HOENNWEEN: BOSS BATTLE LOG

Who: Hoennween Plot Participants!
Where: Tohjo Falls!
When: Thursday, October 30th
Summary: You've taken the Elite Four's estate and reaped the (stolen? borrowed? requisitioned) benefits waiting for you inside it. But come morning, an earthquake signals the arrival of two incredibly belligerent Legendaries and the Team Bosses who've summoned them.
Rating: PG-13 in general; please mark threads that go higher accordingly!
Log:

YOU ARE HERE. YOU'RE FIGHTING THESE GUYS.

THIS IS STILL YOUR BACKGROUND MUSIC, AND THIS IS STARTING TO LOOK LIKE AN EPISODE OF JACKASS.

KEY:
GRAY areas in the north are a range of mountains that form a natural barrier around part of the Tohjo plain where the Elite Four's resort is located. This is where you will find and battle Maxie, his Team Magma Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Groudon, all right.

GREEN areas in the southeast and southwest are densely-packed forested areas interspersed by lakes and rivers that seem to be feeding into the main waterway into the area. It is both difficult and dangerous to venture into the woodlands proper, but this seems to be where a lot of the Team Aqua Grunts are stationed now.

• The BLUE area in the south is the massive lake that feeds the eponymous falls that give Tohjo its name. This is where you will find and battle Archie, his Team Aqua Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Kyogre, all right.

PINK diamonds in the east and west are the sites of massive formations of Mysterious Plot Crystals™ jutting up from beneath the surface; the Grunts will not be found around these today, so if your character is looking for a safe zone well away from the crossfire, they will want to hole up near these.

• The BROWN rectangle dead-center in the map is...the Elite Four's resort. It's even more unfortunately-located today than it was yesterday. However, people willing to risk the crossfire between the Legendaries and get into the house will have access to all of the battle and healing items discussed up here!

A FEW OTHER SETTING NOTES:

• As per Arceus's summon, there will be Gen VI Pokemon joining the battle on their own! You may NPC these Pokemon, within reasonable limits; you may not capture them in Pokeballs, and they are still wild so they will not take commands from characters the way a captured Pokemon would from its trainer. However, they do recognize that the portaled-in humans are fighting on roughly the same side as they are, so they won't attack player characters and might occasionally come to their aid if need be — you're free to NPC them as you like for purposes such as this.

• The aforementioned Gen VI Pokemon can be any Pokemon that swarmed during September, plus any of their evolved forms. They've had several weeks in the wild to get buff and settle in; now you can see what they've got to show for it!

• You may NPC the Team Aqua and Team Magma Grunts as you see fit; either one can reasonably be found anywhere on the map, though they're avoiding the crystals and keeping close to their bosses — that means Team Magma will be more highly-concentrated in the northern areas of the map, and Team Aqua will be staying to the south.

• Due to the nature of the battlefield and the fact that the team leaders are going to be defending their Legendary of choice, if you choose to fight the bosses, please select whether you are going after Archie or Maxie on this particular log - you may go after one but not both.

• However, there is no restriction on how many Aqua and Magma Grunts you may fight!

• You may forego Pokemon battling entirely and simply beat up the Grunts with physical violence yourself. If you KO a Grunt, they will white out and be warped to the nearest Pokemon Center back down in the regions proper, where they will be arrested by an officer of the Kangaskhan Police.

FOR CHARACTERS INTENDING TO USE HONEDGES LIKE WEAPONS: due to the high volume of questions we have received on this topic (it's a popular inquiry!), we want to clarify for this Pokemon in particular —

If you choose to use a Honedge as though it were a traditional sword, the most that the Honedges will allow might be slapping the grunts with the flat side of the blade. They are still opposed to attacking/killing humans, opponents or not, and if you try to stab an opponent with them, you're going to get a really obstinate ghost sword going incorporeal and ineffectively going through them. There's also the fact that you're grabbing them by the head and swinging them around — they won't like that very much.

PLEASE NOTE: if you intend to use a Honedge in this manner anyway, we may ask that you experience light IC consequences for it later in the plot! We're not barring you from getting your sword skills on with your Honedges; we're simply pointing out that there may be natural outcomes that follow from those choices.

UPDATE: if you would like to interrogate the grunts, check here for information you can learn from them!

~

☆ THE NUMBER TO MEET OR BEAT IS 37 PARTICIPANTS.

