[Suddenly Aggro is Blake's middle name.
He sees that signal that says STEP OFF, and steps closer to get in the bastard's face.]
It damn well is my business. You just walked onto my turf.

[The stranger Jake's approaching does at least look like he belongs here - he's got long, easily-tangled green hair and way too many accessories and the obligatory hat perched on his head, because what is a young trainer without a hat nowadays. Perhaps more to the point, he looks like he knows what he's doing; admittedly he doesn't, because his travels have taken him many places in this world but this is a new one, and he's not exactly accustomed to the sheer amount of everything at once that's happening, and it's new and overwhelming and so when Jake approaches he's crouching down in the grass talking in a low voice to a bunch of Purrloins like they're going to answer him.
(And maybe they are, because this world is sort of like that, but if they're replying it's in the usual murrs and mewing and rolling around that cats do rather than proper speech, so at least some things haven't completely failed to make sense.)
Either way, the guy stands up when he's addressed (because that's the proper thing to do when people address you, yes, you apologize to your friends and you stand up and you look at the person talking to you) and he tips his head a little at the question, and he's smiling a bit but the expression is a little vague and he's staring at Jake's face a little too openly - not like he's trying to figure something out, but more along the lines of a little kid who hasn't learned yet that doing that is really kind of rude. For a moment he doesn't seem to know how to answer (there's an answer he wants to give, a brisk snap judgment of a thing, but at least he seems to have figured out that doing that would be rude and so he doesn't) but after a while he seems to figure that it'd be worth a shot to try something.]
They'll probably befriend you if you ask.
[...That's really not answering the question and the words come out in a rush, like the fate of the world depends on him getting everything he says out in one breath with no hesitation whatsoever, but still.]
The Pokémon here seem very much used to foreigners. They're kind.
[Look at all this tolerance. He's trying so hard.]

I'm great, now that you're here!
[He wastes no time throwing his arms around his friend to give him a hug, Leader's tail wagging at the sight of seeing his trainer so excited.]
I was hoping I'd get to see you again! Did Heloise come with you?

[...What?]
This would be a fox...
[A very strange fox, granted, but it's not like Kafei hasn't seen stranger. He's never even heard of a pokingmon, why would he have one? Why would he want one, it sounds uncomfortable.]

[You sweet summer child.]
It is a fox. It is also a Pokemon. A Fennekin, to be exact. Kodokuna is a Pokemon, too.
[She looks back at Kafei, giving another soft little noise. She's not murder mcdeathmoon, honest.]
It is unwise to try to travel here without one.

[Yeah, no, you can get your death moon out of here. There is no way he's trusting that thing. Kafei can't even bring himself to look at it.]
I have no intention to travel for very long.
[He's yet to have any problems, really. The only problem so far has been Fennekin.]

[Luckily for Peridot, Lapis lets her stand. It's not like she as anything to worry about, surrounded by her element as she is.]
Oh, please. This isn't about being heroic. [The watery clone of Lapis's head zooms in close, large enough to tower over Peridot.] This is me showing I'm not afraid of you anymore!

...Hn.
[where is his grandpa or Polnareff at a time like this, why can't he pass this jackass off onto them]
So why don't you go defend it somewhere else, old man.

[...wow okay this conversation isn't going the way he had anticipated at all.]
...I see. If it is all the same, it would be no offense to me if I didn't have to stay here.
[Especially not when she's here, even though it's nicer than what's going on back home. Neither scenario is very appealing all of a sudden, but it seems like he doesn't have a choice either way.]

[Well, the tendency to stare and sort of...awkward all over a social interaction certainly isn't lost on Jake — he's spent too much time around Ax in a human morph to not instantly pick up on that kind of thing — but the equally good news is that the person in question is just awkward enough that all signs point against him potentially being a Controller. The last thing a Yeerk would want is to draw attention by missing social cues, and this guy is all but a neon sign of them.
(Not that you can ever be sure, obviously, but it's probably fine. And he's trying to remember how to be a normal kid himself at the moment, too.)
But there's something about the way the guy is interacting with the cats that rings familiar, too, and it takes him a minute before he realizes: he's seen this tendency before, too, in the form of Erek the Chee when presented with a dog. The Chee had loved their Pemalite masters; it seems like there's a similar sort of affection present here.
And that's sort of reassuring.]
That still leaves me with the problem of finding one, but that's good to know, thanks. You're...from around here, I guess?

[duly noting the confusion, Ash, who is already fired up, manages:]
Well, there's a Single Battle and a Double Battle. Also the amount of Pokemon each trainer's gotta use, so nobody cheats. [important things to know!]

Oh - yes and no, I'm not from this particular region but this world itself is the one I've always belonged to. Is it yours as well...? My friends have told me about the ones that have been brought here from elsewhere.
[Or maybe you're from somewhere near Unova? You sound like you might be, but that isn't anything he's going to voice; Unova isn't something he's inclined to bring up right away, not after his father generally...did the thing all over the region, not when he's unsure of whether this person deserves an explanation or an apology.]

[Hans scoffs, a biting sound in the back of his throat.]
I'll be sure to get right on that, then.
I'll be sure to get right on that, then.
I...guess you could say it's a little of both. I'm not from around here, but I'm...familiar with some of it.
[Ah, the good old days when he had one cartridge and Marco had the other and many long summer afternoons were spent grinding and capturing to help fill out each other's Pokedexes...

[It's tempting to say "cats", but it's possible a native won't know what the hell a "cat" is, so he opts to just gesture and hope for the best.]

[Because the world doesn't love you that much.]
Cause nobody invited you.
I'm the President here and I'm the law, so you better show some goddamn respect.

...I'm not here to cause trouble, you know.
[He says after some time, his expression shifting just a bit.]
I don't like this any more than you do, but if you stay out of my way, I'll stay out of yours.

[And that gets him to glance behind him like he's verifying that they're still there; they are, and more importantly that's good enough of an indication that this guy's from nowhere near Unova, because he has lots of friends like this back there and they'd be easily recognized.
He relaxes at that, kind of a lot.]
Them too.
[...Right, acknowledge the person you're talking to again. Smile. Friends are good, and humans can likewise be friends if you let them and try really hard to not act like an abomination or a monster.]
The species name is Purrloin, by the way - they aren't the only friends I have, they're just the most recent, and they remind me of some I know back home.

[It's a really good thing he's not a different Jojo, or "the President" would have him bristling even more than he already is.]
...So you're the one responsible for all this, huh.
[SO THIS IS THE ENEMY STAND USER]
