Upon seeing Mary, James' entire demeanor changed. His features brightened, he was smiling, he looked younger--probably more so what he should look like opposed to how he normally did. His pace quickened from a sluggish walk, to almost a skip as he made his way over to her.
"Mary?!"
There was that raising in his voice that made it almost a question, but he knew better than that to even question the reality that was present before him. Without a doubt, there she was, there was his wife in flesh and blood.
He didn't know what to do what to feel what to say.
...But to curve the happiness that was swelling within him, almost bursting at the seams, was this unwavering thorn that seemed to have a fancy for his chest. That unusual and uninvited tightening caused his smile to falter for a moment, before he forced himself to regain the smile he once had again.