REMEMBER: IF YOUR CHARACTER DOES NOT POST TO THE BOSS BATTLE LOG AT LEAST ONCE
(AS A TOP-LEVEL COMMENT OR IN RESPONSE TO SOMEONE ELSE'S TOP-LEVEL COMMENT)
BEFORE 9:00 PM EST on OCTOBER 30, THEY WILL NOT COUNT TOWARD THE 37-PARTICIPANT GOAL!

[ No flashy entrance on a Mega Pokémon here, because, well, Mimi doesn't have any! So here's a little girl whose most intimidating Pokémon is a Skitty stomping up to you. She's on a mission, and she won't rest until she chews someone out! ]

Hey, meanie! Are you in charge of all those jerks! And that... big whale thing?

[ Mimi eyes the big whale thing with trepidation. She's been eaten by a big whale thing once before, and she has no desire to repeat the experience. ]

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-29 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Jerks? We're not jerks. We're Team Aqua! And we're making the world a better place for Pokemon!

[Through superior...um...firepower basically, which totally clashes with the whole water motif, but superior waterpower or superior whalepower don't sound right.]

And that's right, I'm in charge! The name's Archie, and I'm the head of Team Aqua.
sincereheart: (no way)

[personal profile] sincereheart 2014-10-30 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Well, it's very nice to meet you, Archie-san -

No! I mean, it's not nice to meet you! How can you be making the world better? All you're doing is fighting my friends and making a big mess! More like Team Jerkqua, if you ask me!

[ Oh yeah. She went there. ]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-30 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
Your friends are interrupting our plans to deal the decisive blow against Team Magma once and for all! You can't really expect us to just stand by and let you spoil our victory, can you?

[No comment on the mess thing. They're totally making a giant mess of everything.]
sincereheart: (discontent)

[personal profile] sincereheart 2014-10-30 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, well, what's so important that you guys have to fight about it anyway? It seems to me like you're all just causing huge problems over nothing! And I... I'm gonna stop you!

[ And that's why there's now a very determined, very level 21 Flaaffy staring up at Archie. This may not end well for Mimi. ]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-30 06:45 pm (UTC)(link)
You should really reconsider. You won't understand what this is about, but what we're doing is helping the world!

But if you really want to try, then...

[Archie'll bring out...Mightyena. It's the only thing on his team that isn't weak to electricity.]

Then I, Archie, will see to it that you don't ruin Team Aqua's plans!
sincereheart: (no way)

[personal profile] sincereheart 2014-10-31 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I understand what it's about, all right! [ She's not buying it. Sorry, Archie. She knows your type. (It's water type, obviously.)

...And. Well. That is a hyena. That is a large, pointy-toothed hyena. Do hyenas eat sheep? Mimi hopes they don't. So does her Flaaffy.
]

Okay, Mary, um, why don't you try paralyzing it!

[ And Mary lets loose with a Thunder Wave. ]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-31 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
[That's definitely a popular strategy today, and there's nothing he can do about that. So Mightyena's paralyzed.]

Take Down!

[Nope, it's fully paralyzed. Great.]
sincereheart: (smiling)

[personal profile] sincereheart 2014-10-31 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ Hey, you deal in water types, you gotta expect to be facing a lot of electric attacks. Mimi still hasn't really mastered type advantages, but she knows that much, at least. ]

Not so tough now, huh! [ Mimi sticks her tongue out at the Mightyena. Maybe not the smartest idea, but hey, it can't hurt her! It's paralyzed! ]

Thunder Shock, Mary!

FLAAAAAFF!!
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-31 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Zapping Mightyena also seems to be pretty popular today, which the hyena Pokemon is definitely not happy about, but once again, there's nothing it can really do about it either.]

Use Crunch!

[It's able to move this turn, so it's moving in for a quick bite. Sorry, Flaffy.]
sincereheart: (no way)

[personal profile] sincereheart 2014-10-31 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Mary bleats in pain as the Mightyena's jaws close on her. That can't have been good for her HP. ]

It's okay, Mary! [ Oh gosh oh gosh what if it's not okay ] You can do this! Shock it again! [ Maybe it'll hurt more at close range? She hopes. ]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-11-01 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
[If it's any consideration, the repeated shocks aren't really that great for his Pokemon either.]

Let's try this again! Take Down!

[...and history repeats itself since it's not moving, much to Archie's dismay.]

Are you kidding me? I knew I should've told those Grunts to pack the Paralyze Heals!
sincereheart: (daijoubu)

[personal profile] sincereheart 2014-11-01 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Can't do it, huh? [ NYAH NYAH ] Mary, I think you'd better show him what a real Take Down is like!

