[To say that John was "looking forward" to his second date with Rose would be a gross understatement. He had barely been able to sleep the night before they left and ended up knocking on Rose's door at five in the morning because he'd finally given up on the notion of sleep entirely. Plus, weren't you supposed to leave early for camping trips?]

[Unsurprisingly, Rose hadn't expected him that early. She'd given him a very bleary look, stepped back into her room to give her clock a bleary look and then asked "...are we leaving 'lready?"]

[Even less surprisingly...she'd fallen right back asleep the minute they had both clambered inside Elliot and gone on their way. But that was okay. Because she had fallen asleep on John's shoulder and he had absolutely no qualms with that at all.]

[And then a few hours later, his excitement wore off and he too fell asleep. Wow, their trip was off to a great start already!]

[Elliot wasn't the fastest pokemon but fortunately, being a ghost, he didn't really need a lot of sleep. So their four day trip ended up taking only two. Once inside the forest, Elliot went back inside his ball for some much needed rest while the two kids shouldered their packs and began walking through the forest, hand-in-hand.]

[Surely this was going to be the best camping-trip-dino-hunt-vacation-date-extravaganza ever! ~~Also possibly the first ever, because seriously, who besides John would come up with something as crazy as this?~~]

Mmm...well it's good for those of us that don't remember. Personally, I don't want to remember it. I'm actually kind of glad that I was unconscious for the whole thing, as weird as that may seem. I imagine it probably sucks for you since you still do. But...all in all I'd say it's a good thing that almost nobody remembers.

[[There's a small shrug and a tiny, empty chuckle.]]

I've survived this long without Karkat now. And he...survived even longer without me. It's no big deal.

Yeah that. And he doesn't remember that...does he?

No, he doesn't, though I did make him aware of it.

Oh? [And emotional turmoil is a-go. So good to have all these ~feelings~ back. Only not really.] And...how did that go?

...well, first he apologized that he doesn't remember and doesn't know me well enough to know how to take it, then proceeded to tell me he will take all of my help in a completely platonic manner, and then he told me to keep my pity to myself after I advised him against working himself to exhaustion. You tell me.

[Aaand the fact that he's actually glad to hear that just makes him hate himself a little more. Because he shouldn't be glad over something that Rose is clearly upset about. He's silent for a while, trying to figure out what to say next.]

[Except wait...]

I thought that was a platonic quadrant.

[He doesn't understand trollmance all that well but the way Karkat explained moirallegiance sure made it sound platonic.]

[[Sigh.]]

In a sense, it is. While there can be hugging between two moirails, it is completely platonic beside. However, because it is considered a 'relationship', when one is trying to say they do not want any moirail-type pity, they say that it is 'platonic' between them to indicate there are no pale feelings.

[And then this is the part where he wraps his arm around her shoulder and gives her a little squeeze. Because he's failing at verbal comfort and he knows it. So...hopefully this will make up for it.]

[He nuzzles her head with his cheek a little, falling silent once again. Were he having this conversation with anybody else, he would know exactly what to say. But this is Rose. And even though it's a different quadrant, he doesn't want her to try and rekindle this.]

[Eventually though, he thinks of something else to say instead.]

You know...if you wanted...uh... [Come on John, use your words here.] I could...be your moirail.

[[At first she doesn't know what to say to that. Then she chuckles, lifting a hand to wipe at her eyes a little. There aren't any tears, but it feels like there are, or like they're trying to be there. Pulling away, she leans up to give his cheek a kiss.]]

John, you are very, very sweet. I hope you know that.

Mmm...not as sweet as you.

[He was being serious though, Rose. He wasn't trying to be sweet.]

[[Serious or otherwise, it was still very sweet.]]

So I know. [Another nuzzle and a pause.] So how about it?

Well, while I certainly wouldn't mind having someone as wonderful as you as a moirail, neither of us really need it do we? [[Let's see if she can't explain moirallegiance to him.]]

Moirails are usually born out of the need one troll has for one.

[He's silent for a moment. Explain away, Rose. Just don't expect it to have too much of an effect.]

But...I need you. And I would hope that you...never mind.

[[Explanation can wait.

He just said he needed her and she's not really sure how to take that.

Even though she feels Karkat needs her, he never said that to her. This is very new, this is very much coming from her boyfriend whom she loves (and has a hard time admitting that still)...wat do?]]

[[........and now she's come to something she's going to have a hard time admitting.]]

I didn't mean it like that, John. A moirail is there to keep another troll from doing...reckless things. Stupid things. Things that could potentially put themselves and other trolls in danger. Like...for example, do you remember when Eridan made that post about how everyone simply needed to 'get over' the fact he killed Kanaya and Feferi? How it wasn't that big of a deal?

[Why is Eridan suddenly the topic of conversation? John does not understand.]
