Alright, kid, here it comes!

_{[They are in the hedge maze outside the haunted house. The garden has grown all kinds of unruly over the past year in the Pumpkin King's absence and today they are on lawn duty. Ralph hefts a bundle of branches Jimmy's way so that he can toss them in the wheelbarrow.]}

We'll have this place ship shaped in no time. I'm still waitin' on this big scare of yours.

[Jimmy lifts his arms just in time to catch the bundle before it can slip out of his grasp, adjusting his grip on them before throwing the sticks into a slightly-rusty wheelbarrow nearby.]

It's coming, don't you worry! I just gotta make sure it's perfect, yaknow? And we still got a couple weeks till Halloween, so there's plenty of time left!

I'm shakin' in my boots.

_{[Ralph, you don't even wear shoes.]}

...What's that?

_{[His boasting is cut short by a strange shuffling, snuffling sound a few walls away in the maze.]}

Is anybody else on duty today?

Huh?

[Jimmy turns from where he'd been brushing dirt off his hands onto his jeans, looking up at Ralph with a frown.]

Nnnoo...it should just be me and you right now. I think...

Why, what is it?

Huh...

_{[Ralph frowns thoughtfully and peers over the wall. Jimmy was right about the maze not really being any fun for him. But he does't see the tops of any other heads or even any gardening tools.]}

Maybe someone's practicing. What Pokemon are supposed to be part of the maze again?

Uuum...gosh, lots of 'em! A lot of Jack's Pokemon from the Mansion, though I got some of mine to hide in the hedges to scare people as they walked by...

[Jimmy looks over in the direction Ralph is looking, reaching up to rub the back of his neck.]

My guys are kindof out all the time when I'm around, so maybe it's one of them?

Could be.

_{[There is a strange, fluttering growl.]}

Yeah, you're probably right.

_{[BUT LO! THE SHRUBS BEGIN TO SHAKE AND OUT LEAPS SOMETHING THAT IS ALMOST CERTAINLY NOT GOGURT. OR ANY OTHER KIND OF PROCESSED SNACKFOOD. The pink striped abomination crouches in the path, cutting them off from the exit route. It's tiny wings flutter and its long ears twitch.]

[For a moment Ralph only stares. Could...this be Jimmy's idea? Was this the big scare?]}

[...UUUHH.

Jimmy had assumed those strange sounds were coming from Gogurt, but...well, now he really isn't so sure. The look Jimmy's expression has taken on is enough to confirm that he has absolutely no idea what's going on, much less what that...is. Did Envy decide to dress Cherry or Gogurt up in some sort of costume and just not tell him about it?

So, like any smart individual when in the face of the unknown, Jimmy shares a quick glance with Ralph before taking a tiny step forward.]

Uuuuh...Gogurt? Is that you...?

[IT'S...NOT...But what else could it be otherwise?]

_{[Ralph's eyes flick rapidly between Jimmy and Not Gogurt.]}

Hh...heh. Great. Alright, kid, y'got me.

_{[Not Gogurt advances, hissing and drooling.]}

Okaaaay, time to call 'em off!

I...I can't!

[Jimmy's voice starts to thin a little with his rising panic as he shakes his head quickly.]

That's not Gogurt!

[And scarcely do the words leave Jimmy's mouth before the creature is suddenly leaping at him, though Jimmy manages to throw up an arm to protect his face before their combined body weight sends him falling back into the dirt with a sharp cry of surprise.

He lifts a foot to try and kick it off, but with its jaws locked and fangs securely biting into his arm through the thin jacket he wears, he can't find the purchase to actually do so.]

RALPH, help me!

_{[Things get real ugly real fast. It all happens before Ralph can act. Jimmy's down in a cloud of horrible pink fur and leaves. Rage lights up in him like a fire and he whips around, a huge hand reaching for the thing's scruff.]}

GET OUTTA HERE YOU COTTONCANDY NIGHTMARE!

