Log:
A pair of deep, enormous red eyes sat in front of the receptionist and stared, intensely.

The receptionist pursed her lips and frowned, staring back through a pair of horn-rimmed glasses.

Claudy's enormously fluffy feet were reflected neatly on the glossy countertop, as were the wickedly-sharp talons that stuck out of them.

Those were the main things keeping the unfortunate receptionist on duty from shooing the owl Pokemon, although the beak wasn't much of an incentive, either.

"Um... young lady," she said hesitantly, trying to lean around the large bird, her chair creaking. "The lobby is intended to be a space for EVERYBODY..."

"And it still IS a space for everybody," Heather said, unloading a shoulderful of soft, folded blankets onto one of the lobby's sofas and dusting her hands off. Several other blankets had already been partially tied up over the back of the couch and stretched out to attach at the corners to rows of chairs that were painstakingly arranged in aesthetically-pleasing, tunnel-wall-like patterns. There were also the beginnings of several pillow-built barricades, and even some large cardboard boxes standing by on reserve, should the pillows run out before construction was complete. "It's just a COOLER space for everybody."

The receptionist's frown grew and she sighed, rubbing her temples and trying to ignore the Noctowl's unblinking stare. She was fairly certain that it had been placed there SOLELY to distract her from stopping the construction of 'New Lobby'-- and it was doing a fairly good job.

Why did the difficult visitors ALWAYS come downstairs while SHE was on desk duty?

Meanwhile, the wind howled outside, piling snow against the glass doors to the outside and plastering against the windows-- not that there was much to see out there, besides flying snow. It blotted out even the rest of the city's lights, which normally lit up the plaza outside like daylight even after dusk.

"Miss, I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to take all that down," she said for the fifth time in the past half-hour, and as usual, she was completely ignored as the scruffy blond girl tied a few more blankets up (with some difficulty due to her bandaged hands).

Biting her lip, she started to stand up.

Maybe if she just went over and started... taking all the blankets down herself--

And then suddenly, there was a low mooooooan of electricity deciding spontaneously that life wasn't worth it anymore and turning itself off.

The lights went out.

Silence reigned in the lobby.

.... for about five seconds.

"Oh my goodness..."

"WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED--"

AND THEN KEN WAS STUCK IN THE ELEVATOR

He had been halfway down the stairs between the first and second floors.

Now, he was at the bottom of them, thanks to stepping on Kirby's tail and being pitched down the rest of the flight. Rubbing the back of his now-throbbing head, he scratched the Growlithe behind the ear, muttering apologies. It took him a moment to do a headcount, making sure Nemesis and Hermes were still with him, as well.

Finally, he groped his way to the exit of the stairwell, making his way into the lobby. His voice was barely audible over the commotion. "U-Um... h-hello? What's going on?"

... "... You'd think a place like this would have back up generators or something..."

MILES CAN'T DERP FOR ALL HE'S WORTH

[personal profile] miniworth 2010-12-20 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
A few times, people had asked him why he kept walking up and down the six flights of stairs to his hotel room. There was a perfectly functioning elevator, and... really -- it couldn't be just for exercise.

Each time, Miles had simply shaken his head and continued on his way-- and he was, as usual, walking down the stairs today. He was supposed to meet up with his friend, and Phoenix had mentioned that Kay and Kaito would be arriving in Goldenrod today. Not to mention Heather hinted that he should come downstairs to the lobby sometime to see something interesting.

And so, here he was, hopping off the last step of the stairs into the lobby, his eyebrows shooting up when he noticed the mess of blankets there, the exasperated woman at the front desk.. and Heather's blond head poking out from the "fort" she had made. So this was her.. interesting thing.

With an amused sort of "snerk," he starts making his way over to her. One he was close enough, he opens his mouth to speak:

"Miss Hea--"

And then, the lights went out. Silence fell in the room for a few seconds, and in the meanwhile, silence fell in Miles' mind as well. When the panic ensued, he didn't hear it, all that registered in his mind was--

The ground was shaking.

