On the new journey
Who: Mai
dancermai , Yachi
donoteat , Tanaka
monkcut (and anybody else who would like to join in)
Where: Route 29
When: April 19 - 23 ish.
Summary: It's time to start the journey through to the next town. Mai heads out after texting Yachi upon reading that she was nearby. Unbeknownst to her, there was also a Tanaka to join the fray. (And anybody else that may like to come and join in the beginners pokemon journey).
Rating: PG - possibly for battling pokemon
Log:
A) [After a good solid day of walking Mai had managed to find a nice spot to stop for the day and she set about setting up her area. She was exciting that soon she would be meeting people and it gave her the courage she needed to keep going. Since reading the manual, she had managed to..somehow..get through a few battles with wild pokemon but it was more self defense than anything. She didn't have the courage to outright ask Jam to do anything that would hurt himself.
Instead, most of her focus was on making sure Jam came out okay. To the point where it never even crossed her mind to take out a pokeball and catch one of the wild creatures that she had faced. She sighed. There was a slight look of dejection but she was determined to at least keep trying.
Mai caught Jam doing a little dance to the never ending background music and smiled. At the very least she would try harder for him.]
B) [It was only the second day on her journey out into this world of Pokemon and of course, the weather would suddenly take a horrible change. After all, he bag was only packed with the basics and she hadn't considered to purchase anything else before she left New Bark Town. When she looked out at the sky it had seem so clear. Mai dashed towards the nearest tree as the thunder sounded and a short burst of rain hit.
That wouldn't be so bad. A moment later, there was also a small amount of hail that followed and she sighed as she stood there. Well, at least with her backpack, the rest of her things would stay dry. It was more than could be said for the clothes she was wearing. She gave her drenched hair a tug and frowned slightly.
C) Pick your own open tag? I'm sure there's lots of things that can be done on this route!

Would enjoy the company. It's my first time out on a journey like this by myself actually. And...well...
[She glanced around her little area.]
There isn't anything else to set up really. All I have is a sleeping bag.
[She shrugged and looked up at the tree she was standing under.]
So what were you chasing that had you all worked up?
no subject
nonsense. ]
You've got Ryūnosuke Tanaka, now!! We'll get the camp set up in no time, me and Jaeger! You'll have cover to sleep in and everything!
[ that meant wood and making a makeshift tent for her!!! using his own supplies!!! don't mind if he starts setting down his bag, rolling up his sleeves and getting ready to work!!! as he shuffles into his bag to take out his supplies ( that had been hastily stuffed in there earlier ), he looks up at the question.
still grinning like a dumbo but you know cute girls do that to a guy ]
What, that? Before? [ he gives a dismissive wave! ] It was just a bird! We'll get 'em later, no sweat.
[ said bird is still in the tree, carefully listening in . . . ]

