Nanami Chiaki | Super Dangan Ronpa 2 | Wherever's Clever

[personal profile] lullabytes 2013-11-25 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
[ Nanami doesn't have any problems ascertaining where she is. While she might not recognize all the Pokémon due to Route limitations, she's perfectly capable of recognizing the game tropes, many of the locations and NPCs, and the entire first generation of Pokémon. And once she's recognized, that, well...

...dropping a High School Level Gamer in an iconic video game? Isn't likely to upset her or throw her off her stride at all. Rather than wasting time wondering where she is (obviously Pokémon, although the plot seems different - though that just makes it more fun) or what she ought to be doing, Nanami gets down to the business of playing the game.

This mostly means that regardless of zapping to random places, seeing random machines, or meeting people who she oughtn't be able to meet, Nanami seems perfectly content (and, in fact, excited) to get down to the business of being a Pokémon trainer. She can be found on routes tramping around dutifully in the tall grass (and avoiding ledges with a casually blasé air) or in towns, speaking to every NPC (...read: denizen) in sight and attempting to locate the "plot". She might try to challenge gyms if she can grind her team high enough. Periodically she can be found explaining certain "game mechanics" to her Munna or another member of her eclectic team. Or just, you know. Staring off into space as she plans her next move.

Nanami might also be found playing some of the pre-loaded games on the gear, as well as any she might have downloaded or bought. She just can't help herself. The fact that she's super focused on playing Robot Rapidash Attack won't make her unwilling to speak to people who approach, though; at any given time Nanami will be more than willing to speak to anyone who comes up, though she might initially be waiting for some sort of tutorial or side quest. After a bit, she'll adjust her opinion of the place to "Pokémon MMORPG", but she'll still be perfectly content with speaking to anyone who approaches her. ]
styxiedust: penis last night. Just for the record (Curious ✿ I saw a 60 yr old mans)

[A tutorial, no, a curious girl admiring a fellow weird-as-hell hair color bearer? Yes.]

Hello there! What are you up to?

[It seems silly to ask, obviously she's playing Robot Rapidash Attack, only the greatest game with the most fantastically cheesy song Botan's heard since arriving in Johto. But still, how else is anyone going to start a conversation around these parts.]
lullabytes: official game sprite (SMILE ► you go girl)

[personal profile] lullabytes 2013-11-25 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Give her a second. She has to think of what she wants to say, although since Nanami doesn't stop playing her game, it might come off as ignoring Botan for a moment... ]

I'm playing "Robot Rapidash Attack". ...There are a few differences from the game at home, I think. Though, the controls are easy enough.

[ Nanami doesn't exactly look up from the game right away. She'll probably look up after this round, but doesn't sound annoyed in the least about being interrupted. ]

[personal profile] styxiedust 2013-11-25 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I love that game! [And she peers at the screen to check Nanami's score.] Ahhh--you're really good, you've already beaten my high score and--you've just gotten here, haven't you? I don't think I've seen you around.

[In contrast, Botan's a chatterbox and doesn't tend to miss a beat in conversations. This will end well.]
lullabytes: official art (= yes? psp over mouth.)

[personal profile] lullabytes 2013-11-25 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm a Super High-school Level Gamer. [ So, her score is to be expected.

Nanami has to take a second to pause in speaking, not for the game, but rather to compose her words again. ]

...My name is Nanami Chiaki. I'm pretty good at this sort of genre, too.
styxiedust: (Default)

[personal profile] styxiedust 2013-11-26 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Super--? [High school level? How odd, how very odd for schools to not only encourage gaming but reward their students based on it. What sort of school does she go to?]

My name is Botan. [McNoLastName.] Coming here was the first time I've seen video games of this caliber, they're a lot more...[1990s] simple where I'm from. But, Nanami-chan, you have a journey to go on! At least that's what they tell us when we get here.
lullabytes: official art (- too busy gaming for this.)

[personal profile] lullabytes 2013-11-26 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
...It's my talent.

[ Maybe that will be a better explanation. She's not sure how to explain it, otherwise. ]

If you mean my Pokemon journey...I do want to go on that. But I haven't been able to trigger any starting quests so far...
styxiedust: (Default)

[personal profile] styxiedust 2013-11-26 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
[Botan looks around at their environment for a moment, this sure isn't New Bark, so...] I think...because you started here, you didn't meet up with Mom or the Professor, right? They're the ones that give you the information and supplies to start your journey. But how odd, you already have a Pokemon with you, how could you have not met with them to get your starter?
lullabytes: official art (= hands clasped. really?)

[personal profile] lullabytes 2013-11-26 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
...So the game skipped me ahead from the starting town...I see. I guess I'll have to walk back that way, then.

[ Well, she doesn't sound particularly resigned, at least. Games are like that, sometimes. ]

And then I can trigger the rival encounter and errands for the Professor...
styxiedust: Who would you do? (Concern ✿ Ross. Joey. Chandler.)

[personal profile] styxiedust 2013-11-26 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
You sound as if you've done this before.

[--well, she is a gamer, maybe she's experienced it in the games she plays.]

I never ran an errand for the Professor or battled with a "rival" though, I think they just give us the speech plus the supplies and cut us loose to decide things for ourselves.
lullabytes: official game sprite (EXPLAIN ► it might be that)

1/2

[personal profile] lullabytes 2013-11-26 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Well...in some games, it's possible to go further ahead of where you should be. In this case, though...

...it's probably more like starting up someone else's save file. Right?

[ ...It...makes sense to her, when she thinks of it like that, at least. ]
lullabytes: official art (- huff and puff.)

2/2

[personal profile] lullabytes 2013-11-26 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
[ MOVING ON TO MORE IMPORTANT MATTERS, THOUGH. ]

But it's not a Pokémon game without a rival.

