HOENNWEEN: BOSS BATTLE LOG

Who: Hoennween Plot Participants!
Where: Tohjo Falls!
When: Thursday, October 30th
Summary: You've taken the Elite Four's estate and reaped the (stolen? borrowed? requisitioned) benefits waiting for you inside it. But come morning, an earthquake signals the arrival of two incredibly belligerent Legendaries and the Team Bosses who've summoned them.
Rating: PG-13 in general; please mark threads that go higher accordingly!
Log:

YOU ARE HERE. YOU'RE FIGHTING THESE GUYS.

THIS IS STILL YOUR BACKGROUND MUSIC, AND THIS IS STARTING TO LOOK LIKE AN EPISODE OF JACKASS.

KEY:
GRAY areas in the north are a range of mountains that form a natural barrier around part of the Tohjo plain where the Elite Four's resort is located. This is where you will find and battle Maxie, his Team Magma Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Groudon, all right.

GREEN areas in the southeast and southwest are densely-packed forested areas interspersed by lakes and rivers that seem to be feeding into the main waterway into the area. It is both difficult and dangerous to venture into the woodlands proper, but this seems to be where a lot of the Team Aqua Grunts are stationed now.

• The BLUE area in the south is the massive lake that feeds the eponymous falls that give Tohjo its name. This is where you will find and battle Archie, his Team Aqua Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Kyogre, all right.

PINK diamonds in the east and west are the sites of massive formations of Mysterious Plot Crystals™ jutting up from beneath the surface; the Grunts will not be found around these today, so if your character is looking for a safe zone well away from the crossfire, they will want to hole up near these.

• The BROWN rectangle dead-center in the map is...the Elite Four's resort. It's even more unfortunately-located today than it was yesterday. However, people willing to risk the crossfire between the Legendaries and get into the house will have access to all of the battle and healing items discussed up here!

A FEW OTHER SETTING NOTES:

• As per Arceus's summon, there will be Gen VI Pokemon joining the battle on their own! You may NPC these Pokemon, within reasonable limits; you may not capture them in Pokeballs, and they are still wild so they will not take commands from characters the way a captured Pokemon would from its trainer. However, they do recognize that the portaled-in humans are fighting on roughly the same side as they are, so they won't attack player characters and might occasionally come to their aid if need be — you're free to NPC them as you like for purposes such as this.

• The aforementioned Gen VI Pokemon can be any Pokemon that swarmed during September, plus any of their evolved forms. They've had several weeks in the wild to get buff and settle in; now you can see what they've got to show for it!

• You may NPC the Team Aqua and Team Magma Grunts as you see fit; either one can reasonably be found anywhere on the map, though they're avoiding the crystals and keeping close to their bosses — that means Team Magma will be more highly-concentrated in the northern areas of the map, and Team Aqua will be staying to the south.

• Due to the nature of the battlefield and the fact that the team leaders are going to be defending their Legendary of choice, if you choose to fight the bosses, please select whether you are going after Archie or Maxie on this particular log - you may go after one but not both.

• However, there is no restriction on how many Aqua and Magma Grunts you may fight!

• You may forego Pokemon battling entirely and simply beat up the Grunts with physical violence yourself. If you KO a Grunt, they will white out and be warped to the nearest Pokemon Center back down in the regions proper, where they will be arrested by an officer of the Kangaskhan Police.

FOR CHARACTERS INTENDING TO USE HONEDGES LIKE WEAPONS: due to the high volume of questions we have received on this topic (it's a popular inquiry!), we want to clarify for this Pokemon in particular —

If you choose to use a Honedge as though it were a traditional sword, the most that the Honedges will allow might be slapping the grunts with the flat side of the blade. They are still opposed to attacking/killing humans, opponents or not, and if you try to stab an opponent with them, you're going to get a really obstinate ghost sword going incorporeal and ineffectively going through them. There's also the fact that you're grabbing them by the head and swinging them around — they won't like that very much.

PLEASE NOTE: if you intend to use a Honedge in this manner anyway, we may ask that you experience light IC consequences for it later in the plot! We're not barring you from getting your sword skills on with your Honedges; we're simply pointing out that there may be natural outcomes that follow from those choices.

UPDATE: if you would like to interrogate the grunts, check here for information you can learn from them!

~

☆ THE NUMBER TO MEET OR BEAT IS 37 PARTICIPANTS.

