You know what's better than a regular birthday? The birthday of a circus.




Throughout the streets of Goldenrod, folks will find all sorts of colorful characters and Pokemon about. Fliers and the like have been regular eve since the Circus started up a year ago, but the advertising is in full force today just to make it EXTRA apparent that today is the day. Another hint is all the air traffic in the skies- various Flying-type Pokemon that make up the Circus' transportation service. Who knows? Maybe you're one of those using it today!

And of course, who can miss the colorful spectacle that is the circus itself? Past the entrance gate (which will let you onto the circus grounds for a miniscule fee) are dozens and dozens of stalls and little tents. Looming over them is the main tent itself, a monstrosity of bright welcoming colors. There are all sorts of things amongst their ranks, but it's generally fairly easy to find what you're looking for as Pidgey of a feather flock together and all that... From games of all sorts like the usual carnival games to more of a retro arcade, to a set of shops with local crafts and maybe something from the foreign trainers.... Of course, there's also all sorts of food stalls and even shacks for more filling stuff.

There's even a Litleo hunt going on today! Catch one, win a prize!

With all that alone, you could probably keep busy for most of the day! But surely you aren't forgetting the Big Act?

Yep, the big acts in the Big Top. Times are posted both at the front gate, on fliers you can pick up here and there, and by the entrance to the large tent. For each day, there will be three shows! Better hope you can snag a ticket before they get sold out... Although maybe you'll get lucky for the next show. Or the next day....

Either way, it promises to be a fun weekend!

You can barely see them, says John.

"... Yeah? That... makes me feel a little better."

Because as long as he doesn't concentrate on them seeing him, too...

"Pretend you're still training, says Ruskin," Snake suggests. It was a suggestion that had helped some of the newer members on their first time out in Noah's Arc. They usually didn't get out as much as the first-tier members, but when someone got sick or hurt then they would take over. Sometimes they would even have their own act if they had something that wasn't already being done.

He pauses, and nods a little bit. "Pretend they're not there? I can... well, I can at least try to do that."

You never know until you try, right? Nacho climbs on his lap and nudges him. Come on, don't be like this. You can do it, you idiot.

[silentscales]

Ruskin, one of Snake's sevipers, rubs her head reassuringly against Tobias's leg.

Snake nervously puts out his hand, like he expects Tobias to lash out and bite it like a snake might, "I'm Snake... says Gaskell."

[wing_attack]

Tobias looks down and smiles a little nervously at Ruskin. "Hey there."

He takes Snake's hand and shakes it gently. He understands being nervous. "I'm Tobias."

[silentscales]

Snake is nervous about most social encounters. He's been pushing himself to get better about it, though he still has a hard time not talking through his snakes.

"I'm Ruskin, says Ruskin." Ruskin puts her head on Tobias's lap, making sure her fangs are on the other side of his lap and not digging into his leg. She's pretty sure that wouldn't be comfortable.

He reaches down to give her a gentle pat. Snakes... aren't his favorite animals. They remind him of a few unpleasant things, but these aren't cobras at least.

"Hello Ruskin." Tobias looks back up at Snake, something dawning on him. "Do you... talk to snakes, back where you're from? Is that why you can understand what they're saying?" Or... well. 'Saying', close enough. Body language can tell a lot, as he knows.

Sometimes he's too quiet.

Snake nods in affirmation.

It's okay! \o/

Tobias nods a little bit, and he reaches over to scratch Nacho on the head. "I was a bird at home. Most of the time, anyway."

That gets Snake's attention. Without thinking he asks, "Really?" Normally he doesn't pry, but to hear of someone else who is so close to animals because they are -- at least partially -- one themselves was something completely new to him. He instantly feels like Tobias might understand him more than most.

[wing_attack]

"Yeah. I've spent the last two years as a red-tailed hawk most of the time. I can turn into other things, but that's my 'normal' form now. That's why I get along so well with birds here - I know what to look for in their body language."

Nacho lets out a grumbly squawk, and he grins a bit. "But some of them are just naturally grumpy."

[silentscales]

"I'm only part snake, but it is the same with me and snakes. I know them so well, I can understand them as if they were using words, says Gaskell." He doesn't usually offer too much about himself, but he can't believe he found someone else like him in a way. It isn't the same thing, but it is close enough for him.

[wing_attack]

"... Oh. I can't exactly speak the same language as them. My hawk instincts... if I make screeches it's more emotions than saying words. But I can figure things out most of the time. I like being a bird more than anything else. I'm more used to those instincts than something like a fish or a snake or a wolf."

It's... kind of nice that Snake seems to get the idea better than anyone else here has.

[silentscales]

Snake nods eagerly, "I am much more comfortable with snakes than any other animal, even humans, says Gaskell."

[wing_attack]

"I've always liked birds, even before I became one. I used to draw them in class instead of taking notes."

... Though usually in the classes where he didn't really need to take notes anyway, at least.

[silentscales]

"Class?" To him that meant what group of people you are in dependant on monetary and social wealth.

[wing_attack]

"Uh... lessons?" Maybe that works better for him.

[silentscales]

"Oh." Yes, that made much more sense. He's never had them himself, but he's heard of them. "What did you learn, asks John?"

[wing_attack]

"A lot of things. English, geography, math, and science were the four big ones. But there were art classes and gym classes and things like that."

[silentscales]

Snake keeps nodding. So that's what people learn normally. But he's wondering if they practised anything practical there. "What about life skills, says Gaskell?"

[wing_attack]

"... Uh... well... we had cooking classes... but that was only the basics. I know how to cook simple things since I usually was responsible for feeding myself when I got home." It's not like his uncle was going to do more than he was required to for him, and his aunt never really made him anything that was really tasty either.

[silentscales]

"That's good. It is good to know how to cook for yourself, says Ruskin."

Snake nods. He didn't learn any cooking until he got to Noah's Arc and even then he is far from the most popular cook there. Usually he helps prepare the food instead.

"I'm not very good at it, says Gaskell."

[wing_attack]

"I'm not very good at it either. I can make stuff like pasta and sandwiches and stuff like that. But I can show you what I know if you want."

He's not sure how good at it he'll be, but he can at least try.

Snake nods at this. He didn't mind learning more about cooking, and it was always nice to spend time around like-minded people. He got the feeling that, with time, Tobias could be a friend to him like Joker is.
