HOENNWEEN: BOSS BATTLE LOG

Who: Hoennween Plot Participants!
Where: Tohjo Falls!
When: Thursday, October 30th
Summary: You've taken the Elite Four's estate and reaped the (stolen? borrowed? requisitioned) benefits waiting for you inside it. But come morning, an earthquake signals the arrival of two incredibly belligerent Legendaries and the Team Bosses who've summoned them.
Rating: PG-13 in general; please mark threads that go higher accordingly!
Log:

YOU ARE HERE. YOU'RE FIGHTING THESE GUYS.

THIS IS STILL YOUR BACKGROUND MUSIC, AND THIS IS STARTING TO LOOK LIKE AN EPISODE OF JACKASS.

KEY:
GRAY areas in the north are a range of mountains that form a natural barrier around part of the Tohjo plain where the Elite Four's resort is located. This is where you will find and battle Maxie, his Team Magma Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Groudon, all right.

GREEN areas in the southeast and southwest are densely-packed forested areas interspersed by lakes and rivers that seem to be feeding into the main waterway into the area. It is both difficult and dangerous to venture into the woodlands proper, but this seems to be where a lot of the Team Aqua Grunts are stationed now.

• The BLUE area in the south is the massive lake that feeds the eponymous falls that give Tohjo its name. This is where you will find and battle Archie, his Team Aqua Grunts, and also obviously that sure is Primal Kyogre, all right.

PINK diamonds in the east and west are the sites of massive formations of Mysterious Plot Crystals™ jutting up from beneath the surface; the Grunts will not be found around these today, so if your character is looking for a safe zone well away from the crossfire, they will want to hole up near these.

• The BROWN rectangle dead-center in the map is...the Elite Four's resort. It's even more unfortunately-located today than it was yesterday. However, people willing to risk the crossfire between the Legendaries and get into the house will have access to all of the battle and healing items discussed up here!

A FEW OTHER SETTING NOTES:

• As per Arceus's summon, there will be Gen VI Pokemon joining the battle on their own! You may NPC these Pokemon, within reasonable limits; you may not capture them in Pokeballs, and they are still wild so they will not take commands from characters the way a captured Pokemon would from its trainer. However, they do recognize that the portaled-in humans are fighting on roughly the same side as they are, so they won't attack player characters and might occasionally come to their aid if need be — you're free to NPC them as you like for purposes such as this.

• The aforementioned Gen VI Pokemon can be any Pokemon that swarmed during September, plus any of their evolved forms. They've had several weeks in the wild to get buff and settle in; now you can see what they've got to show for it!

• You may NPC the Team Aqua and Team Magma Grunts as you see fit; either one can reasonably be found anywhere on the map, though they're avoiding the crystals and keeping close to their bosses — that means Team Magma will be more highly-concentrated in the northern areas of the map, and Team Aqua will be staying to the south.

• Due to the nature of the battlefield and the fact that the team leaders are going to be defending their Legendary of choice, if you choose to fight the bosses, please select whether you are going after Archie or Maxie on this particular log - you may go after one but not both.

• However, there is no restriction on how many Aqua and Magma Grunts you may fight!

• You may forego Pokemon battling entirely and simply beat up the Grunts with physical violence yourself. If you KO a Grunt, they will white out and be warped to the nearest Pokemon Center back down in the regions proper, where they will be arrested by an officer of the Kangaskhan Police.

FOR CHARACTERS INTENDING TO USE HONEDGES LIKE WEAPONS: due to the high volume of questions we have received on this topic (it's a popular inquiry!), we want to clarify for this Pokemon in particular —

If you choose to use a Honedge as though it were a traditional sword, the most that the Honedges will allow might be slapping the grunts with the flat side of the blade. They are still opposed to attacking/killing humans, opponents or not, and if you try to stab an opponent with them, you're going to get a really obstinate ghost sword going incorporeal and ineffectively going through them. There's also the fact that you're grabbing them by the head and swinging them around — they won't like that very much.

PLEASE NOTE: if you intend to use a Honedge in this manner anyway, we may ask that you experience light IC consequences for it later in the plot! We're not barring you from getting your sword skills on with your Honedges; we're simply pointing out that there may be natural outcomes that follow from those choices.

UPDATE: if you would like to interrogate the grunts, check here for information you can learn from them!

☆ THE NUMBER TO MEET OR BEAT IS 37 PARTICIPANTS.

REMEMBER: IF YOUR CHARACTER DOES NOT POST TO THE BOSS BATTLE LOG AT LEAST ONCE
(AS A TOP-LEVEL COMMENT OR IN RESPONSE TO SOMEONE ELSE'S TOP-LEVEL COMMENT)
BEFORE 9:00 PM EST on OCTOBER 30, THEY WILL NOT COUNT TOWARD THE 37-PARTICIPANT GOAL!

