"Roxas is a Nobody. My Nobody. Says he doesn't have a heart."

Three tiny slivers of information were all Sora had written down in the journal he'd been keeping for Jiminy Cricket. Though they were less information and more direct answers to questions he had, though he hadn't yet been able to connect the two. What is a Nobody? What did Roxas mean when he said he was, in a way, half of who Sora is? How the heck does one live without his or her heart? Last time Sora tried that trick, his body disintegrated into light, what senses he had left fell through the floor... and awakened again in Johto.

He had other questions, too, about doubles and lookalies, but... that wasn't exactly a subject Sora was interested in broaching, and he wondered if Roxas felt the same way. It'd already kept him awake at night enough since last week as it was. Sora closed the little notebook in his hands with a sigh as he sat himself down in the grass and waited for Roxas. The sudden new music wasn't really helping him relax, either.

Roxas had been rather apprehensive about this conversation. He knew that was going to happen eventually, it had to. His connection to Sora was something that Sora had to know about. But at the same time, it wasn't a subject he was comfortable with, being a nobody, and what that meant. He wasn't even sure if he had all the answers.

It didn't take him long to find Sora, and to sit down across from him. Roxas paused for a moment before finally taking a breath.

"So, what did you want to talk about?"

Roxas nodded, not sure what to say at first. He'd only been around for year, and a few months now, he figured, and while a lot had happened, there was a lot he wasn't all that sure of.

"There's not a whole lot to tell. A lot of it is fuzzy, actually. But I'll try my best." Roxas paused to take a breath.

"I don't remember a lot about when I first appeared, I think was like a zombie or something. Then I met Axel and he brought me to the Organization. I was there for almost a year, and then I left, because I wanted to know why the keyblade chose me." Roxas paused. It felt like he was missing something but couldn't remember what.

"After I left, I fought Riku and lost. The next time I woke up, I was in Twilight Town, and I didn't remember anything about before. All I knew then was that strange things were happening to me and that I was dreaming about you. I was in Twilight Town for a week, before learning that it was just a digital copy that the Guy in Red was keeping me in to prevent the Organization from coming for me. I got my memory back around that time as well, and then I met you, Sora. But you were asleep, and I was supposed to merge with you so you could wake up, but I ended up here instead."

That was about it, really. The short history of Roxas. He stared at the ground, drawing in the dirt with his finger.

"I...don't think so. I think it just has to do with us," Roxas replied. "See, when someone becomes a heartless, the shell left behind is a nobody. So, you must have become a heartless, and that's how I showed up."

That sounded right, at least to Roxas. He had Sora's memories up to a point.

"I think something happened with you and Namine, and that you had to sleep so that you could be put back together. Because I'm your nobody, I guess I was the last piece."

"I prefer thinking that I'm just a part of you, rather than what's left," Roxas said quietly. Sure, a nobody was just an empty shell, but Roxas knew he was more than that, that all nobodies were more.

"I'm real," He said, after Sora prodded him on the shoulder.

"It's sort of weird, yeah. But I remember feelings, emotions, things like that. Sometimes really intensely, like, more than I think a nobody would. I think that's because I'm connected to you," Roxas replied.

The fact that he didn't have a heart weighed on him somewhat, but he knew he didn't experience it in the same way that Axel did.

Roxas nodded, and managed a smile. He was pretty sure it wasn't how it worked, but he appreciated the gesture all the same.

"Thanks Sora. I'll hold you to that," he said. "Just make sure you get enough sleep."

"Was there anything else you wanted to ask?"

Roxas had to pause for a moment. There wasn't really a lot to tell about him, aside from the Organization stuff. There was Twilight Town, but that life was fake, even if Roxas wanted to hold on to it.

"Yeah, Axel's my friend, my best friend," Roxas clarified, "He was the one who found me, and then taught me stuff when I was still a zombie. I remember that everyday when we finished a mission, we would sit on the clock tower in Twilight Town and eat ice cream."

And then he left the Organization and things went sour. Roxas sighed, wishing he could have done things over, and made up with Axel.

"I think hanging out on the clock tower was more fun than the actual missions. The missions were mostly just going out to collect hearts in the different worlds, or to scout them out. That was really about it, but it was something to do."

Roxas felt like there was something missing, but he really wasn't sure what. His memories from his time in the Organization were starting to clear up, but some were still just fuzzy.

Oh Sora....

"I guess...I didn't really have a lot of friends until coming here."

Axel was definitely his closest friend. Some of the other Organization members seemed to like him, like Demyx, but most seemed to just tolerate him. He couldn't really count Hayner, Pence, or Olette, since they were all digital. The real ones probably had no idea who he was.

He survived mostly on his own strength though.

"Yeah...I guess."

Roxas sometimes ended up wondering about his memories. He didn't think he could trust them all that much. Considering he'd just regained them before coming here.

"When you were here before, you said that we did meet, but it seems like it happened a lot later," Roxas said. "I think it's good that we get to meet like this to."

Roxas paused, thinking about Sora's suggestion. If they could figure that out, it would, it would be exactly what he wanted. A chance for them to keep being like this. Two separate people.

Granted, Roxas didn't really have any desire to go back to his world, unless not merging became an option and a guaranteed one at that. It hadn't been something he'd worried about here because of the lack of powers.

"Yeah, maybe. If we could, I'd like that. But for now, I'm alright just being as we are."

[identity profile] seasalttwilight.livejournal.com 2010-11-03 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, as friends," Roxas agreed. He wanted to be friends with Sora, had wanted to since he'd started having the dreams about him.

"Was there anything else?"

[identity profile] seasalttwilight.livejournal.com 2010-11-03 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Alright," Roxas said, before pausing. He wasn't really sure what he wanted to do. He wasn't entirely comfortable joining everyone else, since he still saw himself as an outsider. He didn't really want to intrude on their friendships.

"Uh, if you want to go on, you can. I think I'm just going to train for a bit," he said finally. He felt like he needed time to think.