[ Mary rears back and charges at the helpless Mightyena. Eat Flaaffy, sucker! ]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-11-01 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
[This is just not Mightyena's day apparently.]

Sucker Punch!

[It's fully paralyzed. He...he can't even believe this. His level 100 Mightyena should be able to make lamb chops out of that thing, but nope, paralyzed.]
sincereheart: (happy)

[personal profile] sincereheart 2014-11-01 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
[ ...It's a really good thing Mimi didn't know that Mightyena was level 100, or she might have been the one paralyzed. By fear. Get it, paralyzed by... never mind.

For better or for worse, though, Mary doesn't afraid of anything. She's already gearing up for another Take Down, looking over her shoulder at her trainer, who nods determinedly.
]

Get 'im!
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-11-01 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, no more of this!

[He's going to recall Mightyena, and send out Walrein. Which promptly gets hit by Take Down. Oh well, it's not paralyzed, which means this is already going better than Mightyena's turn, right?]

Let's see how you handle this one!

[And since he just switched out, he'll just wait his turn patiently.]
sincereheart: (happy)

[personal profile] sincereheart 2014-11-01 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Huh. Well, the new one's blue, so it's probably a water type. Which means... ]

You got this one, Mary! Keep Thundershocking!
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-11-02 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
[The good news is that it's super effective. The bad news? It doesn't paralyze Walrein, leaving it free to act on this turn.]

Ice Fang!

[And it's going to act by rushing Flaffy with its tusks.]
sincereheart: (no way)

[personal profile] sincereheart 2014-11-02 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Why is it always biting? Also, ouch. The tusks hit home, and Mimi winces in sympathy. Mary totters unsteadily - that one took a lot out of her. ]

Um, um! [ Mimi hastily fumbles for Mary's Pokéball. ] You'd better come on back! But you did wonderfully, Mary!

[ The Flaaffy sighs in relief as Mimi beams her back into her Pokéball. Hmm, who to use next... She considers one of her grass types, but in the back of her mind she remembers a voice (Tobias-san's?) telling her that grass types don't do well against ice attacks. Okay, so how about... ]

Why don't you try, Chira! [ Her Meowstic emerges from her Pokéball, looking a bit intimidated at the sight of the Walrein, but determined nonetheless. She digs in her heels, preparing for its next attack. ]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-11-02 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well that's not something entirely new, but something he hasn't really run into today, so he'll be a bit more cautious with Meowstic.]

Walrein...Aurora Beam!

[He'll stick to long range attacks for now, until he has a better idea of what it knows or doesn't know.]
sincereheart: (daijoubu)

[personal profile] sincereheart 2014-11-05 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Ouch. A direct hit. Chira staggers. ]

You're doing good, Chira! Hit him with that lightning attack... thingy!

[ Fortunately, they've been training together long enough that Chira knows what attack she means. Her ears open up as she fires off a Charge Beam at the Walrein. ]
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-11-05 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ow. It's times like these Archie wishes he was just fighting Team Magma instead of these trainers. Because Team Magma doesn't utilize type advantages.

Anyways, it's a pretty solid hit, but it's going to take a bit more than that to get rid of the angry ice walrus/sea lion.]

Walrein, get in there and retaliate with Body Slam!

[Apparently Archie's not as worried about mystery attacks as he was on the last turn. Go figure.]
sincereheart: (no way)

[personal profile] sincereheart 2014-11-08 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Unfortunately for Chira, Meowstics aren't the hardiest Pokémon in the world. She takes the full brunt of the Walrein's Body Slam, collapsing to the ground. ]

Oh gosh! Chira! Are you okay?

[ ...It's dawning on Mimi that she might be at a tactical disadvantage in this battle. Which may have something to do with the fact that her Pokémon are all low-level tiny babies. It just may be time to start noping out of here. ]

Um, Tobias-san? [ Mimi raises her voice, hoping that he can hear her as he circles above the battle on Regal. ] We might need some help!
wing_attack: (unsure)

[personal profile] wing_attack 2014-11-08 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[He's been watching the battle, and as soon as he sees her look up he swoops down on Regal. He's not eager to fight right now, but he does at least have a quick getaway. Regal lands and eyes Archie, but he's worried about Mimi, too.]

Come on!
pokestars: (archie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-11-08 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Archie's eyeing Regal right back, but he's not going to try and stop them from leaving. That's not really his style, and besides, he hopes they'll tell other Trainers not to mess with Team Aqua after this.]