[ Well. "Important". ]
styxiedust: (Default)

[personal profile] styxiedust 2013-11-27 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
Hmmmm, well Nanami-chan, that may be so but...there's no real "hero" of this game, it seems. We've all been pulled here to this world from our own, and then set on this journey. I suppose you can go challenge Gym leaders and earn their badges, train your Pokemon to be their strongest? You can teach them all kinds of moves, even breed them with others to make stronger offspring.

[Komaeda just so happens to spot Nanami in Goldenrod City as she speaks to the various NPCs in the area. She's the first person from their world that he's spotted so far, so he's pretty happy to see her! He waits until she finishes her most recent conversation before he approaches her.]

Ah, Nanami-san! You certainly seem to be right at home here! Not surprising, since this world is based off of a video game... Or maybe the game was based off of this world?
lullabytes: official art (= well actually. unsure. talking.)

[personal profile] lullabytes 2013-11-25 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Oh, it's Komaeda-kun...

............

Well, he seems to be in a good mood. And it's not like she dislikes any of her classmates. ]

...I've played the games before. Have you also played Pokémon, Komaeda-kun? [ He seems to recognize the game, after all. ]

As to that...

[ By which she means the possibility of the game being based off of this world. ...Give Nanami a second to pause, considering that deeply.

Because it's, you know, clearly an important matter. ]

...I'm not sure which would be correct. Though I haven't managed to find the game plot. Have you?
supaluck: (pic#6586336)

[personal profile] supaluck 2013-11-25 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, the last thing that Komaeda remembers before suddenly appearing here is being tied up in the lodge, so he is pretty happy to be free, even though he's not entirely sure how he feels about this situation yet.]

I have! It's been a long time since I last played, but I still remember it pretty well, I think.

[Except for all these new Pokemon, but he's pretty sure that they never appeared in the games.]

A plot? Hmm... Not exactly, but I have seen this strange teleporting machine with the Team Rocket logo on the side a few times. I'm sure it must be significant somehow, though I haven't seen any actual Team Rocket members yet.
lullabytes: official art (= well if you ask me. considering.)

[personal profile] lullabytes 2013-11-26 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
[ His last memory is so much nicer than hers, man. Although Nanami actually kind of smiles at the confirmation he'd played the game. Because, you know.

Games are always a good thing, okay. ]

About that...some of these Pokemon seem new, don't you think? [ Or at least apping characters can only know Red and Blue or first generation, so there's that. ] And the locations, too.

...A teleporting machine...if it's that, that's definitely the plot, don't you think? [ She's somehow managed to avoid it up to this point. ] What does it look like? Perhaps we should try to find it.

Ah, have you seen any of the others?

spoiler warning goes here i guess /fully spoiled

[ A lot of things are happening today, it seems. People are coming and going and Naegi's spent the day so far trying not to get caught up in the chaos but of course the Powers That Be have decided that yes, this kid deserves to get zapped halfway across the region for the heck of it.

...That said, Naegi just so happens to end up getting teleported to where Nanami currently is. He briefly looks around, taking in the new location he's in before spotting the girl who's currently playing what sounds like Robot Rapidash Attack. He prefers Tetris, but he sometimes plays RRA when he has nothing else to do and the song has become more or less been permanently etched into his brain. ]

Hey there. [ Naegi says, approaching the girl. He's there, she's there and he figures there's no harm in making some friends during this day of chaos. ]
lullabytes: official art (= startled!)

ditto that!

[personal profile] lullabytes 2013-11-26 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ We do not speak about Tetris these days, Naegi. You're welcome to try, of course, but for some reason it's just not a thing we do. Nanami hadn't exactly deleted the game, since it came preloaded, but...that's the one thing she hasn't bothered to open up and get a high score on, yet.

Maybe sometime. Not right now.

It takes a few moments for her response. Long enough that someone might think she was ignoring them, though that wasn't the case. ]

...Finished.

[ But it's a new high score. That's an acceptable loss. Since the timing works out, she will actually make a daring move and look up at the person talking to her.

..................................

Well, okay. Just...give her a few more moments, here. What's the appropriate response...........? ]

...Hello. I didn't know you were here...
superordinary: (Default)

[personal profile] superordinary 2013-12-01 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
[ For a second, Naegi really thinks he's being ignored and that he should leave her alone. But then she finally speaks up. ]

I hope I'm not bothering you too much, suddenly striking up a conversation like this... You looked preoccupied with your game. Robot Rapidash Attack, right? I recognized the music.
lullabytes: official game sprite (CONSIDER ► let me see)

[personal profile] lullabytes 2013-12-01 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
...It's not a bother at all, though.

[ At least, she doesn't really mind... ]

Mmm-hmm. It's a little different from the game it's based on, but the changes are interesting. ...Ah, I wonder what the "Pokemon" equivalent of "Pokemon" is...?
superordinary: (Default)

[personal profile] superordinary 2013-12-01 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Animals" or something like that, maybe? Or maybe there is no equivalent since you can actually go on a journey here.
lullabytes: official game sprite (HEADTILT ► oh is that so?)

[personal profile] lullabytes 2013-12-01 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
...That's true. Although I haven't triggered a rival encounter yet...

[ Well. She eyes him speculatively. ]

Unless that's you...ah, are we rivals now?
superordinary: (pic#5882422)

[personal profile] superordinary 2013-12-01 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
U-um, no. I'm not your rival. I don't think I'd be a good one...
lullabytes: official art (- engage hood.)

[personal profile] lullabytes 2013-12-01 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Ah...I guess if it's video games, that might be true.

That's not your "talent", is it? ...It's all right. I'll find a rival sometime soon. Probably.

If not, I can focus on the League, right?
