On the new journey
Who: Mai
dancermai , Yachi
donoteat , Tanaka
monkcut (and anybody else who would like to join in)
Where: Route 29
When: April 19 - 23 ish.
Summary: It's time to start the journey through to the next town. Mai heads out after texting Yachi upon reading that she was nearby. Unbeknownst to her, there was also a Tanaka to join the fray. (And anybody else that may like to come and join in the beginners pokemon journey).
Rating: PG - possibly for battling pokemon
Log:
A) [After a good solid day of walking Mai had managed to find a nice spot to stop for the day and she set about setting up her area. She was exciting that soon she would be meeting people and it gave her the courage she needed to keep going. Since reading the manual, she had managed to..somehow..get through a few battles with wild pokemon but it was more self defense than anything. She didn't have the courage to outright ask Jam to do anything that would hurt himself.
Instead, most of her focus was on making sure Jam came out okay. To the point where it never even crossed her mind to take out a pokeball and catch one of the wild creatures that she had faced. She sighed. There was a slight look of dejection but she was determined to at least keep trying.
Mai caught Jam doing a little dance to the never ending background music and smiled. At the very least she would try harder for him.]
B) [It was only the second day on her journey out into this world of Pokemon and of course, the weather would suddenly take a horrible change. After all, he bag was only packed with the basics and she hadn't considered to purchase anything else before she left New Bark Town. When she looked out at the sky it had seem so clear. Mai dashed towards the nearest tree as the thunder sounded and a short burst of rain hit.
That wouldn't be so bad. A moment later, there was also a small amount of hail that followed and she sighed as she stood there. Well, at least with her backpack, the rest of her things would stay dry. It was more than could be said for the clothes she was wearing. She gave her drenched hair a tug and frowned slightly.
C) Pick your own open tag? I'm sure there's lots of things that can be done on this route!

She lags a bit behind their heels, trying to keep both of them in view so she can make sure they're all right and so she won't lose sight of them if visibility gets worse.
There really is nothing all around besides trees and mud and trees. It's their best bet even while her mind's screaming that STANDING UNDER A LIGHTNING ROD OF A TREE IS ABOUT THE WORST THING THEY CAN DO, if the tree is short and stocky, it'll be okay, with dense enough leaves that they'd be able to dry off. As of now, catching a cold is much more probably than getting hit by lightning.]

soon enough, they're there though, a rather large tree with thick roots, leaves quivering one on top of the other in layers, but it's so many it's perfectly dry under it! just look at that spot under there! as they arrive under it, tanaka gives a pumped huff, hands to his waist as he internally praises himself. he's a good man. a great man. he'll definitely take care of these girls under his wing. he plops his bag and belongings onto the floor, and waits for the girls to sit before he does. ]
Pretty good, huh? It's the best tree in this route, I bet!

[She can reason her way around anything, so even if it's against her better judgement, this is ...probably... still the best course of action.
She sits a bit away from the trunk and roots, not sure if lightning would be conducted through the wood, but if things catch on fire she has a water Pokemon handy in case the rain and hail doesn't hold out. But if that happens, then they'll have to worry about lacerations on top of burns and paralysis, so she keeps her Pokemon safe in the bag in her lap, arms wrapped around it in a hug for comfort.]
The weather's been great the past few weeks, so I wasn't prepared for something like this. Are you both okay? Are your Pokemon okay? I have some potions and... well, not a lot left anymore.

[As she caught up to everyone, she pulled the blanket off her shoulders to reveal the pokemon she had carried over. Jam jumped off her shoulder and proceeded to stretch. She bent down to let the little scraggy walk out of her arms.]
Thank you, Ryūnosuke. You've been so nice to me since we met.
[She smiled warmly towards him. It was definitely a life saver to meet people on this journey. Then she turned towards, Yachi.]
I'm so sorry! If I knew it was going to rain like this, I definitely should have delayed my journey or just met you at the other end of this route. We're all drenched.
no subject
It's— It's definitely nothing!!! I'll do it a hundred times over again if I could!!
[ yes good. the buttpats give him strength. ]
You should save your potions, Yachi! [ and promptly, he shuffles into his bag, and lays out every potion he could find in there. ] You guys— Use these too, alright? Jaeger's a champ.
[ and the tiny scraggy flexes. ]

