I don't know this world any better than you do, but from everything I've seen here so far... I wouldn't really be shocked if there was something that could do that. Some sort of psychic-type.
I'm not saying that this being was malevolent at all, considering we've apparently been brought here to fight bad people. I just.... don't trust that those voices we heard were genuine.