He couldn't breathe, the earth was trembling, it was cold and dark and shadows were moving in the darkness: was that Yanni Yogi strangling his father again...?

"Oh.. God..."

Feeling sick to his stomach, Miles collapses onto the floor where he was standing, curling into a ball.

Gdmit blackouts.

/Machi isn't scared of the dark. OR IS HE.

[identity profile] pollyanna-boy.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
It'd been a pretty calm day, all things considered. But, it was a bit too cold for Machi. Thus, he had been walking down to the lobby, his Golbat following him, to get more blankets for his room. What can you say, he doesn't wanna use too much power. On his back, he'd strapped his keytar in. Like hell he'd be leaving that thing behind -- even if Lammy was the only other person in his room, he didn't wanna take any chances.

And then the power went out. Machi froze up, before he heard the squeaking of his Golbat. "...Nightmare?" he asked the bat, and it started to slowly fly down the stairs, waiting for Machi to follow before going further. It was helping him down? That was... handy.

So, soon, Machi was in the lobby, semi-holding onto his bat-like Pokemon to prevent his stumbling around. "Um... hello?" he asked, trying to avoid the noise of all the other panic. "What... is going on...?" he said, slightly raising his voice. He was scared, to be honest. And he'd left most of his 'protection' in his room.

It wasn't a big secret that Tulio didn't particularly like this world. Though he'd reluctantly made peace with it, there was no way he'd ever get used to it - these creatures, for one, the idea that paper is money, but one of the most important aspects of the insanity everyone kept wanting to call a world, were the magical fires.

You know the ones that shone with a white light from inside these glass ... containers ... but they never flickered and weren't even particularly warm. And they were everywhere, and they never burned out.

So when they unexpedtedly did - and not just one, but all of them, and left the entire hotel building in darkness, Tulio lost his bearings juuuuust a little.

He stopped what he was doing immediately (and what he was doing was to scour the place for eventual victims they could scam and/or pickpocket) in order to stand perfectly still and try to get used to the darkness. He wouldn't admit it if anyone asked, but he felt a bit scared.

"Miguel? Envy?"

He hissed their names under his breath, trying to relocate them by reaching out - tentatively, like the darkness might grow fangs and bite his hands off.

Kay had been looking forward to getting to the hotel and unceremoniously crashing on something warm and fluffy. Warm and fluffy trumped cold and biting anytime, especially when she of the California temperatures had to endure something straight out of Johan's school environment. None of her Pokémon were willing to brave the cold, either, save for Prise the Espeon-- but she'd eventually recalled him. He needed to be nice and warm when she inevitably cuddled with him, after all.

But they'd made it. The whole group, covered in snow, had made the arduous trek from Violet to Goldenrod, and the Yatagarasu's successor stepped into the lobby.

... Just as the lights went out, the shrieking startled her into shrieking and jumping herself, and she tripped over a stray piece of luggage and hit the floor with a speed firefighters would have been proud of.

Well, at least she'd gotten the "unceremoniously crashing" part of her plan down.

Wasn't this turn of events interesting?

While she had been in Goldenrod for some time no, Dahlia had decided to keep a very, very low profile in order to avoid anyone who might wish her harm. So far, her time in Goldenrod had been generally uneventful and Dahlia was able to settle in easily and plot her revenge against Phoenix Wright (who she had seen from a distance more than once during her stay).

When the lights of the hotel went dark and the sounds of distressed people could be heard from the lobby. Dahlia was in the hallway, making her way back to her room when the lights when out. She paused in the hallway for a moment, before a small smile appeared on her face. Now that it was dark, it would be much easier to walk around the hotel without people recognizing her. And, as long as she was quiet and careful around certain people, no one would think she was up to anything.

Turning around back to the staircase, Dahlia made her way down to the lobby to scope out just who was stuck here. She would use every moment of this blackout to her advantage.