It's okay, Mai! I would have been caught outside in the rain anyways, and I'd rather it be with other people than by myself. I feel a lot safer with you and Tanaka here. Jaeger too! [She gives the Scraggy a smile, not so scary when she isn't being glowered at like their first meeting]
I wonder how long this storm will last though... Maybe Mari can fly up above the clouds and see the direction and extent of the storm.
[In moving to unclip her the ball from her belt, two of them are knocked off and both Pokemon released: a Pidgey that immediately shrinks away from the rain and burrows under the hem of Yachi's blanket, and a Totodile that ignores Yachi's yelp of surprise-- instead of her worst fear of her starter going on a rampage and eating all her friends, he makes a beeline out of the overhang and into the rain and hail, having the time of his life catching and shattering the chunks of ice with his teeth.]
Oh. Uh... This is Mari [she slides the blanket off her shoulders and burritos the Pidgey inside] and that out there is Eli.
no subject
Mai laughs a little at the scene and looks towards all of the potions that seem to have found their way into light.]
I think between us, we'll be set to make it to the next town.
[Then two more pokemon joined their fray and Mai couldn't be more excited. She wanted to reach out and hug the pidgey and even hug the excited little totodile.]
They're both so adorable. Aren't they, Ryūnosuke?
[Since they're introducing pokemon now, Mai also unclips a pokeball and releases a little excitable espurr who promptly walks towards Yachi and the pidgey, wanting to be friends with everyone.]
no subject
ohoh, they were showing pokémon, huh! everyone knew jaeger by now— he knew yachi's pokémon from video, mai's pokémon too— he helped catch that espurr! looks like the only other that yachi didn't know was the one he caught during the stretch of time he wandered the route with mai, and with a smirk, he lifts up his extra ball to toss out! the first time he's getting sent out after getting caught! ]
This one's—!
[ the ball's bright crack of light sends out . . . a starly!
a starly that promptly dive bombs at tanaka's poor, poor head to peck at. ]
—YEOW, TRIGGER?! Stop tha— ACK–!!
[ trigger doesn't seem to happy— and quickly, jaeger jumps to the rescue, to try and crawl onto tanaka and over to his shoulders to bat the bird away with her thick head! only to get pecked at too, oh goodness— and there goes tanaka, stepping backwards and forwards like a blind man.
help . . . ]
no subject
She needs to stop this, she needs to-- before someone-- ]
Eli!! [Her Totodile snaps to attention at the call of his name, teeth gleaming in excitement.] Water gun!
[Not as fun, but he jumps into the fray and unleashes a spray of water towards Tanaka and his Pokemon, the force propelling his little body backwards. Yachi looks mortified, full of regrets, silently mouthing "I'm so sorry." That's not how you break up a fight. You hose down dogs, not people.]
no subject
Firstly, humans being attacked and then what appeared to be a giant water cannon.
Well, at least they were already all wet?
Mai had to stifle a laugh because the situation really wasn't funny. Not...funny at all. It's hard to not laugh at the scene really.]
Is everybody okay?
[And by everybody, she really meant Ryūnosuke as he was the one that got the full brunt of it all. She glanced towards Yachi, again trying and failing at hiding her laughter. Then picked up some of the not as soaking wet towels to hold out to him.
Jam just jumped out of the crossfire right before the water gun and was busy now trying to jump on Eli just in case the little pokemon had any other ideas about firing off another round of water.]
no subject
but in a spray of water, one that throws the starly off course and away from them but also sends the scary face duo a few feet back and falling backwards to the ground--
was that what it was like to get blasted with a power washer. tanaka lays there, defeated and even more drenched than before, jaeger on top of his face, and trigger taking shelter above the try, squawking down angrily at them. ]
. . . Ow . . .
[ his skin feels like it's earned a harsh bellyflop from the neighborhood swimming pool— except he got it right to the face
you did well, yachi . . . you did well . . . ]
no subject
Don't worry, Jam, Yachi's got a handle on her Totodile, grabbing him around the middle and kowtows right in front of everyone who got soaked, palms and forehead pressed into the wet grass and Eli struggling in between her stomach and knees]
I'm so so so sorry...!!
[Times like these she'd ask herself WWJD. Except instead of J, it's S. And S is the holy trinity of volleyball
parentssenpai that is Sawamura, Sugawara, or Shimizu: long time veterans of knowing exactly what to do and how to do it, that doesn't involve almost killing your friends.]I'm sorry, Tanaka! Jaeger! Trigger! Mai [for good measure] and everyone!! That wasn't- None of you have a fire Pokemon, do you...?
[Her Pidgey could probably blow dry them off, but have you ever gone outside sopping wet on a windy day? They'd literally freeze to death.]
no subject
Specially with the trigger happy bird still glaring down from the tree.]
I don't think we have any fire pokemon. I'm sure the blankets we have will be fine.
[The now wet and dripping blankets. Maybe they can build a fort by hanging them from the tree or something. They may drip water but at least the hail might somehow bounce off. Speaking of which...]
Are the ice blocks getting bigger...?

[ he quickly looks over to the other girl for support. HE'S TOTALLY OKAY LOOK AT THAT RED WETNESS FROM THE NECK UP-- he's hoisting himself back up now, jaeger sliding down to the ground and shaking herself dry. he's trying his best to get her to calm down with gestures and— well-! a proud smile-!! ] You saved us!! Kiyoko-san's teaching you so well . . . !!
[ is he ready to cry? wait, was he crying already? his bare arm buries itself into his face; ah, the karasuno goddess . . . there was no way one couldn't cry at her shimmering memory . . . ]
no subject
Yachi looks over at the Pokemon gathered around Mai, Tanaka's Scraggy who had gotten soaked because of her, and the Starly who would never ever trust her ever again. She owes it to them, and to restore honor to Kiyoko's tutelage, to figure out how to get out of the situation. It's the manager's job, Kiyoko had taught her, to make things run smoothly so everyone can play without worry.
She gets to her feet, and recalls both of her own Pokemon back into their balls before they cause any more trouble.]
Tanaka... Mai... Are you okay walking a bit longer? If the hail is getting worse, we shouldn't wait out a storm. [She tilts her head over to where the two of them came down the route] If it sprung up as quickly on you two as it did for me, the storm must be moving either northward or southward. If we head out west, towards the next town, we might be able to get clear of it.
no subject
Jam might be just a tad spoilt. Never has to go back into his ball.]
I can continue on. It probably is a better idea to head that way instead of staying under this um -- very wonderful and sturdy tree.
[She turns to Tanaka with a smile. He seems fine, asides from the very manly tears streaming down his face.]
Maybe we can get you something for the strawberry face that you have now.
