It would be so fine to see your face at my door [Closed]
Who: Neku Sakuraba And Nagi Naoe
Where: Goldenrod
When: Backdated to March 19th, after the circus
Summary: After beating Whitney (finally) Neku texts his victory to his...friend? And a long put off battle is thrown down
Rating: PG-13
Log:
[Neku was on Cloud Nine. He knew his dislike of Whitney was silly, but he still felt pretty great about finally beating her. So after sending his victory text to Nagi he headed to a nearby coffee shop, sipping something cold and frothy, his Lucario (who had carried the fight) nibbling a poffin and a caffeine free cocoa frappe.
He had already healed his team, and everyone was resting now. Soon they would find a place to stay and hang around Johto until the fashion show... then back to Kanto to continue his badge quest. But for now he was happy relaxing]

Sorry Lemon. But you did it...
Thunder.
[Washing way smoke was very nice. But even with it still there it didn't matter. As long as the rain fell the normally almost useless electric move had one benefit.
100% accuracy.
no subject
Shuriken is rocked by the attack, his entire body convulsing as it momentarily sends him to one knee. It's a horrible thing, with the water acting as a nice conductor for the electricity. Not to mention the fact that the two are exactly matched as far as levels go. It hurts.
..and not only does it hurt, but Shuriken twitches, letting out a shuddering noise of frustration that causes Nagi to curse under his breath. Not only did that cut down a fourth or more of his health, but he's paralyzed.]
no subject
or would have, if the moment he raised his tendrils for a swing he didn't wail and flop backwards.
Seems that Thunder was all he had left in him. And Neku sighs]
Okay, come on back.
[1/1]
no subject
His expression isn't stony or unreadable now. The anger is very clear, and what he says next causes Shuriken to look over sharply with surprise.]
Switch your Pokemon. Don't use Bell.
[He's already reaching for Shuriken's Pokeball with stiff hands. It wasn't a request.]
no subject
Nagi...
[He hovers a hand over the last ball he had chosen... but stops, and instead turns to Sota]
Go.
[The jackal pokemon blinks. Blueberry was higher leveled... but he nods, putting the drinks down and stepping out, falling into a fighting stance]
no subject
A fighting type. A clear weakness against nearly half of his current roster. He might as well be throwing the match.
Why?]
...are you sure?
[His voice is flat, almost difficult to parse as an actual question.]
no subject
He's half Steel. You really gotta learn your... your new types man. Steel resists Psychic so he breaks even.
[But his fighting moves wouldn't be very helpful against most of Nagi's team regardless]
no subject
Nagi shifts as he pulls his last Pokeball from his belt, rolling it over in his hands before actually tossing it out.
In front of him hovers a Lunatone, blue eyes glowing gently. She seems to give off a constant soft hum but otherwise is mostly silent. It's still raining, but she doesn't seem very bothered by it.]
Go on, then.
no subject
He had no chance.
Sota bows lightly to the other pokemon, his aura slightly distressed, but steady]
This is a bad fight, but I'll do my best
[It's clear in his 'tone' he doesn't mean the difference in levels. But the bad air all around them right now. But he was a loyal warrior. He would fight regardless.]
Powerup Punch!
[Fighting was strong against Rock- but the level difference wouldn't make that advantage much... unless he could power up Sota's attack fast]
no subject
The attack strikes the rock-type solidly, but she barely budges an inch. In fact she hardly moves at all, the rock unyielding as Sota's fist punches into her.]
Cosmic Power.
[She hums in response to Nagi's command, body vibrating beneath Sota's paw as a glow envelops her. The move is a status changer, raising both defense and special defense.
Throughout it all she still remains motionless where Nagi released her, even though the attack did do damage initially.]
no subject
Use Calm Mind!
[Sota stepped back, meditating to bring up his Special Defense and Special Attack in preparation for whatever Nagi had in mind]
no subject
Psychic!
[She turns to face Sota, eyes glowing abnormally bright before he'll feel a sudden tugging on his body as its lifted right off the ground, starting to rise several feet and climbing fast.]
no subject
Sota goes up and up, yelping in surprise. Neku watches helplessly, knowing this is going to hurt, a lot
Sota... I'm sorry. Please hold on for just a little while]
no subject
Higher.
[So she complies, lifting him until he's at least ten feet above the ground. But for a Pokemon unable to make expressions, it's clear that she's straining as she looks up at Sota, almost apologetic in her gaze. She rotates him slowly until he's facing the road. Nagi's thoughts are as sharp as a razor's edge.