Rika had been heading up the stairs to her room, which she was looking forward to. She'd be able to lay down in her warm bed, able to ignore the bitter cold that was just beyond the walls. However, just as she set her foot on the first step that led from the second to the third floor, the entire hotel became dark. Rika froze in place, her hand clenching the railing. Did the power really just go out? Rika grimaced in irritation. It was cold now, but without any heat it was bound to get worse.

Deciding that it going to her room would make her any warmer, Rika decided to turn back around and head back into the lobby. She noticed that there was some beginnings of a fort being made when she first walked in, but decided to bypass investigation due to her exhaustion and need for warmth. Now, though, all those blankets and pillows piled on top of eachother sounded much warmer than her cold, powerless room.

By now her eyes had adjusted to the dark somewhat, which made it much easier for her as she began to descend the stairs. However, she walked down slowly, making sure that she wouldn't fall. Finally, Rika reached the lobby.

In which Artemis curses himself for not getting a fire Pokémon

[identity profile] usednastyplot.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
Artemis had not been doing anything particularly light-based when the power had gone out, just trying to exit his room and make his way downstairs.

As he locked his door he was plunged into darkness. The sudden change from brightly lit hallway to blackout corridor meant the cells in his retina were nowhere near ready for use in the dark and he had to completely stop, as if fearing a single movement during this temporary sense of blindness could result in an injury.

Sighing irritably, Artemis waited for the rod cells within his eyes to begin working properly, using the time to debate re-entering his room and waiting out the blackout, or attempting to go down the stairs to learn more.

Now that he could make out the area around him to some vague degree, Artemis decided on the latter option and started cautiously forward, scanning the walls for the indent that indicated the stairway.

What he really should have been more focused on was the floor. As Diana, possessing much better night vision than her human companion, had begun trotting forward alot more confidently.

This mismatched way of walking ultimately lead to Pokémon becoming tangled in the teens legs, causing him to go flying face first into the closest wall.

He stumbled back, gripping his nose and hissing in pain, taking calming breaths to refrain from an outburst.

Why was it always his nose?

Resisting the overwhelming urge to hiss threatening words to Diana, Artemis rubbed his tender nose and set out again on his quest for the stairs.

Thank God the blackout meant nobody saw that.

During this time of the year, Cocona made sure to carry two Pokemon with her: her Pikachu and Vulpix. She would carry Vulpix in her arms and Pikachu on her shoulder, despite how those two always seemed to be quarreling. No matter where she went in the hotel, those two would always keep her company. Besides, it was good for helping with arm strength and endurance.

Now she was glad they were here with her.

She had recently eaten, so she was not hungry, but the sudden darkness surprised her like it would any other child. Cocona was about to head to the stairwell, but she took a misstep and tripped. She was about to spin her body to avoid faceplanting to the ground, but she was too close to the wall, so she hit her head on that instead.

"Ow..." She mumbled, earning several whimpers from her Pokemon. "Oh well." She sighed and put her right hand over her own eyes. Why? Well...

"Kuro, use Flash!"

Ding! Pikachu's tail lit up as if it was like a nightlight, not blinding Cocona in the process.

Amidst the darkness and panicking, there was a bear. In the lobby. Not a regular looking bear, no, but a blue-coloured one, whom was looking around the now pitch-black room with interest.

"Darkness... hmhm," he hummed to himself, after the initial freak-out of OH MY GOD WHERE DID THE LIGHTS GO was gone. It was time for... adventure! A midnight meeting in the dark! Cuddling!

And so Teddie was off, hands out in front of him as he groped the air, looking for all those aforementioned things.

Was he tripping? Yes. Was he going to bump into anyone as blind as him? Surprise them when they register the fact that, holy crap, there is a bear in the goddamn lobby in the dark.

Probably.

