It was a crisp, clear January morning when Nanao padded down to the beach, fully intending to make good on her promise to help teach Toothless to speak. Kiyone waddled beside her, just enjoying being outside in the daytime. Sure, they'd been sneaking out at night for the last couple of days, catching and battling Magikarp at the beach, or venturing back into the grass near the entrances of Cherrygrove to train, but it was nice to feel the sunshine on their faces. Isane, Shunsui and Hantarou were resting inside their Pokeballs, tucked up inside the secret pockets of Nanao's shihakushou's sleeves, and she carried in her hands her notebook, pen, and Pokegear.

Finding a comfortable-looking rock, she brushed the sand from it, and sat down, happy to wait.