[At this point, there's really only two choices they can make. They can either:

A. Continue to stand here posing like children's video game villains

or

B. Blow Lance's house to kingdom come.

And Archie's voting for option B.]

So then, the sooner we get this over with, the sooner we can finish this, so let's take that thing out!

[He'll just have Kyogre start moving into position now using...whatever they're using to control the Legendaries. Because once again, Kyogre's taking down that house. Either by blasting it to bits with water or just sort of ramming through it like the giant primordial whale it is.]

[In other words...

> WRECK SHIT    >PKMN
> BAG           >RUN

Even if the comment he offers before he moves to begin preparing to do exactly what the above says on the tin is more than a bit dismissive, the energy coursing through his system is more than evident.]

Understood - and don't think I'll go easy on you once this is over, Archie!

[Whether they have the orbs or not is both a bit difficult to say and something of a moot point, because wow this entire thing was about as well-plotted as anything they've ever done in Hoenn and Maxie has been unnecessarily dodgy about answering questions about that anyway, and he's certainly not going to start providing sane answers now.

Either way, let's go, Super Ultron Lavaburst Kaiju McHellbeast - destroy it.]

You're the one who should be asking us to take it easy on you!

[And the gigantic whale god whale, as someone put it earlier, should be in position now via mysterious plot reasons that may or may not be rooted in Hoenn logic, so let's do this thing and ruin Lance's house forever and thus ensure Team Aqua and Magma are blacklisted from prom forever.

So with a dramatic point in the direction of the house...]

Kyogre, target that house and fire!

[Okay, Team Aqua telling the giant water whale to fire doesn't make a lick of sense, but Kyogre, water! doesn't somehow makes even less sense, so it'll have to do.

And apparently Kyogre doesn't really care either since there's some sort of giant watery whale beam launched at Lance's soon to be formerly beautiful home.]

[There is more dramatic pointing to be found on this battlefield than an Ace Attorney/Dangan Ronpa joint gathering.]

Raze that structure to the ground, Groudon - show them your power!

[...and wow, that...certainly is a lot of beamspam all of a sudden, isn't it.

Like, a lot of beamspam? Way more beamspam than there really should be.

what are you

...Archie...]

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-31 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Since there's way too much beamspam going on here, Archie's expression shifts from confident, to this look of confusion to something that can only be described as just ...uh.

As in, ...uh, Maxie what are you doing? He made it clear that he was the one leveling the house, didn't he? It should've been obvious. Like he'd let Team Magma have the honor of wrecking that house.

And as much as he wants to turn around and yell at Maxie, he can't really look away from what's going on. This is certainly going to be something all right once those beams hit each other...obviously not the something he was intending on but definitely some sort of something.]
pokestars: (maxie)

[personal profile] pokestars 2014-10-31 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Well then.

Maxie's own expression is quick to shift back into the usual unimpressed impassivity; really, Archie, you couldn't leave well enough alone for five minutes? He'd made it perfectly obvious that he was going to handle this, after all...

And then as quickly as the irritation had come it's gone, because in the end, who cares? They have a temporary alliance for now, it's disgusting but it works, and it's going to require a literal act of god to save that stupid house. The building is inconsequential, in the end.

...okay yeahno, who is he kidding? Once it's destroyed he'll punch Archie in the face or something - assuming that we don't all die due to the inevitable crossing of the beams there, um...]

[If there is one thing that this impromptu Team Aqua/Team Magma teamup has abruptly made incredibly obvious, it is the fact that any situation that involves Maxie and Archie attempting to work together is also one that rapidly spirals downwards into every single person concerned needing Jesus.

And coincidentally, someone else thinks so too, because as the simultaneous attacks from God Whale and Super Ultron Lavaburst Kaiju McHellbeast go hurtling through the open expanse toward Lance's poor and unsuspecting house, a third and blinding flash of light fills the air, erupting into being in the sky over the estate just as the two blasts are about to hit home.

In the next instant, there is a roar like thunder; it's far too bright to see, but those blasts have assuredly hit something — and from the pink shards of shrapnel that now fill the air, it's not a difficult guess to work out what it is that's just been obliterated.

Several of you figured out the rather explosive properties of those mysterious crystals during earlier parts of the battle, didn't you? And it turns out, what happens when those crystals are charged with the sheer energy of a Primal Legendary's might is nothing short of an apocalypse.

The ground shakes; the world is blinding white. A deafening roar fills the air.

It's so bright, in fact, that you might just miss the shimmering translucent rainbow of Protect around yourself; it's certainly bright enough that you'll miss noticing it enveloping your Pokemon as well.

Whatever's just happened, it looks as though someone or something very much wants you to survive it.]