*WELP. Someone was in the kitchen when this happened, luckily his skill with a knife prevented any disasters from happening. Instead, he is now wandering the halls of the hotel, flashlight in one hand, a tray of hot chocolate balanced in the other. Try not to actually bump into him if you spot him. You might get your face coated in delicious face-melting chocolate.*

*Also? There is a Magneton and a Banette shadowing him, the former helping to the light the area around him with a continuous electric glow, the latter just... being her usual invisible ghostly self, showing only her bright red eyes and creepy zipper smile.*

Haaaa... You'd think this would have happened sooner...

Well, that had been a rather refreshing afternoon nap. Especially because it was the first time in about a week that Rose had let him. Not that he'd had the greatest dream ever, but hey. His dreams usually weren't that great anyway.

"Probably about time to go get something to eat," Ryner muttered to himself as he stretched his arms and pulled himself out of his nice, warm, comfy bed. He immediately noticed that it was slightly more chilly in the building than it usually was, but decided to dismiss it as him just wanting to sleep longer. Which he did. He always did.

He was just also kind of hungry, and the other three probably were too, so that came first. Which involved going downstairs.

He pulled on his cloak (he wouldn't usually bother, since he wasn't planning on leaving the building, but it was a little chilly) and headed out the door. As he opened it, he was greeted to a bit of a surprise.

"...Huh. The hallway's dark."

In Roland, there is magical illumination that one can use in order to light a room that you're in. But Ryner rarely bothers, mostly because it's a pain to actually bother to use it, and if he can't see with natural light or candles, well, then it's probably not worth doing whatever it is at that time in the first place. Sleeping? Why would he need light when he was sleeping? So it's not like he'd had any of the lights on in his room during today's afternoon nap.

The hallway, however... Not that it really bothered him, since it's not like he doesn't know how to move in low light situations, but it was surprising, considering that that light tended to be always on, even at noon.

After a moment, however, he shrugged his shoulders before starting down the hallway toward the stairs (sticking a little bit closer to the wall than he usually might simply because it was so hard to see). It was only two floors down to the lounge. He could deal with a little darkness.

Post-beginning of the blackout shenanigans, Kaito was still in the lobby, still bundled up in his jacket, ear-warming headband, gloves, and scarf (that Biz had deemed as his own personal blanket and had buried himself into as the temperature in the inn closely plummeted), and still grumbling irritatedly to himself as he plopped down on the nearest couch. By now, his vision had adjusted to the dark, but since the power had gone out and the system for assigning new guests rooms was offline, the (obviously stressed) desk receptionists had asked everyone waiting to check in to wait until they could sort things out.

This, of course, meant that poor Kaito had nowhere to go for the time being. And considering how cold, exhausted, and miserable he was... that wasn't a good thing.

With a sigh, the magician laid his bag on the ground next to the couch he had commandeered and stretched out haphazardly on his new bed, head resting against one of the arm rests and leg hanging over the edge. Biz poked his head out from underneath the scarf and let out a small cry, before scurrying back into the warmth of the fabric.

There were a lot of reasons why people should be scared of the dark.

For one thing, it was really hard to see. Being constantly surrounded by homicidal maniacs and the like, Phoenix had always been quite fond of being able to see what was around him, thank you very much.

Secondly, you had the possibility of Tripping to Your Death. Not that Phoenix was every very agile in the first place, but the surroundings-lack-thereof certainly didn't make walking any easier.

Third, the Dark was lonely. Phoenix didn't like being alone, and coming hand-in-hand with not being able to see his surroundings...he didn't like not being able to see others, as well.

And, well. Fourth.

...fourth.

Circumstantial as it was, having a crazy, murderous ex-girlfriend wandering around in the same hotel as you didn't exactly help, either.

So, when the lights had gone out and Phoenix had been left alone in a room with only dozing Pokémon and his Pokégear's LCD screen for company? He obviously did the mature thing and began to panic.

"Wh--"

A quick run to the door, clumsily unlocking the chain and peering otuside -- it was dark in the hall, too, and he could hear the wails and cries of the other occupants of the hotel as they realized that yes, indeed, the poer had gone out.

