// and if you call, I will answer
Who: Hal Emmerich and ~open~
Where: Goldenrod City
When: Afternoon of March 16th
Summary: Coffee and discussions over coffee.
Rating: gonna roll with a T just to be safe.
Log:
Hal Emmerich didn't have an ordinary sleeping pattern. In fact, he'd had no such thing since he was about eighteen years old. Like many eccentric geniuses, he functioned mainly due to an amount of caffeine that would keep an entire army wired for days.
Lately, he'd taken to spending some time in a cafe near the hotel--it was quiet there, something he rather enjoyed. When one traveled with Liquid Snake, peace and quiet weren't often part of the deal. Ordinarily it didn't bother him, but the occasional break was nice. Otacon sat at a table with a cup of coffee in front of him and half a sandwich in his hand--the other half had been stolen and was currently being devoured by his Arbok, Kotai Of The Infinite Stomach.
"Between you and Liquid, I don't know who's going to drive me crazy first." he remarked with a sigh. At his side, the eleven foot cobra simply nuzzled her trainer's head in response.

So it was quite fortuitous that Kiyone had spotted the cafe when Nanao's knees began to buckle, promptly steering his Trainer into the nearest available seat - which just so happened to be one table over from Otacon. After brushing a claw gently against her forehead, he left her alone and walked over to the counter.
"It may not have been the wisest idea, but at least I'm out of that damn Pokemon Centre." she muttered, and slumped down further into the pink floral haori that she wore, pale face gleaming with perspiration.

Otacon glanced over at Nanao, a concerned look on his face. She obviously didn't look well, so maybe he should ask and make sure nothing was wrong.
While he was considering it, Kotai proceeded to eat the other half of her Trainer's sandwich. He gave the Arbok a look about as threatening as a Clefairy's death glare before brushing the incident off and looking back at Nanao.
"U-uh...I'm sorry to bother you, but are you feeling okay?"
Re: :Db
"As a matter of fact, no, not particularly. The walk I had didn't help much either." Something purple caught her eye, and she looked down to see a very large purple snake. One eyebrow raised slowly, and she looked back over at Otacon.
"I presume that you're a trainer, then."
Re: :Db
"What's wrong? Is there anything I can do to help?"
C:
"It's, ah, well. I woke up not too long ago... If you get my drift." Another weak smile. "Somehow I think that trying to escape the nurses wasn't quite worth it."
no subject
"It's nice to meet you too." he answered, taking a drink of his coffee. "Woke up...y-you mean you went home like everyone else I keep hearing about?"
no subject
Kiyone toddled back over, and plonked himself down on the chair opposite her, and took a long, appraising look at the cobra. What you be doing, snake?
"Yes. And it wasn't pleasant at all. If you can find some way to avoid it, do." She doesn't sound angry about it, merely extraordinarily weary.
no subject
"Believe me, I'm not exactly in a rush to get home myself." He adjusted his glasses again, this time more out of habit than necessity.
no subject
"I had just been getting used to being here, too, and then to be pulled away from it all..." Nanao pushed up her glasses, and pulled the haori closer around herself.
The waiter walked over then with two cups of hot chocolate, and put them both down in front of Nanao. She smiled at him, and waited until he walked away before pushing one of them over to Kiyone.
"Otacon... A codename, correct?" she said, and took a sip of her hot chocolate, sighing happily as it warmed her.

His hands fidgeted slightly before settling around his cup of coffee again.
"That's right. Most people in Johto just call me Hal, though--Hal Emmerich."
no subject
"Hal Emmerich... Doesn't sound a bell, but with all the multiple worlds, I suppose it's no big deal."

A heavy sigh. "It doesn't matter anyway - they're all still greenhorns, lambs to the slaughter."

He was feeling tired that morning as he walked into the cafe. He'd found it only recently, but they had fine coffee (not as good as the Double R's, but he might just be a bit sentimental regarding that) and a quiet atmosphere and that was more than enough for him.
Spotting a free table wasn't difficult, but he got distracted by the huge cobra pokémon. Recognizing the person next to it, he couldn't help but feel amused.
"I don't think something of that kind would ever had been allowed at a place like this back where I'm from", he said, having approached but kept a polite distance, eyebrows raised and half a smile hinted at.
Distractions are good.

"You can sit down if you want, she's honestly harmless." he continued, smiling.

"Can't say I've seen one of those before. The evolved form of Ekans, isn't it?"
He kept his eyes on the snake, not without some apprehension, but mostly because of interest. Cooper had quickly learnt that the creatures here weren't as big or malicious as they might appear.

And she was eating the other half of Otacon's sandwich. The engineer sighed, now-empty hand going to his head.
"--...and she's kind of a pain sometimes."
no subject
"The stubborn type that doesn't seem to respond to being reprimanded?"
no subject
He laughed, taking another drink of his coffee.
"S-so how've you been?"
no subject
Honestly, he was a little surprised at being asked, considering he didn't actually know this man, but he did suppose it was just part of the social niceities.
"Largely, I've been well. Life is at a slow pace here."
Taking a moment after that to get the attention of a waiter and order a coffee, it was a moment before he returned the question.
"And you?"
no subject
"It's pretty much the same for me. It's good to be somewhere quiet for a change."
Particularly where he wouldn't be running from authorities exactly like the one he was now talking to.
Funny little world, really.
no subject
"I know what you mean. I try to think of this as some sort of vacation."
Which, at first, was easy. Since then, there's been the strange occurences and worrying activities, but all in all, Cooper would still admit to have taken a major liking to Johto.
no subject
Calling it a vacation had helped the scientist to stop panicking over what he would be facing when he got home. However, it did little to make him stop thinking about what--rather, who--he'd leave behind when he went home.

He looked at Otacon with some level of curiosity, broken momentarily by the serving of his coffee and the moment he took to thank the waiter for it.

June sounded about right, though now that he gave it some thought it was strange to realize he'd been here so long. It was March now, wasn't it?
