[Ralph doesn't answer. He reaches up to his shoulder, grabs ahold of Bossy, and bowls her toward the battle scene-to-be.]
Bossy, use Magnitude!
[The Sandshrew unfurls in time to greet the Growlithe with a facefull of claws.]
Or Scratch! Scratch is good too! We're goin' with Scratch? Alright then.
[Ah, the relationship between trainer and 'mon. Poetry in motion.]

[ He can't blame them. Maybe some of them needed to breathe, some of them needed some time away. But it's really good to hear that everything's falling back into place.
So back to the matter at hand since Eric's here now anyway. ]
Yeah. Bandou says we hafta go around and challenge gyms.
[ Hey, it keeps them busy. ]

[The Space Cadet blinks as the other Ralph rolls his Pokemon towards the other, not sure of what's going on. He's going to stay out of the way and just observe the battle.]
[The Growlithe yelps as Bossy scratches up its face, then it returns the attack with an Ember. The flames burst out of its mouth and towards the Ground-type Pokemon, though, they're not terribly strong, seems like it's on the lower end of the level spread.]

[Bossy shakes off the Ember and beams at the Growlithe, bloodlust shining in her horrible little black eyes. FINALLY a battle! Trainer never picked her! Ever!]
Bossy, Magnitude this time! Please and thankyou!
[Her ears twitch and the Sandshrew leaps into the air, curls into a ball and drills into the very Earth they stand on. A crack rushes toward the fire pup. Magnitude 6!]

[Growlithe falters a little when it sees the look Bossy gives it, it's not terribly experienced, this is probably one of the first few battles its had against a trainer.
It's going to try its best, though.
The Growlithe stares at the crack in the ground, making a confused noise as it watches it grow towards it. It's too late when it realizes that it should probably dodge, the quake knocks it off its feet with a yelp.]

Watch carefully!
[With the little fire dog knocked for a loop and hurting, Ralph takes a Pokeball, expands it, and hurls it onto the battle field.]
The trick is, to catch one, you have to defeat it. Then it fights for you because it's all some kind of weird game to them.

[Ralph glances away from the fight and to his counterpart, nods, and then looks back to the pair of Pokemon. If it was important for him to watch, then he wasn't planning on missing a thing.
That doesn't mean that he won't talk about it while watching, though.]
Huh...so, you gotta show it who's boss before it'll join you?
[The Pokeball impacts the Growlithe, encapsuling the Pokemon in a burst of light.
It's young, inexperienced, and hurt, so it doesn't put up much of a struggle. The ball shakes just a few times before growing still and indicating that Growlithe has been captured.]

[Ralph strolls toward the ball and stoops down to snatch it up. Bossy instantly attacks his arm because she wants the fire dog to come OUT so she can whup on it some more. Ralph lets out a garbled cry and swings his arm around as Bossy assaults him with a Poison Sting. WHY WAS IT ALWAYS WITH THE POISON STING???]
[Biting back tears, he approaches the space man and holds out the little white and red ball.]
All yours, pal. You'll have ta do a lotta guesswork though without a Poke'Gear. Can't help you there.

[Ralph winces as he friend is attacked by his own Pokemon.]
Hey! Are you okay?
[He carefully takes the Pokeball from him, inspecting it as he talks.]
Thanks, I appreciate it. Maybe somebody 'round here's got an extra or somethin'.
'Bout the puppy, though, since you caught it, doesn't that mean it'll only listen to you?
[From the other Ralph's description of things, he had made the assumption that whoever defeated a Pokemon was the person that had control over it.]

[Ralph just gives his double a slow, long-suffering blink. Does it look like the one he's got listens to him?]
Don't worry about it. 'Sides, a few of mine were gifts too.

[Ralph nods in understanding.]
Oh. So, they can just be given to people without any problems?
Also, uh, how do I get it out of the ball?
[He's investigating it and he looks like he might almost attempt to shake the Pokeball in order to get the Growlithe to come out.]

[He leans in to point to the button in the center.]
That right there. Hold it down once to make the ball smaller. Hit it again to expand it. To get 'em to come out, just throw it and call for 'em. Sometimes they just pop out on their own.

[Ralph pays close attention to the instructions.]
Okay, so the button changes its size and you toss the ball to get 'em to come out, got it.
[He's about to throw the Pokeball when another thought occurs to him. He pauses.]
Er, once they're out, how do I put 'em back in? Do I throw the ball at 'em again?

All you gotta do is call 'em. If they like you, they'll do what you say no sweat. Dont let 'em fool you though. They aren't just animals. They're scary smart. I gotta put something on this sting before my hand swells up .
[He turns from the battlefield to dejectedly tromp back toward civilization. Bossy remains behind and stares up at Space Cadet. He's such a mystery to her. And she really wants to beat the crap out of that poor Growlithe pup again.]

[Ralph nods.]
Sounds simple enough, wonder if this one likes me...
[He winces.]
Good luck, I'll be right 'round here.
[Ralph looks down at Bossy, he doesn't realize that she's got it out for his new Pokemon and he wants to get to learn it better.
So, he chucks the ball a few feet away.]
How's it supposed to go? Come on out, dog-thing?
[The act of throwing the Pokeball was enough to summon the Growlithe, despite the awkward phrase that came with it.
It pops out and shakes itself, still feeling a little rough from its battle.
Ralph watches it, not really sure what to do next.]
