Someone please stop him

Who: Perry, Rise, and Teddie

Summary: Perry is a horrible dad and decided to run away

When Perry wakes up, something immediately felt... off. Not bad or unusual, but off. He was too groggy to realize what was wrong at the moment. When he decided to rub the sleep out of his eyes though he was stopped by something hard. He blinked in confusion and to try to see what was going on.

… Yeah that was his bill. His successfully rubs his eyes to try to see if he was just dreaming before realizing how suddenly fuzzy he was. Yep, he was a platypus again.

For a moment, he was excited. He missed this body so much and it was nice to feel like himself again, even if, from the looks of it, he was still in Johto.

Then a horrid thought struck his mind. If anyone saw him in this body, then that means that if any of his family were to arrive, then if his family were to wind up here more people would know that his was their pet. And if his family were to find out that their pet wasn't mindless...

He would be ruined.

Quickly Perry gathered his belongings. Grabbing basically everything he had (and being thankful for his strength even in his tiny body) before realizing that he shouldn't just leave Rise-chan and Teddie in the dark. He jolted down a note as fast as he could while it was still dark out.

Dear Teddie and Rise-chan,

I'm sorry for doing this with no warning, but I have to go for a little while. I cannot say when I'll be back, but hopefully it will be soon. I trust that you'll get by fine without me and have left some money in case you need anything.

I just ask that you don't try to find me while I'm away. I'll be fine, don't worry. I just can't be seen for a little while

Once he's finished with the note (and leaving 10,000 P like he promised), he placed it where Teddie could see it and ran off to find some place to hide. He wasn't really looking for any particular place, so when he reached Ilex Forest he honestly had no idea where he was.

Not that it mattered though. He needed to stay here for awhile and it's not like he needed to know where he is for a little while. And in the very least he found a water source to chill by so at least he doesn't need to worry about dehydrating if he's stuck like this for awhile.

At this point he's just resting his back against a nearby tree with his eyes closed. Just hoping that this gets over with soon so that he can come back to Goldenrod as soon as possible.

Rise woke up to the distinct lack of noise coming from the other room. She's gotten so used to Teddie's whining about having to get up so early in the morning that she uses it as an alarm clock. So naturally she's worried about what's going on.

Until she feels a familiar presence in the back of her mind. ".... oh! Kanzeon!"

Then it hits her: this happened months earlier! She sits up and closes her eyes, concentrating on the ability she's actually missed this whole time. Teddie was next door... Perry was...nowhere near Teddie. She frowns as she opens her eyes and gets up to get dressed. "Nanako, dad ran off! Something's gotta be wrong!"

It doesn't take long for her to get to the Ilex Forest thanks to the thunderous run of her Tyranitar. If Perry were to wake up, it'd be to the noise of Rise calling for him and the trumpet of Kanji booming through the trees.

Perry was always kind of a light sleeper so it doesn't take long for him to wake up. At first he thought he was being attacked with how frightening Kanji was sounding. He was actually just about ready to get into a fight himself until he heard a familiar voice.

He felt his heart stopped as he recognized the voice as Rise-chan. She found out where he was already? Or at least the general area?

Well even if she was here, he's not just going to let her find him like this. As best he can, he stealthily moves away from the calls for him in hopes that he can lose them if he's fast enough.

Rise huffs when Kanji finally stops making that noise. "You know, we probably scared him off." Kanji looks down sheepishly as Rise jumps off of his back. "Let me try and see if I can pinpoint him..."

Taking a deep breath, she closes her eyes and concentrates once more, hands clasped in front of her as if she was praying. She opens her eyes mere seconds after starting, brightly smiling. "I know you're out here, dad! You can't run from me while I have my powers back~"

Perry slows down his run down when he hears that. Wait a minute, Rise has a power that helps her find people? Perry doesn't remember her talking about that ever.

Granted since he's still doesn't want to let Rise know what he's really like he can't really judge right now.

