Book Clubbin' --Chapter 1
Who: Maka + all people that are interested in the book club!
Where: Olivine City at her house
When: Somewhere in the vicinity of early June
Summary: Maka has decided to form a book club and sent out messages about it over the network. Though, even if nobody got those messages, her Alakazam is visiting cities all over setting up flyers and offering transport via teleportation to Olivine. Hopefully the first meeting won't go too terribly.
Rating: Maybe PG-13 at the most? Solely for language of some characters, probably.
Log:
[If Maka Albarn was anything in life, it was prepared; the house was cleaned top to bottom, snacks and drinks prepared, and her favorite books found in Johto taken down from the shelves of her library.
This is weird, this is new, she's actually holding a club meeting for people that are interested in books. People said they were interested in talking about books. The nerd glee might be too much.
Well, all that's left now is to wait while Flash makes his rounds. Twilight already said she'd be arriving earlier, so Maka's expecting her, the rest of the people…who knows who might show up and when.]

It's not that. What Okumura-san said...you obviously didn't want that sort of thing just...given out as general information. But...it's not like you've been lying to me, or anything.
[Is it lying if you just neglect to tell someone something about yourself? If that's the case, then he's lied to everyone he's met here that isn't from home.]
Just because you're a soldier doesn't mean you have given me a reason to be afraid of you.
no subject
It really shouldn't.]
Ah.
[Get a hold of yourself.]
...Rin kept skirting around the topic, but he was talking like I was the one that had to be careful around you. Uh...do you mind if I ask why?
no subject
Uuuuuuh.]
This is going to sound...really strange, but...
[...]
He thinks I'm a street performer.
[This has to be the fastest a moment has been ruined ever, he thinks.]

...Then the album starts slipping from her hands and she has to snap herself out of the trance to catch it.]
no subject
Then she starts giggling--yes, giggling, Maka Albarn is giggling.]
S-so, what, he thinks you'd treat me like some kinda groupie? Ahaha--what the heck? I mean, no offense, Kaneki, but you're not exactly the frontman of Mystery Skulls.
no subject
No, I...I know. It's...kindof a long story. More of a big misunderstanding, really...
...but yeah, that's why he got defensive when he found out you were my friend, I guess.
no subject
[She still says that fondly, so yes that is apparently how she talks about her friends.
Maka's giggling quiets down after this, however, and she pauses--as if thinking about something.]
...You know, I was really worried. I thought this was the final warning that I'm not allowed to have good, normal friends.
no subject
[He seems surprised by that, and it gets him to finally turn his gaze up toward Maka directly.]
Why wouldn't you be allowed to have friends?
[Good and normal aren't words he'd attach to himself at all, but he doesn't make a point of saying that for obvious reasons.]
no subject
[Now she actually opens up the album, flipping through it until she finds what she's looking for. She turns it so Kaneki can see that there's only a single photo on this page.]
These are my friends from back home, I haven't seen them in over two years now. They're all...just like me, we went to the same academy and trained to fight the same bad guys. It's normal in our world. [Though even if she says that, only the blue-haired boy and herself show any evidence of scars, the rest of the people look relatively untouched.] So we'd talk about it like it's just a regular part of our day, right? But...whenever I talked about it here, people would say that it's wrong or horrible that I have these kinds of experiences, that it's immoral to train children to fight.
[She shuts the album and shrugs.]
I don't usually let what other people say bother me, I'd have given up a long time ago if I did, but...I dunno, being away from home for so long and being treated like I'm...
[Abnormal, damaged, dangerous...]
Not to say I haven't made friends, I just can't speak to very many of them honestly about my life before, or about much of anything that I'm interested in. I'm just different by nature from other people my age.
no subject
Everyone's experiences are different. We all come from different worlds, or different versions of similar worlds. It wouldn't be right to judge somebody based on what we think is normal where we're from, but...isn't somewhere else. It's a matter of circumstance, I guess.
[He's not scared of Maka because...he feels like she would have far more reason to be scared of him, if she knew. There's a reason he always fought so hard to keep it from Hide. He was recovering from surgery, or "sick", that's why he missed so much school.
The thought terrifies him.]
I...I guess what I'm trying to say is that I understand why you would feel that way. But I try not to let that sort of thing color my opinion of someone. Like that old cliche..."you can't judge a book by its cover".
1/2
Or very stupid.
Actually, probably both--they often go hand in hand.]
no subject
I see...err...is that all you wanted to talk about?
no subject
Yeah. I mean...I just wanted you to know that I don't care if you're a soldier back home or anything like that.
And...that I still want to be your friend.
no subject
[She stands from her seat, album tucked under her arm and hand outstretched to him.]
Let's go back in, huh? We started this club, it wouldn't be fun if we didn't go through with it.
no subject
Yeah...okay.
...I uh...I wanted to show you something, anyway. I got The Black Goat's Egg at the beginning of the month, so...I brought it with me.
no subject
[Apparently that takes priority. There's a pause before Maka loosens her grip on her friend's hand and nods, as if deciding on something.]
Also, before we go back in, I wanna give you a hug. Don't freak out, okay?
no subject
[That's probably the first time someone's warned him they were going to go in for a hug...]
Um...sure. I won't.
no subject
[Look, she...she feels like she has to warn him, okay. Even if it's a light hug and there's nothing but friendship intent in it, he's the type to have a heart attack if someone did that without warning.]
Okay, now we can go. [There's books and tea waiting, anyway.]
no subject
That actually ended up going a lot better than he thought it would.]
Alright. Lead the way.
