Log:
A pair of deep, enormous red eyes sat in front of the receptionist and stared, intensely.

The receptionist pursed her lips and frowned, staring back through a pair of horn-rimmed glasses.

Claudy's enormously fluffy feet were reflected neatly on the glossy countertop, as were the wickedly-sharp talons that stuck out of them.

Those were the main things keeping the unfortunate receptionist on duty from shooing the owl Pokemon, although the beak wasn't much of an incentive, either.

"Um... young lady," she said hesitantly, trying to lean around the large bird, her chair creaking. "The lobby is intended to be a space for EVERYBODY..."

"And it still IS a space for everybody," Heather said, unloading a shoulderful of soft, folded blankets onto one of the lobby's sofas and dusting her hands off. Several other blankets had already been partially tied up over the back of the couch and stretched out to attach at the corners to rows of chairs that were painstakingly arranged in aesthetically-pleasing, tunnel-wall-like patterns. There were also the beginnings of several pillow-built barricades, and even some large cardboard boxes standing by on reserve, should the pillows run out before construction was complete. "It's just a COOLER space for everybody."

The receptionist's frown grew and she sighed, rubbing her temples and trying to ignore the Noctowl's unblinking stare. She was fairly certain that it had been placed there SOLELY to distract her from stopping the construction of 'New Lobby'-- and it was doing a fairly good job.

Why did the difficult visitors ALWAYS come downstairs while SHE was on desk duty?

Meanwhile, the wind howled outside, piling snow against the glass doors to the outside and plastering against the windows-- not that there was much to see out there, besides flying snow. It blotted out even the rest of the city's lights, which normally lit up the plaza outside like daylight even after dusk.

"Miss, I'm afraid I'll have to ask you to take all that down," she said for the fifth time in the past half-hour, and as usual, she was completely ignored as the scruffy blond girl tied a few more blankets up (with some difficulty due to her bandaged hands).

Biting her lip, she started to stand up.

Maybe if she just went over and started... taking all the blankets down herself--

And then suddenly, there was a low mooooooan of electricity deciding spontaneously that life wasn't worth it anymore and turning itself off.

The lights went out.

Silence reigned in the lobby.

.... for about five seconds.

"Oh my goodness..."

"WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED--"

"/OLD WOMAN OWL SCREAM"

[Feel free to make your own threads! They can be down in the lobby, they can be up in the rooms, they can be anywhere! Is your character in the bathroom plucking their eyebrows when the lights go out? WE WANNA HEAR ABOUT IT, SO GO FOR IT. Are they falling down the stairs? POST THAT SHIT.]

[Threadhopping/jacking is totally encouraged, so TAG AROUND TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT, MY DUDES. If your own thread isn't getting replies right away, go ahead and jump in somewhere else! Look out for other characters in the same areas as yours-- lobby, hallways, staircases, etc! Have fun!]

Kay is apparently collecting little AA boys today

Definitely not dead. Just cold. And maybe a little sore. And currently getting her face cleaned by a Growlithe puppy.

That in itself made everything else worth it, earning a shaky laugh from the downed girl as she pushed herself up a little more and rubbed Pip's head reassuringly. "I'm okay, I'm okay... whoa, Miles?"

... Who was staring at her like she'd risen from the dead-- once she could actually make out his expression. That took a few more minutes of staring.

A lot of people on Route are collecting little boys. :|a

Pip gives Kay a yip! -- Good to see you aren't hurt! -- before he spins around and scampers back over to Miles, who is more or less frozen on the spot. Until Kay says his name, and he seems to snap out of it just a little. He was sure he recognized that vice, especially considering that she was the reason he was down here anyway...

".....Miss Kay?"

"The one and only, no impersonators allowed!" Well, the cold and the blackout definitely hadn't dampened Kay's spirits-- they hadn't even so much as prodded them, if the cheeriness of her tone was any indication. Finally getting to see Miles (even if the one she'd known was taller and much older than her) helped contribute to her happiness, though she wasn't sure why he looked so scared.

"Why are you all the way over there, anyway?"

"I--I--...."

Well, at least he wasn't seeing things anymore, visions of Yanni Yogi strangling his father fading away now that the initial shock of sudden darkness wasn't plaguing him as much. But he's still trembling like a leaf as he shakes his head, still unable to pick himself up off the floor.

But not wanting to worry Kay, he just mutters, "I don't like the dark..."

Well, he had to hope she'll take the excuse.

Yes... and no. The normally nosy and inquisitive Kay Faraday suspected there was more to it than that, but even she knew when it was time to be nosy and when it was time to keep one's nose out of... further nosing. This was one of the latter times, she felt, so she didn't question it.

She did move over to his side, though, plopping down and hauling him into her lap without so much as a warning. She hadn't had too much experience with watching over younger kids, but she remembered how she hadn't liked to be alone when she'd been scared. Even this future prosecutor could have felt the same way.

"It's not so bad," she told him lightly. "Not when you've got company, right?"

Suddenly being hauled on to Kay's lap causes him to flail, surprised and slightly flustered-- but he calms down soon enough, and he's grateful for her tact. Peering up at her, he shakes his head.

"...No, it's not."

"Thought so!" There was no trace of smugness to it, just Kay's usual glee, and she grinned back at him. "Freezing and dark parts aside, it's really good to see you! It was a long, hard road, but we made it in just in time! Just like the Jammin' Ninja did in the third season when Princess Misola got abducted to that snowy country..."

Kay, now was not the time to be reminiscing about musical ninja TV stars.

He blinks. And he blinks again as he hopes to dear god that he wasn't forgetting something oh so important by not understanding what Kay was harping about.

"....What is that? A- a Jammin'....." Is he as sheltered as Pearly? ...Maybe, maybe so. Doesn't help that he comes from a time before that show was even aired.

"Jammin' Ninja." About to get HORRIDLY AFFRONTED, Kay abruptly remembered that the show hadn't actually existed around his time. She'd been older than he was when she'd first seen it, anyway. "He's this TV star who's actually not that good of a ninja, but his real weapon is his voice and the music he makes! He's the best!"

"....He fights with his voice?" Does he, like, shout in his enemy's ears or something? Miles is absolutely confused, but he's also intrigued! Superheroes, saving the day. As much as he would have never admitted it to Phoenix and Larry back home, nothing awed him more than superheroes (and his father).