REMEMBER: IF YOUR CHARACTER DOES NOT POST TO THE BOSS BATTLE LOG AT LEAST ONCE
(AS A TOP-LEVEL COMMENT OR IN RESPONSE TO SOMEONE ELSE'S TOP-LEVEL COMMENT)
BEFORE 9:00 PM EST on OCTOBER 30, THEY WILL NOT COUNT TOWARD THE 37-PARTICIPANT GOAL!

Oh, this?

[As though he hadn't noticed the magnificent beard and five spoons Alekhine has sudden come in possession of.]

I'm not quite sure how it happened, but it seems that Alekhine has evolved. I didn't think another evolution was possible for him, but apparently I was wrong.

[Alekhine rolls his eyes. No one cares, Archer.]
explosivecombat: (I haven't the vaguest where he's gone)

[personal profile] explosivecombat 2014-10-30 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
...Another one...

[He's quiet for a moment, thinking that over, before glancing down at those crystals he's playing with.]

Something to do with these, do you think?
sitdownbecider: (Nothin' like good ol' hard work.)

[personal profile] sitdownbecider 2014-10-30 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Applejack's learned from many fights with Rainbow Dash that the best way to get your opponent off-balance is to get them mad.]

Strategy's more Twilight's game but...

[The earth begins to shake, closer and more localized than the tremors let out by Groudon. In an instant, the ground gives way beneath the Crobat, a Rhyperior bursting from the earth to deliver a surprise Stone Edge.]

I reckon she's taught me a thing or two.
sadisticwarfare: (♕ 09)

[personal profile] sadisticwarfare 2014-10-30 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
It's entirely possible. Psychic-types have been acting oddly for quite some time, so it wouldn't surprise me if the crystals have something to do with it. I haven't seen formations this large before, so perhaps whatever power they have wasn't enough before now.
explosivecombat: (I suppose that could be equally relevant)

[personal profile] explosivecombat 2014-10-30 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Possibly...I've seen a fair few Pokémon taking forms they shouldn't be able to, though it doesn't work for all of them.

[Have a pointed look, Ayanami.]
sadisticwarfare: (♕ 14)

[personal profile] sadisticwarfare 2014-10-30 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
There must be some sort of pattern to it. It's something I'll have to study later.

[He'll also have to study what Alekhine can do with his powers now, but for the time being he's content to bother Kimblee.]

Why have you decided to aid the blue team?

[Wait, wait, let him guess. He knows Kimblee pretty well, so let's see here... The red team is running around using a bunch of Fire and Ground-types. The blue team seems to have mostly Water-types. HMM...]

...It's because of the type advantage, correct? You'd rather side with the team that will win.
me_first: (smoke break)

[personal profile] me_first 2014-10-30 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
... How does that... work?

[Abstract looks excited. She wants to evolve!]
explosivecombat: (How cruel...)

[personal profile] explosivecombat 2014-10-30 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
[Kimblee just laughs a little, the sound understated.]

I'm aiding them because there's no sense in doing otherwise.

There are three options here, Archer - if the team in blue wins, then I'll have aided in their victory; if the "foreigners" win against both teams, then I'll still have technically been on their side in defeating one of their opposing forces.

The only way this won't benefit me is if the team in red wins, which is highly unlikely due to the lack of type advantage while fighting a battle on two fronts.
sadisticwarfare: (♕ 09)

[personal profile] sadisticwarfare 2014-10-30 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
That is a good way of looking at it, isn't it? Do you know anything about this team?

[Considering the fact that Kimblee called them "the team in blue" he kind of doubts it.]
codeforhope: (● look into my eyes)

[personal profile] codeforhope 2014-10-30 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Well...you just trade. It is as simple as swapping pokeballs.

[He gets a little braver, moving to scratch under Horu's chin. The Garchomp lets out a chirp, pushing his head further into the door.]

So long as both trainers agree to it.
explosivecombat: (Go on and keep that up)

[personal profile] explosivecombat 2014-10-30 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
They're dressed like pirates, and when I was positioned closer to their leader he was shouting about how they were going to show everyone the power of the sea.

I don't think they're particularly difficult to figure out.
me_first: (armed and... dangerous?)

[personal profile] me_first 2014-10-30 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Should we... ah... do that?

[Abstract wants toooooo.]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-30 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Fwahahaha! So not only did those flames get put out, but now your Pokemon's giving you the cold shoulder.

[On some level, he realizes that's terrible, but on pretty much all other levels, it's hilarious.]

