HOENNWEEN: BOSS BATTLE LOG

Who: Hoennween Plot Participants!
Where: Tohjo Falls!
When: Thursday, October 30th
Summary: You've taken the Elite Four's estate and reaped the (stolen? borrowed? requisitioned) benefits waiting for you inside it. But come morning, an earthquake signals the arrival of two incredibly belligerent Legendaries and the Team Bosses who've summoned them.
Rating: PG-13 in general; please mark threads that go higher accordingly!
Log:

YOU ARE HERE. YOU'RE FIGHTING THESE GUYS.

THIS IS STILL YOUR BACKGROUND MUSIC, AND THIS IS STARTING TO LOOK LIKE AN EPISODE OF JACKASS.

KEY:
GRAY areas in the north are a range of mountains that form a natural barrier around part of the Tohjo plain where the Elite Four's resort is located. This is where you will find and battle Maxie, his Team Magma Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Groudon, all right.

GREEN areas in the southeast and southwest are densely-packed forested areas interspersed by lakes and rivers that seem to be feeding into the main waterway into the area. It is both difficult and dangerous to venture into the woodlands proper, but this seems to be where a lot of the Team Aqua Grunts are stationed now.

• The BLUE area in the south is the massive lake that feeds the eponymous falls that give Tohjo its name. This is where you will find and battle Archie, his Team Aqua Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Kyogre, all right.

PINK diamonds in the east and west are the sites of massive formations of Mysterious Plot Crystals™ jutting up from beneath the surface; the Grunts will not be found around these today, so if your character is looking for a safe zone well away from the crossfire, they will want to hole up near these.

• The BROWN rectangle dead-center in the map is...the Elite Four's resort. It's even more unfortunately-located today than it was yesterday. However, people willing to risk the crossfire between the Legendaries and get into the house will have access to all of the battle and healing items discussed up here!

A FEW OTHER SETTING NOTES:

• As per Arceus's summon, there will be Gen VI Pokemon joining the battle on their own! You may NPC these Pokemon, within reasonable limits; you may not capture them in Pokeballs, and they are still wild so they will not take commands from characters the way a captured Pokemon would from its trainer. However, they do recognize that the portaled-in humans are fighting on roughly the same side as they are, so they won't attack player characters and might occasionally come to their aid if need be — you're free to NPC them as you like for purposes such as this.

• The aforementioned Gen VI Pokemon can be any Pokemon that swarmed during September, plus any of their evolved forms. They've had several weeks in the wild to get buff and settle in; now you can see what they've got to show for it!

• You may NPC the Team Aqua and Team Magma Grunts as you see fit; either one can reasonably be found anywhere on the map, though they're avoiding the crystals and keeping close to their bosses — that means Team Magma will be more highly-concentrated in the northern areas of the map, and Team Aqua will be staying to the south.

• Due to the nature of the battlefield and the fact that the team leaders are going to be defending their Legendary of choice, if you choose to fight the bosses, please select whether you are going after Archie or Maxie on this particular log - you may go after one but not both.

• However, there is no restriction on how many Aqua and Magma Grunts you may fight!

• You may forego Pokemon battling entirely and simply beat up the Grunts with physical violence yourself. If you KO a Grunt, they will white out and be warped to the nearest Pokemon Center back down in the regions proper, where they will be arrested by an officer of the Kangaskhan Police.

FOR CHARACTERS INTENDING TO USE HONEDGES LIKE WEAPONS: due to the high volume of questions we have received on this topic (it's a popular inquiry!), we want to clarify for this Pokemon in particular —

If you choose to use a Honedge as though it were a traditional sword, the most that the Honedges will allow might be slapping the grunts with the flat side of the blade. They are still opposed to attacking/killing humans, opponents or not, and if you try to stab an opponent with them, you're going to get a really obstinate ghost sword going incorporeal and ineffectively going through them. There's also the fact that you're grabbing them by the head and swinging them around — they won't like that very much.

PLEASE NOTE: if you intend to use a Honedge in this manner anyway, we may ask that you experience light IC consequences for it later in the plot! We're not barring you from getting your sword skills on with your Honedges; we're simply pointing out that there may be natural outcomes that follow from those choices.