Still, he wanted to be sneaky still, so he hides behind a nearby tree now to observe what's going on. It's not being hypocritical if she's openly admitting she has powers, right?

Of course she hasn't told Perry yet. It never came up. Rise liked talking about the idol part of her, and her friends. Shadows, Personas, the bad parts of her past were not things she really wanted to talk about on a regular basis.

"... you know, hiding behind that tree won't do you any good. Why not just come out now? Nanako is around here somewhere, and that might be a bad thing if you're still hiding."

Perry stiffens when he hears that. He figures that it might be a guess since it's not like there's much Perry could do in a forest like this, but still Rise isn't a liar.

He's not going to move though, mostly because he's stubborn and hopes she drops it if he's silent enough.

Rise taps her foot on the ground for a few moments before walking right over to the tree. She takes a deep breath before looking behind it, expecting to see Perry as a human behind it. When there's no one there, she blinks a few times. It doesn't occur to her to look down at the moment.

"E-Eh? Was Kanzeon wrong? But he's supposed to be right here..."

Perry freezes. Well maybe if he stood still she will give up and go away. But no, at this point it would just be cowardly to continue hiding like this.

He clears his throat out to let Rise know where he is, although now it sounds more like a weird chitter rather than how he normally sounds.

Jumping badly, Rise falls onto her behind with a yelp. "O-Ow..." She grits her teeth a bit as she opens her eyes, looking at what startled her...... It wasn't a Pokémon...

"... what's a platypus doing here? Is this what a Psyduck is supposed to be?"

Perry reaches out to grab her, but considering that he's still getting used to his shortness now, it failed miserably.

And then he just... points to his fedora with a deadpan look on his face when he hears Rise speak. Come on Rise, surely you have seen this fedora often enough to know who it belongs to.

Fedora. That fedora.

WAIT.

THAT FEDORA?

".... d-dad?"

Perry simply looks away from Rise, seemingly ashamed that she found him like this.

"... you're a Platypus.... that's not... what I expected. So you're like Teddie."

Except not a Shadow. Rise takes a deep breath before standing up, dusting herself off. "That's one way to find out. You could have just told me, you know."

Perry give a sheepish look and a nod when Rise says this wasn't what she expected. Well yes, Perry could understand how unexpected it would be to see him like this.

But the last part concerns him. He opens his mouth to speak, but then remembers he can't really "talk" in this body so he pulls out his Pokegear to text Rise.

It's not that easy.

"Not that easy? Why not just be open about it like Teddie is? Everyone he talks to knows he's a bear. It's not like anyone believes him until I tell them he's right."

Which is an awkward confirmation in of itself. Who would admit their bear is a friend? A real friend, for one.

There is a long pause, unsure how to word this or even if he should tell Rise this at all. But in the end he starts texting her again.

My family doesn't know that I'm this sentient.

They can't know.

Perry. No.

"I don't think you have to worry about that here unless they show up. I won't tell them if you want me to keep it a secret."

She's good at keeping secrets. Some secrets.

You can never be too careful, Rise!

Perry looks uncertain, even looking over his shoulder as if expecting his entire family to be behind him right now. He then sighs and texts Rise again

It would be nice.

Even if you do forget this place once you go home, I don't really want to deal with the repercussions again.

That "again" might have not been entirely intentional.

"Again? This happened before?"

Perry, really, what kind of life do you lead where this might be common place? Rise is going to look worried, of course.

"Did you erase people's memories?"

Perry somehow manages to look even more shifty as he texts her again.

I didn't do anything that they didn't consent to.

In other words: yes, he totally has erased people's memories in the past.

.....

"Can you not do that to me please? I promise I won't tell anyone!"

Perry lets out what was probably supposed to be a nervous laugh, but it comes out as a chitter.

Luckily since you're not my adoptive family I don't have to worry about erasing you memory.

Come to think of it, I probably only need to worry about my boss arriving, but it's still not... fun to have your family find out about things like this.

"Is your boss an animal, too? What kind?"

Is it something cute, like a kitty or a duckling?

