HOENNWEEN: BOSS BATTLE LOG

Who: Hoennween Plot Participants!
Where: Tohjo Falls!
When: Thursday, October 30th
Summary: You've taken the Elite Four's estate and reaped the (stolen? borrowed? requisitioned) benefits waiting for you inside it. But come morning, an earthquake signals the arrival of two incredibly belligerent Legendaries and the Team Bosses who've summoned them.
Rating: PG-13 in general; please mark threads that go higher accordingly!
Log:

YOU ARE HERE. YOU'RE FIGHTING THESE GUYS.

THIS IS STILL YOUR BACKGROUND MUSIC, AND THIS IS STARTING TO LOOK LIKE AN EPISODE OF JACKASS.

KEY:
GRAY areas in the north are a range of mountains that form a natural barrier around part of the Tohjo plain where the Elite Four's resort is located. This is where you will find and battle Maxie, his Team Magma Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Groudon, all right.

GREEN areas in the southeast and southwest are densely-packed forested areas interspersed by lakes and rivers that seem to be feeding into the main waterway into the area. It is both difficult and dangerous to venture into the woodlands proper, but this seems to be where a lot of the Team Aqua Grunts are stationed now.

• The BLUE area in the south is the massive lake that feeds the eponymous falls that give Tohjo its name. This is where you will find and battle Archie, his Team Aqua Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Kyogre, all right.

PINK diamonds in the east and west are the sites of massive formations of Mysterious Plot Crystals™ jutting up from beneath the surface; the Grunts will not be found around these today, so if your character is looking for a safe zone well away from the crossfire, they will want to hole up near these.

• The BROWN rectangle dead-center in the map is...the Elite Four's resort. It's even more unfortunately-located today than it was yesterday. However, people willing to risk the crossfire between the Legendaries and get into the house will have access to all of the battle and healing items discussed up here!

A FEW OTHER SETTING NOTES:

• As per Arceus's summon, there will be Gen VI Pokemon joining the battle on their own! You may NPC these Pokemon, within reasonable limits; you may not capture them in Pokeballs, and they are still wild so they will not take commands from characters the way a captured Pokemon would from its trainer. However, they do recognize that the portaled-in humans are fighting on roughly the same side as they are, so they won't attack player characters and might occasionally come to their aid if need be — you're free to NPC them as you like for purposes such as this.

• The aforementioned Gen VI Pokemon can be any Pokemon that swarmed during September, plus any of their evolved forms. They've had several weeks in the wild to get buff and settle in; now you can see what they've got to show for it!

• You may NPC the Team Aqua and Team Magma Grunts as you see fit; either one can reasonably be found anywhere on the map, though they're avoiding the crystals and keeping close to their bosses — that means Team Magma will be more highly-concentrated in the northern areas of the map, and Team Aqua will be staying to the south.

• Due to the nature of the battlefield and the fact that the team leaders are going to be defending their Legendary of choice, if you choose to fight the bosses, please select whether you are going after Archie or Maxie on this particular log - you may go after one but not both.

• However, there is no restriction on how many Aqua and Magma Grunts you may fight!

• You may forego Pokemon battling entirely and simply beat up the Grunts with physical violence yourself. If you KO a Grunt, they will white out and be warped to the nearest Pokemon Center back down in the regions proper, where they will be arrested by an officer of the Kangaskhan Police.

FOR CHARACTERS INTENDING TO USE HONEDGES LIKE WEAPONS: due to the high volume of questions we have received on this topic (it's a popular inquiry!), we want to clarify for this Pokemon in particular —

If you choose to use a Honedge as though it were a traditional sword, the most that the Honedges will allow might be slapping the grunts with the flat side of the blade. They are still opposed to attacking/killing humans, opponents or not, and if you try to stab an opponent with them, you're going to get a really obstinate ghost sword going incorporeal and ineffectively going through them. There's also the fact that you're grabbing them by the head and swinging them around — they won't like that very much.

PLEASE NOTE: if you intend to use a Honedge in this manner anyway, we may ask that you experience light IC consequences for it later in the plot! We're not barring you from getting your sword skills on with your Honedges; we're simply pointing out that there may be natural outcomes that follow from those choices.

UPDATE: if you would like to interrogate the grunts, check here for information you can learn from them!

☆ THE NUMBER TO MEET OR BEAT IS 37 PARTICIPANTS.

REMEMBER: IF YOUR CHARACTER DOES NOT POST TO THE BOSS BATTLE LOG AT LEAST ONCE
(AS A TOP-LEVEL COMMENT OR IN RESPONSE TO SOMEONE ELSE'S TOP-LEVEL COMMENT)
BEFORE 9:00 PM EST on OCTOBER 30, THEY WILL NOT COUNT TOWARD THE 37-PARTICIPANT GOAL!

[...Nope.

Xion is just staring at the coffee. Staring with an odd expression of wonderment as though she's never seen it before (she hasn't.)

It takes a moment, but her Furfrou nudges her and she finally can speak.]

What...is that?
me_first: (i said pi not pie)

[personal profile] me_first 2014-10-30 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
[... Hello small child teenager person.]

... Coffee. It... contains caffeine which helps with energy and alertness. For... a time, at least.
faintwaves: ([Stare] heeeeyyyy.......no.)

[personal profile] faintwaves 2014-10-30 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Hello tall adult man person.]

...[All right, she's thinking over what he said, tilting her head to examine the dark liquid this way and that. Caffeine? Is that some super miracle potion ingredient?]

So, if Pokemon here get Potions to heal up, does that mean people get coffee?