[She held out a hand in front of her as if that would be able to stop the sudden flurry of action that was about to take place. Really, she didn't need somebody to look after her that much. Mai could handle herself, just the extra company would have been nice.
His actions did make her laugh. He certainly reminded her of someone she knew a long time ago. Always putting himself out there to help other people.
Mai glances up towards the tree towards where the pokemon may be perched.]
If it's still there, why don't we try before it runs away? You seemed really excited to find it earlier.
[Excited...may be...a slight understatement really.]
no subject
[ he was pretty excited about it before, but— things change. times change for all men at some point in their lives. but— he notes her interest, and without another thought— ]
. . . Do you wanna try and catch something?
no subject
[She paused and appeared thoughtful for a moment. There wasn't really that much interest in bird pokemon for her...]
Have you caught a pokemon before?
[It would be nice to see how it worked. There was a slightly hopeful smile.]
no subject
Uh-huh!
[ he's super attentive to everything she has to say! he doesn't even stop to say "pokeballs". ]
Nah— only in the games back home? [ he gestures down to the scraggy at his feet. ] Just woke up with this one.
[ he's thoughtful for a moment as well, but then—!! he's got an idea! an idea that suddenly has him blasting up with energy again. ]
Want me to show you?!
no subject
[The question was mumbled and barely audible. She was confused for a moment but quickly brushed that off as the last question was asked and she nodded eagerly.]
I've spoken to so many people who have a lot of companions and I'm worried that I only have Jam. I've seen a few along this route but I've been avoiding them so far.
[Like...this strange purple cat that may or may not be following her along this road with wide staring eyes. Not that she could see it at this moment. She was probably just imagining things.]
no subject
Ready, Jaeger? [ ah-!! a squeak!!! ] We'll go first, 'kay Mai? You'll catch your first in no time!!
[ let him just get his pokédex out— he didn't know his pokémon's moves all by heart—! and while that, it may be a good idea to stay clear from that tree! ]
no subject
Although she couldn't deny this over eagerness of him to want to help out did remind her of someone back home. It felt comforting in a way to have that familiarity. Specially with this completely new environment.
Mai stepped back away from the area so she could have a clear view of what was going on. Behind the two of them, the little purple wide-eyed cat crept closer to also observe what was going on.]
Is this a part of the pokemon catching routine or is this your own personal ritual?
no subject
[ time to get down to what's ahead of them— a tree that needs some shaking up. ]
Time to shake the house up, Jaeger!! [ in which the scraggy replies with an equally enthusiastic shrill, suddenly dashing forward to thrust a low kick against the tree's trunk— it's enough to disturb the many branches easily, and thus disturbing what was in it. a ledyba falls, quickly scurries away, as well as the flutters of pidgeys fleeing the scene, and their prize erupts from the branches, patience thinned, and ready to fight back! the starly shrills with irritation, and dives to tackle the other pokémon. tanaka promptly forgets the pokédex in his hand, and only points forward with his iconic yell. ]
You're not gettin' away this time!! Go get 'em!!
[ jaeger does what she knows best to do— and that's kick the incoming bird with a whip like low kick, sending it skidding back into the very tree it hid behind before. they had drained its energy before they got here, cutting short the time needed to tire it out, and quickly— tanaka throws an empty pokéball at it; the starly gets wrapped in a sheet of light and taken inside, putting up a fight to calm the rolling ball on the floor— until it finally stops! ding!! ]
ALLLRRIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!!! Did'ja see that, Mai?!
[ his scraggy hops with victory by his feet as well, crying out with the same excitement!!!! their first!!!! ]
no subject
But hopefully he didn't notice. He was probably too excited about catching the little pokemon to really pay attention to her reaction anyway.
Hopefully.
When the battle was over she stood and brushed herself off, still the bright beaming smile and she held up a victory sign in return.]
I would say you're a seasoned pro at this, Ryūnosuke. You too, Jaeger.
[She made sure to give the little pokemon praise where it's due also.]
And I would be honoured if you would teach me your secrets to capturing pokemon.
[Although...she may not be actually doing all of the pre-battle battle cries. That's a little...]

[ oh gosh . . . he . . . he couldn't be any happier-!! look how much he's blushing!! how much his grin stretches at the compliments!!! man he definitely has to make this one count! jaeger puts her little paws to her cheeks in a bashful manner, which causes the loose skin around her waist to fall— ah no and it makes her seem even more shy, quickly hoisting what look like little pants back up. you didn't see that . . . !!! ]
O—Of course!! C'mon, let's go look for one!! I'll be right here every step of the way!

[Speaking of which. There was that little purple thing that has been following them around recently, peeking out from the bushes sometimes and usually with a little happy derpy smile.]
I don't know if you've noticed but since our um...fateful meeting... [For the lack of a nicer way to describe the situation] there's been a little purple cat loitering around our camp.
[She pointed towards a little espurr that now toddled out nearby with a wide smile.]
Isn't it cute?
no subject
[ he turns right over to that direction— "cute", huh. girls were like that, they liked cute things-! and tanaka definitely wasn't dumb enough to say otherwise! ]
Uuoh!! Definitely cute! Really cute! [ see???? he knows how to appreciate her tastes! ]
You want that one, right, Mai? Need us ta' drain it down some?
[ he and jaeger look a little eager to do whatever mai pleases— but unfortunately (or fortunately) for them, this espurr seems pretty friendly. ]
no subject
I'm not sure I want to attack. What if we hurt it?
[She seems more than a little hestitant and the espurr wasn't helping. The little pokemon toddles straight up to Jaeger and with a bright, if not quite derpy, smile and wide eyes that seemed to stare into your soul spoke very quietly.]
Purr.
Isn't she so cute? [Now she definitely had to keep this one.]
