[But, well. It's NOT a fun story, definitely not one that he wants to go telling at their Christmas party where Wrath's around. But he's definitely glad for the change of topic, it's a good distraction.]
But say...Lust? She wasn't ever like that, she was quiet and followed me around everywhere asking me questions. She's always been the smart one.
[He grins fondly as he says it; the situation surrounding it may have been a straight up horror show, but he doesn't have to mention those parts. It hadn't been all bad. He'd gotten a little sister out of it.]
It's almost like being a child, but not, because we're born with the same level of brain development and all. Just without most of the memories to go with it.
So Wrath's a special case. Hell, we're still learning what to do with him.
[Some of that same older brother fondness creeps into his voice then, too.]
[She nods along as he explains. She's honestly not SURE she really wants to know-- so far she's felt a point of connection, a deep relatability, to every single Homunculus she's met. The little boy currently shredding wrapping paper ferociously in the other room has every chance of being another one, and the fact that he is a little boy makes it all smack even more of those awful firstlife memories.]
[It makes her gut twist to think of one of Envy's mother's victims being a literal child.]
[But you know what?]
[It's mitigated, not by the alcohol buzz but by that soft note in Envy's voice, and she finds herself smiling with half-shut eyes at him despite the melancholy subject matter. And once he trails off, she reaches out to nudge him gently with her elbow.]
[Those words coming from her and the look she's giving him make him feel warm all the way to the tips of his fingers, in a way that not even the lurking guilt for feeling it can stop.]
[He looks almost startled again, but this time at least it's a more normal, easily written off time for him to look like that. It's what he usually looks like, getting unexpected praise--especially when he's not really sure he deserves it, given everything.]

[But there's a pleased little grin trying to creep onto his face that he can't really hide.]
[This is actually the first time since this whole thing started that anyone's actually praised him for anything to do with it. He's kind of just been constantly in trouble, and for good reason. Not that he'd NEEDED to be patted on the back, but...]