UPDATE: if you would like to interrogate the grunts, check here for information you can learn from them!

~

☆ THE NUMBER TO MEET OR BEAT IS 37 PARTICIPANTS.

REMEMBER: IF YOUR CHARACTER DOES NOT POST TO THE BOSS BATTLE LOG AT LEAST ONCE
(AS A TOP-LEVEL COMMENT OR IN RESPONSE TO SOMEONE ELSE'S TOP-LEVEL COMMENT)
BEFORE 9:00 PM EST on OCTOBER 30, THEY WILL NOT COUNT TOWARD THE 37-PARTICIPANT GOAL!

[But suddenly! A mega-evolved Absol comes dashing in with wings unfurled, like a beautiful avenger of justice. Riding him is Ryner Lute, and riding him are a Joltik (sporting a sweet Eviolite under his tiny top hat) and a Clefairy (already casting all her usual buffs for boss fights ahead of time because there's no reason to fight fair here). His other three mons are back picking off more grunts, but that's fine. They can fend for themselves.

No holding back today. Ryner had seen those legends in books. (Frustratingly little of them for his curiosity to be satisfied, but he had.) If the leaders of these red and blue-clad idiots thought they could handle them... well, then they could probably handle full power anyway.

On Ryner's shout, Jehra leapt into the air, and at the zenith Ryner leapt off of him, leaving Rose to ride the Absol herself. Upon landing, Ryner then ran toward the man who was obviously the leader of the blue folks...]

What the hell is your problem?!?!?

[...to attempt to punch him in the face.

No one ever said that the leader deserved any more respect than the grunts, after all.]

[Trying to start a fistfight? Really? What is wrong with you? Don't you guys know that the proper way to deal with a bad guy is with a Pokemon battle?]

Huh?

[He's moving away by congratulations Ryner, that managed to hit him in the shoulder! So he staggers back a little.]

Not a smart move, guy.

[Rather than use his hands like some sort of uncultured barbarian, he'll send out a Tentacruel instead, and it'll move between him and Ryner. Try punching that.]

Why are you interfering anyway? What I'm trying to do will benefit the entire world!

tearsofademon: (why invite their calumny)

[personal profile] tearsofademon 2014-10-29 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Be glad he didn't aim for the groin this time.

But when the Tentacruel appears, Ryner jumps back a bit, and Jehra comes in growling to stand in front of his papa. Rose is still riding on his back, arm ready to use any of her attacks (...let's face it probably Thunderbolt) at a moment's notice.

You want a Pokemon battle, well, you can have one.]

Benefit the world...? You're destroying everything and hurting innocent pokemon! How is that benefiting the world?
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-29 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[Tentacruel doesn't really do anything in response. They're having a conversation right now, not a battle.

But Archie will step to the side so he's visible. Talking from behind Tentacruel would just look really silly to anyone watching.]

To the untrained eye, sure, but what Team Aqua is doing is trying to protect life itself! If Team Magma had their way, they'd dry up the sea and cover most of the world in land, and where would we all be, then? We don't want to hurt anyone, but if it's needed to stop Team Magma, then Team Aqua has no choice!
tearsofademon: (I don't know if you would listen)

[personal profile] tearsofademon 2014-10-29 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
And let me guess. Considering you seem to have done pretty much the exact same thing as those red idiots back there, you'd rather cover the entire world with water?

[Ryner is unimpressed. But hey, the longer he can keep this guy talking, maybe the less fighting actually has to get done.]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-29 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well yeah, it sounds dumb if somebody puts it like that...]

Is that really a bad thing though? Think about it! Everything comes from the sea, that's where life itself began, so if the sea were vaster, think of all the new life that could arise from it!
tearsofademon: (mon dieu above)

[personal profile] tearsofademon 2014-10-29 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
But what about the life that's already here?? Not everybody can swim or fly, y'know. If you get rid of the land entirely, you'll wipe out all of that!

["Clef!" Rose agrees whole-heartedly with her dear partner from atop Jehra's back.]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-29 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[One word Ryner: boats.]

