Frisk | Undertale | CHANCE OF SPOILERS UP IN HURR
[Frisk has gotten very used to the sight of monsters wandering around, but none that looked quite like these. And the humans didn't seem to be at all worried! ...well, for the most part. There's a lot of crazy stuff going on right now (they're pretty sure they saw a magical girl run past just now), but it's still almost like they expected some part of this.]
[For their part Frisk has been wandering around and checking everything out, stumbling across a few 'shortcuts' and hopping between cities. It's exciting and crazy and new, and after the repeating slog they've been through for so long, it's a breath of fresh air. But not everything is unfamiliar...]
...hmmm...
[To most people the little nine-year-old is just staring at thin air, arms crossed and with a thoughtful expression, but some might see a floating yellow star in the air in front of them, hovering and rotating ever so innocently. When someone comes close they tear their attention away from it and give the stranger a beaming smile.]
Oh, hi there!
no subject
[It's hard to see where Dave's attention is aimed, what with his shades and all, but his face moves slightly as he shifts his gaze between Frisk and the odd yellow star. Everyone else is seeing this, right? It's not just him?
The Ralts beside him holds onto his pant leg, head tilted, but nods to answer Dave's unasked question. Yes, he sees it, too. Dave hesitates a moment longer, then dips his head towards the, you know. Shiny. Thing.]
Is that a new Pokémon or something?
no subject
Nuh-uh. I know what it is, and it isn't a Poke-mon. You never used a SAVE before?
[Frisk never met another human that could see the SAVE points before--there were some that remembered, but never anyone else that could use them.]
no subject
[Dave shifts and puts his hands in his pockets, back on familiar turf all of the sudden.]
Come to think of it, I haven't seen anything like that around here. My place didn't have those, so I guess I assumed other video game worlds wouldn't, either? Like they were just game constructs or something and didn't exist in real life.
no subject
But...it is real life. [Frisk looks around with a frown, then back up to Dave. They might be pretty meta, but they haven't reached Time player levels of it yet.] S' just the name they got.
no subject
Huh, okay, maybe the fourth wall's not as much of an utter travesty where you're from, then. That's cool.
[He comes closer to peer at the SAVE, though he doesn't touch it yet.]
So how does it work? Do you talk to it or what?
no subject
Naw, it doesn't talk. You just touch it and then...um.
[They pause, confused. How the heck do you even explain FILEs? Frisk never had to put it into words before.]
It, um. It happens.
no subject
Meeting new friends who share some of your experiences...it fills you with determination.
Dave steps back and looks at his hand, then pockets it again and stares at the save point. Determination for what? He doesn't have a goal right now.]
That's...huh. That was interesting. Does that always happen? The...feeling, thing.
no subject
Hehe, yeah! That's how it works in the first place, silly.
[I mean, gosh, this is basic stuff, man.]
Without determination, you can't SAVE at all.
no subject
[Silly Dave, if you're not determined, how can you SAVE anything?
But of course, Dave doesn't have much experience in saving, does he.]
slumps in with starbucks like what up
What's semantic?
what up what up what up homes
no subject
[They bite their lip for a moment, looking down at their feet while they try to find the right way to put things.]
Determination makes you keep going, even when you die. You go back and try again until you get it right.
Or, um. That's how I feel, when I LOAD.

GIANT SPOILERS FOR TRUE PACIFIST END LIKE WOAH
One moment, he was down in the ruins among the flowers, waiting for the others to break free to the surface while he remained Underground, biding the last of his time until he went back to the body he'd grown so sick and tired of. Being able to suddenly see sunlight- real light- is startling nearly to the point of being terrifying.
For a while, all Asriel can do is wander while helplessly carrying a little monster he found with him. A giant...seed of some kind that couldn't walk, and he didn't have the heart to leave it on the ground. (It's funny. Now he actually can feel real sympathy again...)
And then, of course, there are monsters everywhere. But also humans everywhere. Did something happen? Did the timeline get skewed and drop him on the surface, somehow...?
Asriel nearly bumps into Frisk before realizing who that is actually standing there, his ears drooping low while he continues to hold his Sunkern in his arms.]
Frisk...?
no subject
[They blink several times in shock, not quite believing their eyes. Is it really him? But the last time Frisk had seen him like this was down in the Underground, before they'd all left...!]
[A wide, ecstatic smile spreads across their face, and Frisk throws their arms around Asriel in a tight hug.]
It's you! You're you again!
no subject
[The sudden hug catches Asriel by surprise, a soft gasp escaping him when Frisk throws their arms around him. It's hard to tell whether or not he would have returned it, seeing how he's still clutching a Sunkern in his arms. But in spite of everything, a nervous little smile twitches onto his expression.]
Y-yeah...it doesn't really make sense, but I'm here.
[He pulls back just slightly so he can look at Frisk's face, concern and confusion etched into his features.]
This...this can't really be the surface, can it?
no subject
No, it's doesn't...but I'm so glad you're here!
[Frisk gives him that gentle, sleepy smile, then frowns as they look around.]
Well...it's not my surface, but it's a surface, I guess. I don't know where we are.
no subject
["These" is emphasized when he glances down at his Sunkern, who seems to be staring up at Frisk curiously.
...and it's just about that time that Asriel notices that star...thing.]
A-and...what is that?
no subject
I don't know what these guys are, either. Maybe we're in Japan or something. [They had to get those anime ideas from somewhere.]
Huh? [Frisk blinks and looks behind them.] ...oh, that's a SAVE point. S' what I have to use.
no subject
I guess it would make sense that you could SAVE up here, too...
[Still, he's not so sure. It feels like something went wrong somewhere. And though he doesn't want to- not really- he...has to ask.]
Frisk, you...didn't RESET. ...did you?
no subject
N-no, of course not! We're all--the with the barrier broken, there's no need to RESET anymore!
[That doesn't change the fact that it's still been happening, and Frisk can't figure out why. But...]
no subject
Good. ...we need to figure out what did happen, then...somehow. H-how long have you been up here?
no subject
Not very long...me and Mom were going to the city to find a place to stay, and I stopped for a second to look at a bug and then she was gone and I was here.
...and the bug was a lot bigger.
no subject
[That's...even stranger. Where could they all have gone?]
no subject
Nuh-uh. But I did find Sans' shortcuts! ...I think. They're a lot like them at least.
