I'm Dreaming of the Life I Once Loved
Who: Meridiana (
occultigen) and YOU!
Where: Goldenrod City
When: Anytime during the month of February!
Summary: What do you get when you cross a Victorian-era seeress with a pack of tarot cards? There's one easy way to find out...
Rating: PG!
Log:
[It's not particularly nice out these days, but at the very least it's not snowing most of the time and the weather's usually above freezing, and even on the worse days of the month, with the benefit of a couple of Fire-type Pokemon (and a few who happen to know Sunny Day) it's not altogether difficult to keep warm in spite of the chill in the air.
Which is why, at various times during the month of February, you might just see Meridiana bundled up and sitting at one of the outdoor tables of a cafe in Goldenrod, facing the street and playing with a pack of tarot cards. Every so often, she'll make a face and shake her head at a card she turns up; most of the time, though, she's shifting and arranging them with practiced and familiar ease. She's done this sort of reading before, in a similar way, and made a little bit of money at it and helped give passerby some guidance into their circumstances and futures, so all in all it's a reasonable enough way of passing the time on a quiet afternoon.
On days when she's out, she's got a little handmade sign up to advertise her business (which her Tropius is helpfully displaying for her), so if you happen to be passing by and would like to sit and have your fortune told — or even just stop by to chat a while — feel free to pause and say hello!]
[OOC: Okay, so! This is an open log for people in Goldenrod who'd like to stop in and interact with Meridiana, either just to hang out or to use her fortune-telling as a hook! As a standard disclaimer, I am not anywhere close to being an expert at this myself, so I'll be using this website for any readings she's asked to give and just going with whatever it returns; if you'd prefer to handwave something or for character/plot reasons would prefer to have her give your character a specifically-tailored prediction or result (that is, specific cards, a particular overall meaning, whatever), feel free to let me know and we can swing it that way as well! And of course, you're not obligated to ask for one; you're just as welcome to chat and hang out with her instead!
This log is good for the entire month of February, so please give me a rough date of when a thread is taking place on your starter, along with anything else I might need to know before we get rolling!]

That's true, it does refer to luck and chance! But a fortune...it's a way of saying, to tell someone's future, and what Fortune might have in store for them in that future, as they say. If that makes sense?
no subject
[Hmm.]
Demonstrate.
[A beat.]
...Please.
no subject
[Politely, she reaches over and relieves Peridot of the card, under the pretense of gathering them all up and shuffling the deck back into a stack.]
There, thank you. Now then, would you like me to answer a specific question for you, or simply read for your future? Either is fine, as you like.
no subject
[If she thinks of any questions later she'll probably keep pestering for more readings.]

[As she says this, she begins mixing up the cards thoroughly and neatly, working through them with practiced efficiency. After a little bit of devoted shuffling, she fans them out facedown in her hands, for Peridot to select from.]
Choose three, as you like; whichever three you care to, from anywhere in the deck you see fit. I'll have you place the first facedown to the left, please, and then the next in the middle, and the last to the right, one-two-three.
no subject
[Does she sound kind of skeptical? Yeah probably. But she considers the cards carefully, picks out whatever cards seem the most MATHEMATICALLY AND SCIENTIFICALLY CORRECT, and then follows the instructions to the letter.]
Now what?
no subject
Now, we see what the cards you've selected have to say.
[She sets the remainder of the deck aside, reaching for the first card Peridot set down and turning it over to reveal The Lovers.]
Ah, I see. In your past, it's the Lovers.
[THOSE CERTAINLY ARE SOME LOVERS, ALL RIGHT.]
At first glance, of course, it seems as though the Lovers is about...well, finding love. But it's also a card about beliefs, and about choices. Found in your past like this, it suggests that in your past, you've undergone a sort of...trial of belief, I suppose you might say. Perhaps you were faced with a very important choice, a sort of moral crossroads, and you found yourself in a position of having to make a decision because of it. Likely it was a difficult decision — choices signaled by the Lovers often are.
So I should think that you've either made that sort of decision in your past, or the dilemma has come up and you still have yet to make it; in either case, with it in your past, it's likely that it will be the foundation of your present and future, as well.

She grunts, nodding for Meridiana to continue.]

[She turns over the next card, the Queen of Swords, reversed.]
...in your present, the Queen of Swords. Upright, she suggests someone...mature, and thoughtful, who isn't inclined to let emotion cloud her reason. However, reversed in this way, she suggests instead an imbalance of emotion. It's...someone whose formerly clear perceptions are distorted by emotion, or who is losing that thoughtful maturity in the face of some extreme — either by being too emotional, or perhaps by being too devoid of emotion in a situation that would normally call for it.
[She pauses, tentative.]
And, er...the court cards, they sometimes represent people in particular, a certain person you're aware of, perhaps. So if what I've described seems to sound like a particular person you know...then it may be that that person is being indicated here.

Hah. SURELY NOT.]
Hmph. It doesn't really match anyone that I know of, but, perhaps... S[he shakes her head, leaning forward in her seat a little.] What about the last card?
