[This would be a Fuji, commandeering this bench, music sheets in hand. He's flipping through them with a look of contemplation on his face, absently unscrewing the lid on the canister of coffee that he brought along with him. Now-a-days, it's a little rare to see him about without being engaged in an argument or doing something questionable with food and whatnot, and he knows this too -- which is why he looks like he's enjoying this little bit of time off from full-time weirdness.

It's piano music, marked in black and white. There's also a Froslass hanging over his shoulder, breath misty in the warm, afternoon air. As the afternoon wears on, she starts humming tunelessly, and he chuckles, pointing out notes to her in low tones.

It's just a very lazy afternoon.]

Sounds like a lot has happened to you, though -- how long have you been here, again?

... [ grimacing slightly, before she releases a sigh. ] Eleven months-- it'll be a year on June 5th.

That long, huh. Your birthday must've passed already.

... Thaaat's a little complicated. Technically, I haven't had one yet.

[............. well, he's already gathered that she's not a leap year baby. It doesn't take long for him to figure this one out.]

So it's sometime between now and June 5th? Funny, how things work.

Would you believe it? One minute it's March, and the next, I've gone and missed my birthday by just a few days. [ it hadn't bugged her; Chie and Yukiko had been the only familiar people back then, and she'd been far more concerned with what to do with her new blue radish than anything else. ]

And so you ended up waiting for your birthday for a whole extra year. [this is kind of intriguing, in a way. how old would she be now?] But, well, do you know what they say -- good things come those who wait. Maybe they're gearing up for a big one.

By how many days is 'a few days'?

[ probably still younger than Fuji if they'd been in the same world, considering she was fifteen in 2011. She's honestly not sure if she'd be sixteen or seventeen by that point. ]

It'd be fun to celebrate it with everyone here, but that's a little harder with everyone getting scattered all the time! Anyway, it was by four days.

It's probably a good idea to figure out your vocal range, anyway. You don't know off-hand, do you?

Tenor, actually. But I do better with the harmonies, so I was generally assigned the alto parts.

Tenor's not bad! If you've done that much... did they teach you the right way to breathe?

Hm... then take a deep breath. Just right now.

[blinks at Rise, and does so. it looks like he's got some of the diaphragm breathing down, though it's painfully obvious that it's been adapted for sports.]

Should've figured... [ she's settling into Work Mode, so she's quite possibly looking more focused than usual. Sure, she might not have actually given voice lessons before, but having junior idols in the company meant helping on occasion. ]

Okay-- do that again, but this time, I want you to sing a note, and hold it as long as you can. [ easier to tell how much of that is breath support when she hears it in action. ]

[... the change isn't something that he's used to seeing on Rise. he doesn't know her all that well, really -- but he'll be watching on curiously. and obeying, somewhat. if it's interesting, then he's willing to go along.

therefore, he sings a note! it... comes out relatively clear, and since he has an above average lung capacity, he's able to hold it for... above average. however, he's not very efficient for the capacity he does have, because he didn't breathe from the diaphragm before he started the note. a wince, afterward.]

Mm, I think I'm still not used to hearing my own voice belt out notes, really.

It's not bad, though. But you've got to remember-- before you sing any note, you need to breathe in deep from your diaphragm. [ and she's taking a breath to demonstrate. ] Don't let your throat catch the breath at all, or you'll end up with a shallow note and gasping partway. It's kind of like not stretching before dancing-- or sports, in your case. It'll mess you up in the end.
