Nanami has to take a second to pause in speaking, not for the game, but rather to compose her words again. ]

Super--? [High school level? How odd, how very odd for schools to not only encourage gaming but reward their students based on it. What sort of school does she go to?]

My name is Botan. [McNoLastName.] Coming here was the first time I've seen video games of this caliber, they're a lot more...[1990s] simple where I'm from. But, Nanami-chan, you have a journey to go on! At least that's what they tell us when we get here.

If you mean my Pokemon journey...I do want to go on that. But I haven't been able to trigger any starting quests so far...

[Botan looks around at their environment for a moment, this sure isn't New Bark, so...] I think...because you started here, you didn't meet up with Mom or the Professor, right? They're the ones that give you the information and supplies to start your journey. But how odd, you already have a Pokemon with you, how could you have not met with them to get your starter?

...So the game skipped me ahead from the starting town...I see. I guess I'll have to walk back that way, then.

[ Well, she doesn't sound particularly resigned, at least. Games are like that, sometimes. ]

And then I can trigger the rival encounter and errands for the Professor...

You sound as if you've done this before.

[--well, she is a gamer, maybe she's experienced it in the games she plays.]

I never ran an errand for the Professor or battled with a "rival" though, I think they just give us the speech plus the supplies and cut us loose to decide things for ourselves.

Well...in some games, it's possible to go further ahead of where you should be. In this case, though...

...it's probably more like starting up someone else's save file. Right?

But it's not a Pokémon game without a rival.

Hmmmm, well Nanami-chan, that may be so but...there's no real "hero" of this game, it seems. We've all been pulled here to this world from our own, and then set on this journey. I suppose you can go challenge Gym leaders and earn their badges, train your Pokemon to be their strongest? You can teach them all kinds of moves, even breed them with others to make stronger offspring.

...So it's just a collection and breeding game. If that's the case, there's no plot hook?

None besides the "how did we get here and why" and making a life for ourselves, I suppose.

I'm okay with that type of game, too. ...Though it's a departure for this series.

Is it? I can't say I'm familiar with it...it might have been after my time.
