Log:

Usually, Vanitas wouldn't be browsing the town. Then again, usually, Vanitas wouldn't be getting pushed along by his Swablu, grudgingly taking slow steps away from the basement he's been living in for the last week.
Melt snow in an old pot, use Dartanian to make the water warm, it works for a bath. Check. Murkrow and Misdreavus go out and gather food for the Pokemon, and swipe sandwiches and other human necessities from the Monks in the next tower over. Check.

So why did Swablu insist he come out here? Making a bit of a face, Vanitas shoves his hands into his pockets and takes those slow, annoyed steps into the PokeMart nearby. If she seriously pushed him out here to get treats, she will be sorely disappointed; he doesn't have a dime on him.

It hadn't taken Roxas long to get to know the layout of Ecruteak. Once he got to a new town, he usually took to the streets, exploring and learning the locations of things that would be useful to him: the pokemon center, PokeMart, gym, ways out of town, etc. It also helped him to get a feel for the city. The lessons he'd learned about reconnaissance in the Organization served him well here.

After getting settled, Roxas took stock of his items, and it occurred to him that he was starting to run low, especially on potions and other such items. Ones that would be useful in battling, especially if he was going to put his pokemon through some heavy duty training to get their levels up. Which brought him to the PokeMart. He still had a decent amount of money left from working at the Department Store in Goldenrod and winning trainer battles, so he could probably get enough items. He'd also found a few things to sell, so that would help.

Roxas had enough combat instincts to know that someone was behind him as he compared some bags of pokemon food. And he could tell it was someone hostile. Setting one of the bags down, and putting the other in his basket, he turned to see Vanitas. It wasn't entirely unexpected, since Ven had told him that Vanitas was in Ecruteak. Roxas just hadn't expected a meeting this blatent.

"Can I help you?" he said, as casually as he could.

"What of it?"

It was said with a bit of an edge. Roxas knew exactly what Vanitas was referring to and he didn't like it, at all. At the same time, that was probably what Vanitas was going for, so Roxas tried to reign in his emotion.

No worries

"If you say so," Roxas replied with a shrug, selecting one of the bags of food and putting it in the basket with the other things he had collected. He gave it a once over to check and make sure he had everything he intended to buy, before heading to the checkout.

He gave a slight glance back at Vanitas, to check and see what he was doing.

It doesn't take Roxas long to finish paying for his things.

"No, I don't," he says, as he heads towards the door. That was no secret, and one that he tended to make very clear. He was his own person. He didn't want to be compared to Ven.

Roxas stops once he's out of the PokeMart and sighs.

"I don't think we're that similar. So what if we walk the same?" Did anyone watch him walking that closely?

/shut up van

"I'm not the same as him!" Roxas shouts, his hand balling into a fist. He turns quickly with that fist raised to catch Vanitas right in the jaw.

"I'm not some version of you either! I'm me!" Maybe there was a connection between them, but Roxas didn't want to admit it. He knew who he was, and that was what mattered, right?

Roxas hadn't really been ready for any sort of response, considering that his punch really was just a reaction. He ended up taking a few steps back, holding where Vanitas hit.

"Well yeah. I'm not just half of someone like you are," Roxas snapped. Even if he didn't have a heart, he was still part-Sora, with all that that entailed.

Roxas threw a hand up to block the blow, but the force of Vanitas's hit still jarred his hand. He hadn't really expected that kind of strength, but at the same time, it had been a while since he'd fought, rather than his pokemon.

"I'm supposed to be me!" He shouted, hooking his fist at Vanitas's jaw.

Roxas grunted when he landed on the ground, but it didn't take him long to get right back up again and tackle Vanitas around the middle, aiming to knock him down.

"It doesn't change the fact that I'm me!"