Human

He feels kind of bad because he gets the feeling that Rise wanted something more... cute, to be his boss.

"Oh." She does sound disappointed.

"Do you work with other animals?"

Most agents are animals.

I had to work with a panda recently, actually.

Even though he kind of liked Peter now, it pained him a little to text that since humans do tend to like pandas a lot.

"A panda? That's so cool! Have you worked with things like dogs and cats? Or are they all exotic?"

She's taking this really well, Perry.

Well... at least she's not taking it hard since that's part of the reason he ran away in the first place.

Still Perry didn't really interact with a lot of his coworkers in the first place so he feels a little improperly prepared to explain this stuff.

There are dogs and cats. Any animal can be an agent, actually.

Of course they have to be pretty sentient, but that's a given.

Rise has seen some things in her life, and used to hang out with a rather sentient fox that could heal people and answered wishes. Plus, Teddie. You'll have to be weirder, Perry, for her to not take it well. At least you're not an alien.

"Wow... who was the worst to work with?"

That gave Perry a pause, since he felt kind of awkward answering it.

The panda.

"... the panda..."

Why would a panda-... Panda's are notorious for one thing. "Was he lazy?"

Well the whole thing was kind of a touchy subject, but things were okay now. All he really needs to do is make sure it doesn't sound weird.

My nemesis cheated on me for him once.

Smooth.

That... sounds... like some weird fanfiction or anime. Really. Maybe it was American? No, Japan would come up with something strange like that. After all, as an idol, she's had to do strange things, too.

"Wait, so you were dating your nemesis, and he cheated on you? Is that why you want a new one? Why didn't you just say so! I can help with that~"

No. Rise. No. That's not what that means at all.

Perry eyes widen in shock. If he didn't have fur now, Rise could easily noticed that his face flushed do to that question.

We're not dating. I meant "cheating on me as a nemesis", really.

And it's okay, he's not fighting him anymore so it's alright.

"That's no fun! The way you keep talking about 'nemesis', it may as well be dating. Cheating on someone is usually for dating, not what you're talking about."

Pouts a lot.

What did he do to deserve this?

I'm sorry, but there really isn't a better way to describe it.

Honestly we're just friends now.

Referring to your nemesis in a way that makes you sound like a couple will do that to you, Perry.

"You and the nemesis, or you and the panda?"

It's really hard to explain what this relationship is like, Rise-chan!

Both? But me and my nemesis aren't really nemeses anymore so we're just friends now.

Just admit you love each other and things will be okay.

"How did you become friends? Was it some sort of 'we're tired of fighting and you're a really neat guy, let's hang out over beers or something?'"

You know, it just figures. When Teddie awoke to the joyous occasion of being reunited with his fur, the very first thing he wanted to do was show it off to his best pal Perry.

So as anyone can imagine, finding a letter saying he split threw Teddie in an outrage. The bear-y nerve of that guy!

"NNNNGAAAH! If that jerk thinks he's gonna get away without seeing me, he's got another thing coming!"

Luckily for Teddie, Perry left him everything he needed to track him down. With a team made up of mostly fully grown bears as well as a bat with a huge nose, the letter he left was pretty much 'Perry's scent paradise'. The hunt seriously only lasted as long as it did because Teddie is lazy and Perry sure can hustle.

But once Teddie and his gang do make it to the forest, Perry may hear the ungodly chorus of some very unhappy bears. The loudest of which being a weird child in a bear suit.

Honestly the very second he heard Teddie and his army of bears he let out a sigh. He really hoped that giving him some money would at least distract him enough so that he wouldn't bother to look for him.

While hiding behind his tree, he looks over to confirm that it was Teddie and his team that went to go look for him. Sure enough, he saw the bears that were normally on Teddie's team and... was that supposed to be a bear? He remembered Teddie mentioning that he used to be a bear but he wasn't expecting such a mascot-y looking bear.

In fact this is confusing him so much that he's kind of stunned and forget to move for a little while.