Some of that is a small price to pay to return the world to how it should be.

[Or at least he thinks so. Disagree if you want, he doesn't care.]
tearsofademon: (because it's true)

[personal profile] tearsofademon 2014-10-29 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
A small price to pay my ass!

[He throws his arms in the air in exasperation.]

God, you know what? You're idiots. Both sides are idiots! You claim to care about life, but all you do is cause death! I'm sick and tired of all the idiots I've come across in my life who're like that! You all suck! SOOO MUCH!
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-29 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
[Death? But nobody dies, they just sort of white out and go back to the Pokemon Center.

Anyways, confusion aside, Archie's about done with this too.]

If you're sick of it, then get out of the way, and let Team Aqua do what we came here to do!
tearsofademon: (when our tale was begun)

[personal profile] tearsofademon 2014-10-29 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[Instead of agreeing to that, Ryner turns to his mons.]

What do you guys think?

["Clefairy." Rose seems rather annoyed at this guy too, and not about to let him get what he wants. Jehra silently brandishes his new wings. And Glen, still riding Ryner's arm, gives a "Tik!" of being ready to fight whenever.]

Ahh, well, that's that, then. Sorry, but you're gonna have to go through us first.
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-29 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
More like you guys have to go through me.

[He'll pick Mightyena and a Walrein for this one. So in addition to Tentacruel, that should make things even.]

I'm not exactly happy about this, but no way am I letting you stand in the way of Team Aqua's goals! Hydro Pump! Aurora Beam! Scary Face!

[Each Pokemon follows its orders and the battle begins!]
tearsofademon: (I don't know if you would listen)

[personal profile] tearsofademon 2014-10-30 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
Feel free to go all out on this one.

[Okay, so. The thing about Ryner's team is that Ryner doesn't actually order them around. It started out that he was too lazy to train them so Rose would train the others by herself, and then when they finally convinced him that it would be a good idea to supervise, said supervision ended up usually being him (and maybe Glen) sparring with the others. They're very self-taught, and they're very used to making their own decisions.

That being said. Ryner jumps back as Glen leaps off his arm, taking the Hydro Pump but at less than expected because of the Eviolite he's wearing. He then uses Thunderbolt on its user (I'm assuming the Tentacruel), hoping to use the watery attack to help draw the lightning toward its user.

Rose, meanwhile, has Cosmic Power and dual screens up as part of her battle preparations, so that should at least last a bit longer. While she takes the Aurora Beam (at reduced damage), she'll target the Walrein with Magical Leaf. Good luck dodging that.

Jehra takes the Scary Face... or at least, he sort of does, but having Mega Evolved, he gains Magic Bounce, which flips it back on its user. He wastes no time running in on the Mightyena with an Aerial Ace.]

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-30 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
[Well that basically sucked for each Pokemon on Archie's side of things. They're not knocked out or anything like that, but yeah, that wasn't very fun. It doesn't really matter to him though. After all, he's got Primal Kyogre waiting in the wings, so it's gonna take a lot to actually make him think he's in any real trouble here.]

Tentacruel, Acid Spray on the Clefairy! Walrein, Blizzard on all of them! Mightyena, Crunch that bug!
tearsofademon: (* we look to you still)

[personal profile] tearsofademon 2014-10-30 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
[RNG says Rose and Jehra were hit by Blizzard, but Glen managed to skitter out of the way of it. ...Only to be Crunched, but his Eviolite still reduces his damage. Rose was also hit by the Acid Spray, making her more than a little annoyed.

Rose takes this turn to fall back and use Moonlight to boost her HP, while Jehra uses Psycho Cut on the Tentacruel - yay psychic being strong against poison. Glen, meanwhile, will use a Signal Beam (bug on dark) on the Mightyena, possibly from within its mouth, idk.]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-30 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
[Poor Tentacruel. It could probably use a Hyper Potion or something, but there's not one of those handy. The one having the worse time though is probably Mightyena who spits that bug away because please do not fire lasers inside its mouth, what is wrong with you?

Walrein who wasn't targeted at all, is of course relatively fine since it only took the hit from the first turn and wasn't subject to type advantages or having a laser shot into its mouth this turn.]