Throw him down as hard as you can
All of a sudden Sota's body lurches as he starts to rocket down to the asphalt at a terrifying speed, and for a split second it looks as if the Lunatone intends to drive him headfirst into the unyielding ground. But he never connects.
He stops with his muzzle just inches shy of the ground, and from there Kodokuna abruptly lets go.]
no subject
Because watching his constant companion be lifted up and up like that causes something to drop like a stone in Neku's belly. He knew, KNEW, that pokemon didn't die in battles. Just got knocked out. But all he could remember is Sota's namesake. Not just the literal person, but the meaning behind it.
Logic flies out the window, and when his pokemon drops, Neku moves, slamming into the smaller jackal pokemon just as he slowed to a stop. He never would have made it in time otherwise, but if he noticed what the opposing pokemon did, he wasn't showing it, instead landing at Nagi's feet, body curled around the panicking pokemon]
I forfeit, I forfeit damn it!!
no subject
He stood motionless, his wet hair masking his eyes as Kodokuna hovered close to Sota's side, silently asking if he was okay.]
No you don't.
[Nagi finally spits, though his voice doesn't sound like his own at the moment. He's just talking off the top of his head while his mind is elsewhere, trying to parse what just happened.]
no subject
[He stands, Sota in his arms. The pokemon looks at Kodokuna, thanking her softly- the humans utterly ignoring the two pokemon, because the moment he's sure Sota is okay Neku grabs his pokeball and calls him away. A rare event.]
What the hell was that?!
no subject
...he would have been fine. You know that.
[Meanwhile, the Lunatone doesn't return to her trainer's side. She hovers anxiously next to Neku. She knew this boy's every thought and had been afraid something like this would happen again.]
no subject
You scared the CRAP outta me just now, you know that?!
[It's raining still, though it's starting to fade finally now that the battle is over... no longer hiding Neku's half panicked tears.]
no subject
[He suddenly barks back, prompting the Lunatone to get closer to the redhead's side.]
You're fighting gyms at such a low level you'd obviously get them quickly! I've been training for two months for ONE gym! Why do you think I went into Mt. Mortar, for my health!?
[Nagi's seething at this point because what he's angry about is...petty. It's petty and childish to be so caught up in wanting to beat Neku for some reason, wanting so badly to see him squirm and fight back. Pushing all the buttons just to see what sort of response he'll get.
...
A new toy, huh.]
...I wanted you to fight me at your strongest. Sota isn't your strongest, is he?
no subject
[He looks like Nagi just slapped him. Had... he been reading his texts that way the whole time? Sure he was bragging but never to rile Nagi up. Not seriously.
Neku trembles with rage and hurt. He did see Nagi as a rival, yes. But he was his friend first.
Or... well at least he thought. He can't think of how to respond at first- no, Sota wasn't his strongest, but that didn't matter]
What the hell does it matter?! You know what-
[He yanks his jacket off, flipping it half inside out and exposing where he was pinning his badges on the inside. And one by one (tearing the fabric a few times due to how hard his hands were fumbling) he takes them off
and chucks all seven of them on the ground before jabbing his arms back in the garment.]
Screw it. And screw you too. I TRIED damn it, but I'm done.
[And with that he turns and starts stalking away]
no subject
[He shouts after him, but he doesn't follow. The badges littering the road just baffle Nagi more than anything else; after all that, really?
But after that he suddenly decides that he, too, has had enough and he turns to leave.
Kodokuna doesn't follow. She stays back, caught between the two with the badges on the ground beneath her. Unsure of what else to do she rushes past Neku, stopping in front of him to try and block his path.
Please...dont leave like this]
no subject
Why the hell shouldn't I?! I've... I've tried to be his friend. I really did. Damn it...
[He rubs frantically at his face, laughing bitterly]
Shit... now I know why everyone back home left before the Game. This is bull. I'm... I'm not a good enough person to deal with this anymore.
[He reaches into his belt, tossing it out and summoning his rather confused looking Dragonite: obviously intending to Fly out of there]
no subject
His words cause the Lunatone to falter as she hovers between Neku and his Dragonite, torn. She lets out a plaintive noise.
No. You...you're right. You shouldn't have to stay.
She can see Nagi walking off over his shoulder, already starting to disappear down the street.
But you're one of the only friends he has.]
no subject
Fuck Nagi. He shouldn't have to deal with this.
"It's only by letting others in..."
He curses even more at Joshua in his head. Damn it...
Finally he snaps, charging after the other boy and grabbing a shoulder, wheeling him around. Though after that he really didn't have a plan]
