I'm Dreaming of the Life I Once Loved
Who: Meridiana (
occultigen) and YOU!
Where: Goldenrod City
When: Anytime during the month of February!
Summary: What do you get when you cross a Victorian-era seeress with a pack of tarot cards? There's one easy way to find out...
Rating: PG!
Log:
[It's not particularly nice out these days, but at the very least it's not snowing most of the time and the weather's usually above freezing, and even on the worse days of the month, with the benefit of a couple of Fire-type Pokemon (and a few who happen to know Sunny Day) it's not altogether difficult to keep warm in spite of the chill in the air.
Which is why, at various times during the month of February, you might just see Meridiana bundled up and sitting at one of the outdoor tables of a cafe in Goldenrod, facing the street and playing with a pack of tarot cards. Every so often, she'll make a face and shake her head at a card she turns up; most of the time, though, she's shifting and arranging them with practiced and familiar ease. She's done this sort of reading before, in a similar way, and made a little bit of money at it and helped give passerby some guidance into their circumstances and futures, so all in all it's a reasonable enough way of passing the time on a quiet afternoon.
On days when she's out, she's got a little handmade sign up to advertise her business (which her Tropius is helpfully displaying for her), so if you happen to be passing by and would like to sit and have your fortune told — or even just stop by to chat a while — feel free to pause and say hello!]
[OOC: Okay, so! This is an open log for people in Goldenrod who'd like to stop in and interact with Meridiana, either just to hang out or to use her fortune-telling as a hook! As a standard disclaimer, I am not anywhere close to being an expert at this myself, so I'll be using this website for any readings she's asked to give and just going with whatever it returns; if you'd prefer to handwave something or for character/plot reasons would prefer to have her give your character a specifically-tailored prediction or result (that is, specific cards, a particular overall meaning, whatever), feel free to let me know and we can swing it that way as well! And of course, you're not obligated to ask for one; you're just as welcome to chat and hang out with her instead!
This log is good for the entire month of February, so please give me a rough date of when a thread is taking place on your starter, along with anything else I might need to know before we get rolling!]

2/9
[Look. Carolina's not one to believe in things like this, but the tropius carrying the sign is pretty cute. She's got nothing to do, so she can at least stand a conversation. See if she'd like to humor the pretty young woman and her cards.]
no subject
[Her little helpers probably being Fire-types, by inference.]
I don't much mind it, though. I like coming out to sit and speak with people, and if my cards can help them a bit on their way, then I'm so much the gladder for that as well.
no subject
[Months ago, Carolina might have said goodbye right then and been on her way-- but North and York have gotten her looking at things differently these days. Even if it's complete unscientific baloney, why not?
She's been missing hearing crazy stories recently.
Shifting from one leg to the other, she settles her hands in the pockets of her jeans.]
How much? Let's see what you can do.
no subject
[Though she does motion to a basket she's got sitting on the table, which contains a not-inconsequential smattering of money resting inside it.]
Rather, I'm simply accepting tips, from anyone satisfied with the reading they've had. So if you'd care to, please do sit down, and I'll be happy to get started for you.
no subject
[She pulls the chair out, sits down in the most unladylike way possible, and crosses her arms on the edge of the table.]
How do we get started?
no subject
[As she says this, she takes up the deck and begins to straighten it out. Once she's got them relatively in order, she proceeds to mix up the cards thoroughly and neatly, working through them with practiced efficiency. Eventually, once she's content, she fans them out, facedown, for Carolina to choose from.]
Choose three, as you like; whichever three you care to, from anywhere in the deck you see fit. Place the first facedown to the left, the next in the middle, and the last to the right, one-two-three.
no subject
[Well, this is weird. Carolina can't say she believes it at all, but curiosity is taking over. She selects one from the middle, one from each side, and puts them all down in the order instructed.
As far as she's concerned, it's random. But who knows?]
Alright.
no subject
[She sets the rest of her deck aside, turning her attention to the three cards selected and regarding them for a moment before turning over the first one.
...And her eyebrows proceed to go right up, as she turns over the Nine of Swords.]
...Oh. Er. Something in your past...you had a rather difficult time of it, didn't you? Was there something that made you terribly anxious, and perhaps led you to feel rather negative about yourself?
no subject
Of course-- that's how these things work, right? Coincidence and generalizations. Still, she lowers her head and looks to the side, expression blank.]
...That may be true.
You're not asking for details, are you?
no subject
[...]
Well, if that's the case, I suppose there isn't much need in dwelling on the specifics of it, but — to have the Nine showing up in your past like this, it suggests that whatever it is we'll see in the next two cards will likely have this as a foundation. That is to say, that event or set of circumstances, they affected you very profoundly — causing you to doubt yourself, to worry about your situation, perhaps even sending you into a depression...
Well. That event, then, is likely something that still affects you even now, and we'll see how it's been carried forward with you into your present and future, as well.
no subject
Instead, she asks something else.]
How exactly do you get all that from one card?
[And though she sounds a bit skeptical, she actually does want to know what brought this kind of conclusion.]
no subject
[She frowns a little, herself.]
That is to say — if this card and its meanings weren't meant for your past, then you would have chosen a different one entirely, wouldn't you? But the one you picked was this one, so...