Blizzard again!

[It worked out okay, so why not do it again?]

Mightyena, Crunch that Clefairy!

[Because the odds of Clefairy trying to explode it from within have to be pretty low, right?]

Tentacruel...Sludge Wave!

[So there's waves of ice and sludge heading toward Ryner. Note the distinct lack of water attacks. Team Aqua, everybody.]

tearsofademon: (* we look to you still)

[personal profile] tearsofademon 2014-10-31 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Jehra steps between the attacks and his papa and spreads his wings, using Protect. So he won't be taking damage this turn, and any residual parts of the attacks won't be hitting Ryner, either.

The other two, on the other hand, are both hit by both attacks - well, all three, in Rose's case. It's probably good that she healed last turn, because she's also poisoned by the Sludge Wave. ...Not that she seems to mind. Magic Guard, it's a wonderful thing.

And, well, are you sure Crunching the Clefairy was a good idea? Because this just means Rose is in a prime spot to use Thunderbolt on the Mightyena at point blank.

Glen, however, doesn't look like he's doing too well. Even with his Eviolite top hat, the poor spider-tick is teetering a little. So he'll be using Leech Life on the Mightyena to try and get back some HP - that selection, once again, because of the type chart.]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-31 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Leech Life's enough to send things over the edge, so Mightyena's done for. Archie'll recall that and think things over before figuring out what to do this turn.]

Your Pokemon are pretty tough.

[He's got no problem admitting that.]

But they're nothing compared to the power of the sea!

[Out comes...Mega Sharpedo!]

Blizzard, Sludge Wave! Sharpedo! Aqua Jet on that Absol!

{OOC: Would you be okay with Kyogre ending it after whichever of Archie's Pokemon gets knocked out next?}
tearsofademon: (I don't know if you would listen)

[personal profile] tearsofademon 2014-11-01 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yours are pretty well trained too.

[Hey, Ryner can return a compliment when it's called for.

Jehra is hit by the Aqua Jet, but if he's badly fazed by it he's putting on a brave face. RNG says Jehra and Rose dodge the Blizzard this time, but Glen unfortunately doesn't in time. They're all hit by the Sludge Wave, too, so the poor tiny spider flies back, KO'd despite what health he managed to regain from Leech Life.]

Glen!

[Ryner doesn't recall him to his ball, instead running over to him to pick him up, give him a proud pat, and let him into a pouch on his sleeve to rest.

He also doesn't pull out a replacement, since his other three are still beating up grunts, but what can you do.

Rose gets mad, though - you don't knock out the tiny spider! - and decides that it's time to Thunder the Tentacruel.

Jehra, meanwhile, will use his own Thunder (reusable TMs are a wonderful thing) on the Mega Sharpedo - might as well have a Mega on Mega battle, right?]

[[ooc: I would be perfectly okay with that o/]]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-11-01 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Thunder hits and Tentacruel's more or less zapped into the ground. It's not getting back up during this battle. Sharpedo's a little worse for wear, but is okay enough to keep fighting. However, that's not really the problem here since Archie's basically done with this at this point.]

Yeah, well let's see how well you handle this! Kyogre!

[That's right, he's calling his giant whale to get into position.]

Origin Pulse! Behold the power of the primal seas!

[Apparently that's code for roar and unleash a barrage of water at each of Ryner's Pokemon. The primal seas probably didn't work like that...but since nobody here was present back then except Kyogre who doesn't talk, nobody can really point that out.]
tearsofademon: (the innocent blood you have spilt)

[personal profile] tearsofademon 2014-11-02 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Well.

Rose and Jehra certainly don't have an answer for that, and are blasted with the full power of the legendary whale. Blasted back quite a ways, in fact - they have most certainly left the premises of the battle.]

What the hell???

[That's really all Ryner can say, though it's more "What the hell are you thinking trying to command a legendary pokemon like that do you really know what you're doing you're gonna get everyone killed you idiot!" than anything.

But, well, he needs to go chase down his 'mons now, recover them from where they landed. So he'll run off to do that and leave you be, Archie. Have fun with whatever it is you're doing.]