[Ralph is more than strong enough to easily pull it off Jimmy, resulting in the thing taking a strip of his jacket with it between its teeth. But now it's really and properly enraged, turning its aggression to Ralph as it attempts to bite at his hand to get him to let go. Jimmy scrabbles back in the meantime, holding his arm close to his side while he stares up at the mutation in horror.]

W-what is that thing!?

[Any other time he might have found it adorable, since it reminds him a little of Cerbee in appearance...but not when it's sunk its teeth into him. And here, those kinds of bites aren't so easy to just brush off.]

_{[Ralph lets out a roar when the thing turns on him and eats up his knuckles. He does the only thing he can think to do and that's spin in circles a couple of things and hurl the abomination clear across the labyrinth. Hot blood drips between his fingers and he huffs and puffs from all the chaos.]}

Kid! Kid, are you alright?

[Jimmy winces when he sees Ralph's bloody hand, his grip tightening a little on his arm.]

I'm okay, I'm okay, I think so...

[He answers a little too quickly, shakily standing to his feet. He can feel heat under his fingers that makes him scared to pull his hand away, but even without looking he can see a dark spot out of the corner of his eye that's starting to grow beneath his torn sleeve.]

W-what about you?

_{[Ralph tries to keep a straight face. He has Bossy after all and after being hit with Poison Sting enough times, you learn to shrug a lot of things off...or maybe he just lost the sensitivity in his ankles. Either way, the Clefurret bite stings worse than any attack he's had land on him before. His mouth wobbles as he shakes his hand as if that would some how sling out the pain.]}

Little monster got me good. Sega Dreamcast. Thing came outta nowhere. I didn't think the maze was that overgrown...we should get that looked at.

_{[He tipped his head toward Jimmy's injury. He could see that dark spot clear as day. He's just glad the thing didn't make off with a finger.]}

[It's that comment that finally gets him to lift his hand away so he can see the extent of his own injury. He can't completely tell how deep it is without taking his jacket off, but it's deep enough to bleed a fair amount. Whatever that thing was, it was not happy.]

Yeah...yeah, you're right. ...but what about the other Pokemon around here? Or...what if someone else comes this way? Do you think they'll be okay?

[He knows that if Leader was out right now, his partner wouldn't have let this happen. He only returned him for just a minute to let him rest after working nonstop for so long...but Jimmy knows the Manectric is going to feel like the incident is partially his own fault for not being there to stop it.]

I think they'll be okay. Most of them can shoot lasers out of their faces. You and I? We're more...Normal Types.

_{[Ralph's only half right. He waves for the boy to follow him with his un-injured hand. He ducks through the haunted house door and heads for the kitchen. First thing's first, they've got to wash these bites off.]}

[That makes Jimmy feel a little better, at least, though he does stay close to Ralph's side as they make their way into the building. At least inside they'll be safe from...whatever that was.]

I think I'm gonna tell the Network anyway. Just so people will know something weird is out there, yaknow?

[He wants to call Molly, too, just to make sure she knows...but he can do that later.]

Good idea. I don't even know if it's just a new type of Pokemon...remember when the Bloobers appeared? they were everywhere. But I haven't heard anything about a...a pink whatsit at all.

Yeah, no kidding...

[Jimmy sighs, keeping his hand tight on his arm as he joins Ralph near the sink.]

I dunno, maybe that was just some weird...thing. Weird stuff's showin' up all the time, so I guess it'll just go away after a while.

Let's hope so.

_{[Once he has his bite scrubbed down, he moves aside to let Jimmy have a turn. Meanwhile, he inspects the bite itself.]}

Whatever it was had a lot and I mean a lot of teeth.

There are a lotta Pokemon who have lots of sharp teeth, aren't there? Though...they aren't usually pink.

[Trying to imagine a Jigglypuff with fangs is a bit difficult.]

_{[Ralph frowns thoughtfully at the window while he waits for Jimmy to finish up.]}

Let's get a move on. The sooner we can get patched up, the sooner we can get back to work.

[Jimmy nods quickly, tying his jacket around his waist for the time being after having taken it off to clean his arm.]