Now then, Air Slash!

[Why mess with a good strategy? These attacks seem to be working pretty well, so there's still no real reason to change things up.]
envy_the_sinners: (I don't think "nominal names" counts)

[personal profile] envy_the_sinners 2014-10-30 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
[In the chaos of the battle around him, Scar is able to make out... something rocketing through the water at an alarming speed.

Something he eventually discovers to be Cynthia hurtling through the water on the back of what he can only assume to be a Pokémon.]

She's going to get himself killed...

[Look, Cynthia, you've driven him to start talking to himself again.]

[Quick Attack connects, but getting up close and personal with Walrein might've been a mistake because...]

Walrein! Body Slam!

[Can a walrus slam a zebra? Apparently, everyone's going to find out soon.]
evilfrenzy: (♟ suck it julius)

[personal profile] evilfrenzy 2014-10-30 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Choosing the role of cheerleader today, Commander?

[Rideaux's holding a pack of healing supplies, like he's ready to head into the thick of battle fully prepared.

He really wouldn't be surprised if he turns out to be right. Commanders have a nasty habit of sitting back and letting others take the damage for them. At least the leaders of those ridiculous other gangs actually came to do battle today.]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-30 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
[He'll remember this, Kimblee. After he goes back to tells everyone there about all the ridiculous stuff that happened today, he'll mention that at least one person in Johto and Kanto had the sense to side with the winning team.

Now if you'll excuse him, he has trainers to crush and an enemy team to annihilate with his giant prehistoric murder whale.]
wing_attack: (serious)

[personal profile] wing_attack 2014-10-30 04:55 am (UTC)(link)
[It can! Volts stands proudly though, pawing the ground. Tobias considers his moves for a moment, before -]

Thunder Wave!

[Let's see you move that blubber when you're paralyzed.]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-30 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
[Let's recap. Today Archie has
-Reverted a legendary to its primal form and sent it to destroy his enemies.
-Had a battle that involved Sharpedo divebombing a Charizard out of the sky.
-Had a trainer attempt to brush his Mightyena's teeth with Signal Beam

And now we have this bizarre game of trying to tackle what is essentially an electrical turtle at the moment. That's a strong contender for the craziest thing that's happened today.]

Mightyena-

[Actually wait, he's going to jump out of the way because that Discharge is going everywhere.]

Jump back in there and use Crunch!

[Not the world's brightest idea, but let's just try and keep that thing from using Discharge again.]
sadisticwarfare: (♕ 04)

[personal profile] sadisticwarfare 2014-10-30 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
...Well, I was hoping it was something slightly more interesting than that.
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-30 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
[Well it's not like he knows he's being completely tactless, so he has no idea what's going on with all the cringing. For all he knows, they had a bad day at the local pool...or are part of Team Magma. That'd explain it.

Now then, let's see. There's nothing he can really do about Ice Fang. That hits Crobat pretty hard. Which isn't to say that Dragon Claw's not effective either. They're both pretty solid hits.

But like with Riku's Charizard earlier, it's probably not too bright to get too close to the pokemon that's covered in spikes and teeth.]

Sharpedo! Crunch! Crobat! Confuse Ray!

[That shark's going to attempt to chomp down on Nova, and then on the other side of things, Crobat's trying to confuse Gyarados.]

And you just don't understand. But don't worry, after we win, the whole world will be praising the name of Team Aqua!
explosivecombat: (Don't worry; it's nothing personal)

[personal profile] explosivecombat 2014-10-30 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
They're trying to kill everyone with a giant whale.

Insipid or not, you have to admit it's creative.
sadisticwarfare: (♕ 08)

[personal profile] sadisticwarfare 2014-10-30 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Creative" is an interesting way of putting it. Personally, I think it's embarrassing.
explosivecombat: (And what have we here?)

[personal profile] explosivecombat 2014-10-30 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Does it matter? The odds are greatly in their favor.
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-30 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Much to Archie's dismay, Walrein's taking a nap right about now. And then both it and Mightyena are getting smacked around by Iron Tail.]

You've got to be kidding me.

[He's not mad, just sort of annoyed by his awful luck right now. Two Mega Evolutions, negative status effects, the only way this could be worse is if one or both of these guys were Maxie.]

Mightyena, use Assurance on that Gengar! Walrein, wake up!

[Nope, it's still out. And he can't switch due to Gengar's Shadow Tag either. Great.]