[Xion no.]
me_first: (disgruntled)

[personal profile] me_first 2014-10-30 09:17 am (UTC)(link)
It's less of a healing... item... than an aid for staying awake and alert. Too much of it can cause insomnia, irritability, and stomach problems. But a little to... stay awake and alert during a crisis like this is unlikely to hurt. As long as you don't make a habit of it.
faintwaves: ([Dork] YEAH!!!!)

[personal profile] faintwaves 2014-11-03 07:54 am (UTC)(link)
Then, I should try some! I need to stay just as energetic as my Pokemon!

[Xion, no.]

Um, is that okay?
me_first: (smoke break)

[personal profile] me_first 2014-11-03 07:56 am (UTC)(link)
If you'd like.

[Here, have a mug.]
faintwaves: ([Chat] A bowl of crap!)

1/?? dear god

[personal profile] faintwaves 2014-11-03 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
[She's practically sparkling with enthusiasm, taking the mug with a smile and a "thank you!"

All right. Here goes. She takes a sip.]
faintwaves: ([Horror] OH....OH *GOD* NO)

[personal profile] faintwaves 2014-11-03 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
...[Oh.

Oh.

Dear sweet Disney, it's SO BITTER.]
faintwaves: ([Exasperate] DO NOT.)

3/4 I am so sorry

[personal profile] faintwaves 2014-11-03 08:13 am (UTC)(link)
...[N-no...no...she can't back down, keep drinking, Xion, you can do it!! The sip turns into more of...like she's treating the thing like a challenge.]
faintwaves: ([Dork] WHAT BUTTON WHERE??)

[personal profile] faintwaves 2014-11-03 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
[VICTORY, SHE DRANK THE WHOLE MUG! She raises it up as if in victory.]

Aaaaaaaaaaa!!

[Well that was an experience. Does coffee energize you because it tastes so bad?]
me_first: (armed and... dangerous?)

[personal profile] me_first 2014-11-03 08:18 am (UTC)(link)
[That... that was interesting.]

... I suppose most people aren't used to it being... without cream or sugar or milk...
faintwaves: ([Hide] Mr. Corner is my only friend)

[personal profile] faintwaves 2014-11-03 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
...[You're...you're supposed to put stuff IN it?]

...I don't know what any of that is. I think sugar and milk go in ice cream, don't they?
me_first: (don't touch me i am allergic to dumb)

[personal profile] me_first 2014-11-03 08:23 am (UTC)(link)
They do, but... they're in a lot of things.
faintwaves: ([Blush] I am so teeny tiny)

[personal profile] faintwaves 2014-11-03 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
...Really?

[Mind. Blown.]

What's cream, then? Does it also go in a lot of things? [Congrats, Royce, now you've got a permanently curious nobody Nobody on your hands.]
me_first: (i said pi not pie)

[personal profile] me_first 2014-11-03 08:32 am (UTC)(link)
Cream is used mostly in either coffee to sweeten it or on desserts as a topping. There are some different types of cream, though I... don't know all of them. I don't... I don't bake, no.
faintwaves: ([Off-center] Oops down I go--)

[personal profile] faintwaves 2014-11-03 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
...Don't go to the beach much?

[Xion no.]

Axel says when your skin turns darker in the sun it's getting "baked."

[Xion please.]
me_first: (don't touch me i am allergic to dumb)

[personal profile] me_first 2014-11-03 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
... No. Bake, as in put together ingredients to produce something in the oven - usually it... refers to the making of desserts.
faintwaves: ([Unsure] Are you shitting me?)

[personal profile] faintwaves 2014-11-03 08:38 am (UTC)(link)
[She's staring at him again.

Explain, Mr. Man. Explain.]

So you can make ice cream and things like that? [You can make your own ice cream?!] Oh--but Riku told me humans aren't supposed to eat desserts all the time, do you bake regular food, too?
me_first: (smoke break)

[personal profile] me_first 2014-11-03 08:43 am (UTC)(link)
Well... yes. Where else would it come from? And... there are... different ways of preparing food. Generally the word for preparing non-dessert food with... heat is to 'cook'. Though there are some foods that are baked... pizza and potatoes come to mind.
faintwaves: ([Unsure] Why are you looking at me)

[personal profile] faintwaves 2014-11-03 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
...Um...

[Was that a legitimate question? She'll try to answer, but--]

I didn't need to eat food until I came here.

[Good...good job, honey.]
me_first: (disgruntled)

[personal profile] me_first 2014-11-03 08:46 am (UTC)(link)
[... Oh.]

That explains a few things.
faintwaves: ([Fluster] A man about a monkey???)

[personal profile] faintwaves 2014-11-03 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Yep. Living doll, created in a lab. The usual sort of thing.]

But...I'm learning about it. And other stuff people do.

[Why is she shaking now? Is she sca--oh no. Nope. It's the caffeine.]

Do all drinks do this? I f-feel like I'm about to fly off.
me_first: (armed and... dangerous?)

[personal profile] me_first 2014-11-03 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
No, not all of them. Just ones with caffeine.
faintwaves: ([Unsure] Right....we'll go with that)

[personal profile] faintwaves 2014-11-04 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
And it's...bad to have a lot of caffeine, right? Riku told me humans are supposed to drink water every day. How do I know which drinks have caffeine and which don't?
me_first: (don't touch me i am allergic to dumb)

[personal profile] me_first 2014-11-05 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
You're... supposed to drink water every day, that's correct. But they'll say on their ingredient lists. Or you can... always ask.

[Unless Pokeworld has different rules but he's not really checked for it himself.]