...well.

Slowly, carefully, he pushed the door shut, his hands beginning to shake as he, even more clumsily, tried to re-latch the door. Failing at this, he settled for stumbling backwards, and hit the edge of the bed. Phoenix almost involuntarily sank into it, still trying to fight the well of panic cresting somewhere in his mid-abdomen.

He really, really didn't need this right now.

You really know how to make the holidays special, don't you, Johto? was what his mind was shouting, shaking its fist at the sky, but all he could manage out loud was a rather pathetic sounding whimper.

Obviously, someone needs give him a call to see how he's doing, since he's not collectively panicking outside with everyone else. Or, maybe someone will notice that his door is unlocked...

Roxas had been hanging out in his room, idly listening to the radio on the pokegear. He always caught Professor Oak's show, wanting to learn more and more about pokemon. If he was going to be the champion, he should probably know a lot. At least, that's what Roxas figured.

The power outage was a shock. Roxas found himself in the dark with a silent radio. It was kind of scary. It wasn't that Roxas was afraid of the dark, really, he'd become used to it. It was just the sudden absence of light, and the feeling that he was alone. At least until Sparky jumped on his back.

Still, he didn't want to stay in his room, and began to grope for the door. Poking his head out, he glanced around. The whole hotel was dark, and it was a creepy, silent sort of dark. Not the kind of dark he liked.

"Lights on, Sparky," he commanded, and the pikachu started to emit a faint glow. He left his room, closing the door behind him. Hopefully, there were other people in the hotel. Even if he didn't talk to them, to know there were others would be nice.

Great... Shinichi had only just gotten inside as well, having met up with Kuroba's group half way to Goldenrod, and ended up getting caught in the blizzard too.

Now he was also cold and miserable, and he might be coming down with something. He'd hoped things would be better at the hotel, but then this happened. At least he had Doyle.

The two of them huddled in his corner in the lobby as he tried not to sneeze.

Well, that kind of sucked.

Snake immediately dug through his inventory, but realized that he just didn't have any NV Goggles, and he had a feeling that he probably wouldn't find any here. Instead, he whistled for Mk III, who was emitting a low enough level of electricity to become something of a handy light source for the old soldier.

"Hn. I guess the weather was too much for the power." Snake spoke idly to himself, descending some stairs... No point in trying to use the elevator now, anyway. Mk III followed, peering about the darkened hotel.

Eventually, David entered the lobby, only to stop once he reached a ton of blankets and pillows... Were those boxes? He thought about adding more to his inventory, but he notes the presence of others in the room.

[identity profile] shellderkillder.livejournal.com 2010-12-20 10:44 am (UTC)(link)
Was he feeling uncharacteristically grouchy? Perhaps. Then again, he had a number of reasons to be feeling so. Being thrown into another city without warning and thus having to scrap a carefully planned trip? Okay, he supposed it could happen. He could bear it. Being stuck in bed with a cold for a week due to his own carelessness? A bit harder to bear, especially since he could be blamed for it. A blizzard storm beginning right when he recovers? Not his fault in any way, but it's just about too much.

And he didn't even have any equipment he could perform maintenance on to keep his mind off of it.

Thus, he was taking what must have been his third lap around the hotel that day - since he couldn't very well go jogging in this weather, he might as well stretch his legs somehow - when everything went dark, prompting his sharp instincts (in severe need of something to do) to come into play, making him instantly back up against a wall.

How silly of him, he first thought. Was this a sign of how homesick he really was?

But then he remembered - there were dangerous people in Johto, many of which were doubtlessly in Goldenrod too (why, Dahlia Hawthorne was in the very same building, and as inexperienced as she looks, she may still pose a threat to the even less experienced), and they could doubtlessly use the darkness to cover up their deeds.

In the conventional sense of the word, he was unarmed.

But instincts - and talent - knew better than that. He only had to look around, and he would find himself armed to the teeth.
