically trying to rile him up at this point. It takes all his willpower to not get legitimately angry. He's not going to let Ren win this one.

"Loyal" is a funny word, though...]

And you wonder why we're going through the added effort of turning you in. I should remind you that we've chosen not to rough you up because you've been such a willing prisoner, but if you keep those comments up I may just change my mind.

[His hand is on his hip now, where his Pokeballs are attached to his belt. He has plenty of powerful Pokemon he could send out to put the boy in his place, should it come to that.]

[Unlike Dist, Kato isn't bothered by Ren's attempted insults - if anything, he's amused. However, he's also well aware that his partner isn't quite as calm as him, so to prevent any potential...scenes, he steps over to Dist and places a hand on his shoulder.]

Ignore him. All I hear is the desperate bleating of one who knows he's lost. Don't let him sour our victory for you.

[Turning back to face Ren, Kato isn't exactly going to any effort to hide his rather sadistic smirk.]

Although it's probably in your best interests to control your tongue, Mr Jinguji. As much as I'd prefer to deliver you in one piece, we'll get the same reward whether we give you over to the superiors or take care of you in some filthy alley.

Do keep that in mind, won't you?

[Two quite different reactions. Though Kato might be right about the desperate bleating part. He might just be trying to escape the reality but testing his limits in this situation, since he really didn't want to think about what would happen at the base.

Though he didn't want to get beaten up by these two. Anything was better than letting them get the honors.]

Sure, sure. I'll behave.

[Let's play this role of a willing prisoner till the bitter end, then.]

[Dist briefly looks at Kato beside him, eyes still intense with annoyance, then nods slowly and allows his hand to fall back to his side.]

Yes, you're right. I was hardly going to allow him to ruin it for me, however. After all, it's going to be satisfying no matter which way we go about it.

['cause really, roughing Ren up probably would've felt pretty good if those insults got any worse. Curse him for knowing the right buttons to push though!

He returns his gaze forward, ahead of Ren.]

Good. Start by keeping your mouth shut until we reach our destination. It's not much further, anyway.

[Just as Dist said, the Rocket Base is not much further, and they're soon shoving Ren down a hidden alley next to the Radio Tower in order to gain entrance to the base. Kato keeps his Lunatone scanning the area as they make their way inside - both for threats, and for nosy passers-by. The last thing they need is to have some random citizen finding their way into the Team's biggest base.

Giving a mocking bow as the entrance slides open, Kato indicates for Ren to enter.]

After you. We mad scientists do still have manners, after all.

[The closer they got to the base, the more nervous Ren felt. Though he didn't want to show this to the other two, it was pretty clear that his body was tense all over.

Clenching one of his hands into a fist, he entered through the sliding doors into the familiar atmosphere of the base, paying no attention to Kato's words. At least he's being quiet like he was told to be.

Well then. What next?]

[Dist and Rosamund follow behind Ren and Kato as they head inside. They briefly pause just inside and Dist places his hands on his hips, smiling almost cheerfully. Quite a change from how he was previously.]

Home sweet home, eh Mr. Jinguji? Doesn't it fill you with pleasant memories to be back here after all this time? I'm sure some of the other older members will be so thrilled to see you again.

[Not that he plans on giving Ren a reunion tour of the base. They already have a designated place in mind to take him, and that's right where they'll head. So this time, Dist stands beside Ren and glances at Kato to take their prisoner's other side.]
