Taking it slow, but it's not typical

[Food service is...well, it's everything movies told him it would be. But as far as workplaces go, the café isn't half-bad. The bookshelves make everything seem quiet even during busy hours, and the comforting scent of paper and coffee fills the space. Dave actually kind of looks forward to his shifts there.

The best part, though, is making the latte art. It took him a while to get the hang of it, because it's got to do with as much science and math as it does art, but Dave is nothing if not a master of timing. Most customers will get a heart, leaf, or tulip, but at slower times of day, he might experiment with drawing a little more.

(He has, of course, also figured out how to draw a dick in your latte. But that's neither here nor there.)

He's a quiet, friendly server, and as long as it's not caffeine crunch time, feel free to request your favorite Pokémon. Or if you're the only one there on a slow day, just wait--he might surprise you.]

Bro, do you need a Repel to spray on? That seems kinda. Stalky.

If worse comes to worse, I might...from what I can tell, they really want to find trainer who will play with them. I guess they were hoping I would decide I didn't need a paycheck today.

[He likes spending time with Pokemon as much as the next guy, but he likes eating a lot more.]

Haha, right. Did you try explaining the institution of capitalism to them, maybe a dissertation on the exchange of goods and services for sweet, sweet cash could've enlightened them as to your needs.

[Kaneki can't help but make a face as he reaches for a nearby tin of ground coffee.]

Yeah, I feel like they wouldn't have really appreciated it if I did.

[They just can't understand the allure of that sweet cash dolla.]

Maybe I can get you to help me reason with them after work.

[Dave smiles a little at the invitation as he wipes the table down.]

Don't you live all the way in Olivine? You split space with Maka, right? That's kind of a hike to make for an audience of two, especially when most Pokémon are even less fiscally-minded than your average crocodile.

I could always bring you over, if you really wanted to come visit sometime. My Alakazam helps me get from here to there for work.

[His Kadabra Carrie couldn't manage such a feat, but Christine has been around a lot longer than she has. In fact, Christine didn't even belong to Kaneki originally, but was given to him by Maka as a gift a few months back.]

[He thinks about it, then finishes with the table, straightens up again.]

I mean...maybe. It'd be nice to get to hang out with Maka sometime. I mean, and you too, obviously, but it's not like I don't get to see your face constantly already.

[samsa]

I think Maka would like that, too. We get to see a lot of other people whenever we have book club meetings, but other than that it's usually just me and her.

[And while he knows Maka appreciates his company, having someone different around would be good for her, too.]

Yeah, I guess there's a big contingency of people who get to Goldenrod and then decide, eh, forget the rest of the map. Could get kind of isolating if you actually have a sense of adventure.

[He moves to a closer table, but keeps looking up at Kaneki as he works.]

You really want me over?

[Kaneki was almost guilty of that, and he would have been if Chie and later Maka hadn't gotten a hold of him.]

Sure. If you want to, and don't think we'd get too caught up in the Gligars outside to actually get there.

[Dave snickers a little.]

Hey, well, maybe another time then? You pretty much know my schedule, it's posted on the wall right with everybody's.

[samsa]

That works. Next time we're all free and there aren't hordes of Pokemon everywhere, then.

[He hands off the drink he'd been preparing for a customer before moving on to the next.]

I don't think I've asked, but ah...I hope you don't mind me asking, anyway. Where have you been staying lately, Dave-kun?

Hm? Uh, the hotel in town. I've been doubling up with my friend Karkat to cut down on costs, but it's still pretty convenient.

[samsa]

That's good. It's a lot better to have someone else to stay with, so I was hoping you'd say you found someone to room with. It can get pretty expensive.

[If you don't have a Meowth, anyway.]

Yeah. I mean, if he hadn't turned up when he did, I might've eventually caved and slept on the floor of Jade's room or something, but on the other hand, I gotta set a good example for the kids.
