Where: Goldenrod National Park
When: Early afternoon
Summary: After their respective run-ins with the Joker, Merlin and Heather had planned to practice battling together. They're finally making good on that promise now.
Rating: PG?
Log:
The Goldenrod residents hadn't been kidding when they said the park was huge. Merlin's eyes widened as he took in the neat rows of benches and the carefully kept flowers around him. While the city, with its bright, flashing lights and tall buildings, was a wonder in itself, it only reminded Merlin how much he missed nature.
After a moment of simply absorbing the serenity of the place, he found a bench under a good amount of shade and sat. Cius, his Riolu, scampered up onto the bench after him as he released the rest of his party. "The battle isn't starting yet, but that doesn't mean you can't take a look around while we wait for Heather."

"Oh," Heather mumbled under her breath as she passed.
PokeGear in hand, she double-checked the time that the meeting was supposed to take place-- okay, he should be here by now th-- OH. There he was.
"YO!" she called, lifting a leather-gloved hand and waving to him as she approached.

The Riolu ran up to Heather with a happy "Wan!", Merlin following him with a laugh. "I might have made a mistake telling my team we'd be having a battle with you. Cius hasn't been able to sit still at all."

She came to a halt as the little blue jackal-thing came bounding up to her.
"Never seen one of HIM before."
She hefts her bag, grinning. None of her Pokemon are out of their Balls yet, but they're snugly tucked into the pockets of the pack.

"You haven't?" Merlin said with surprise. He looked down at his Riolu, who stared back questioningly. "Rise said she's seen a few of them around after Yu--erm. Christmas, I mean."

He was pretty cute, though!
Looked sort of doglike, but the fact that he was so... anthropomorphic automatically made him a little less likely to set off Heather's ohsnapdogs mode.

Shifting to accommodate the pokemon's weight, Merlin nodded to his scattered team. "Would you mind if they watched even when it's not their turn?"

She tugged her bag open and started fishing around for Pokeballs. There were a few she definitely wasn't planning on using... Godzilla and Alessa weren't anywhere near battleworthy yet, for one thing...

"What are the rules?"
IT'S OKAY I'VE BEEN SO BAD AT KEEPING UP.
She hadn't thought about this much beforehand.
"... Best two outta three?"
Tossing a Pokeball from hand to hand idly, she set her bag down and nudged it to the side where it wouldn't be in the way.
lkjsadf lol do you want to turn this into an action log if that'll go faster?
Hearing an impatient whine, he just shook his head in amusement. "All right. You want to go first, Cius?"
His Riolu whuffled in agreement and practically rushed out to the space between the two trainers.
XDDD If you want, that's fine. <3
She'd just... refrain from using her stronger Pokemon on it. Sorry, Arty. You don't get to go first.
"All right..."
Pulling a ball out of her bag, she took a few steps back before tossing it up in the air. In a flash of light, a still-knobbly-kneed Ponyta appeared.
"Carousel's only fought wild Pokemon so far. Gotta break the shoes in somehow, right?"
XDD
At Cius' indignant yelp in his direction, Merlin sighed. "It's true, you haven't," He said firmly, turning to Heather again. "I normally wouldn't send out a pokemon when they're this low-leveled, but knowing him, he'd sulk for hours if I didn't let him at least participate."
no subject
The Ponyta definitely still had that gangly foal look.

Tilting his head, he examined the Ponyta with a small smile. "My Ponyta used to look like that, too. If Carousel's a lower level, it should be fine."

Shaking her head with a whicker, the filly stepped forward and stretched her neck out to sniff Merlin's hand. Though she too was a fire Pokemon, she didn't seem anywhere near as... well, to put it bluntly, stupid as Cujo.
