mommy and daddy are fighting again
Who:
chemwhiz and
hackintheaster (plus
allmyraeg later on)
Where: Edge of the National Park, near the split for Routes 36 and 37.
When: BACKDATED to Tuesday, October 18
Summary: Wally is a jerk. Robin is a bitch. Conner thinks they're both idjits.
Rating: PG
Log: Wally has been on edge for weeks. It all started when Rob borrowed Junior to train his stupid Zubat, and it only snowballed from there, gathering up all of their issues—communication, team leader, training—into one giant mass of anger and frustration. It shouldn't have gotten this bad—he should have just apologized the next day for overreacting—but he didn't. He let it get out of hand, he let it get to him—and now everything's getting to him, to the point that he's honestly just looking for a fight, just to get it out of his system. But trying to pick a fight with Rob is like trying to pick a fight with a brick wall, and it's only made Wally more frustrated, festering in his own indignance, letting it build up and up and up, until one day he won't be able to take it anymore and he'll finally just explode.
That day happens to be today, although he doesn't yet know that. Conner, Midori, and Artemis have been pretty good distractions for the almost two day trek through Route 35 and the National Park, but it's been pretty much impossible to completely avoid Rob while they've been going the same direction, and it hasn't helped that every interaction they have had has either been sarcastic or passive-aggressive. But they're finally nearing the split for Routes 36 and 37, meaning they can finally just ignore each other and hopefully get over themselves while they're apart. It helps that he'll be seeing Megan again soon.
It doesn't help that the girls and Conner have suddenly disappeared somewhere—probably just a ruse to get Robin and Wally alone to sort out their problems, but Wally is not in a sorting out problems kind of mood. No, now he's entered the silent treatment phase, but it probably won't last long considering he's Wally and he's always got an indignant remark up his sleeve. Plus, he's still itching for a fight, so even the littlest thing could tip him over...

But Wally has been testing his patience, and it's only a matter of time before he snaps.
Okay, sure, yeah, he's been kind of a prick. But judging from everyone's performance in the tournament, they needed someone to get everyone back on track. Wally's been wandering around for months, and granted, he didn't really have the necessary connections to put his plan into action without Robin and Conner here, still. Two months. And what has he done for those two months? He's gone around telling everyone his secret identity and ate.
Yeah yeah yeah, low blow, but still. At this point it was pretty accurate to say that Robin was kind of pissed off at the speedster. Especially since all he seemed to do for the entire trip they made to the National Park was make side-swiping, sarcastic comments about every order and idea and even a simple comment that Robin ever made. He was pretty good at letting Wally get mad at him and then cool off, but even now this ws getting ridiculous.
But he couldn't let it get to his head. He had to keep playing the leader even if it meant Wally was pissed at him, because that's what leaders do. That's what Batman does. So that's what he's going to do.
And that's where he finds himself. The girls and Conner are missing, Wally's off doing his attempt at brooding (which Robin has to say he's completely ruined for, because he will always compare brooders to Batman, and there's no way you can win that fight), and he thinks: screw it. Better now than never.
So he walks over to where Wally is hanging about, fidgeting and probably wishing Robin hadn't comanderred everyone's snacks so as he couldn't sneak any of them. Which, aha, perfect idea Rob. Go and talk to him about his weight while he's pissed at you. Because that's not totally dickish in any way.
"So I'll probably give all the food to Conner and the schedule for when to eat. You can keep to that, right? Without snacking?"

"Dude, could you be more overbearing? I don't know what goes on in that little bird brain of yours, but if you keep going all mother hen all up in my face, I will punch you in yours."
The worst part is, he is 100% serious. Normally it'd be an empty threat, but Robin knows just how to make him tick, and he can honestly say he's done enough ticking the past few weeks he could be a freaking clock. So, needless to say, clocking Robin would feel really great right about now.
no subject
And maybe some part of Robin really just wants to yell back.
"Dude, could you be more lazy? I feel like I have to play mother hen with you or you won't get anything done." The threat though, knowing (/thinking) that it's empty, makes him want to laugh.
So he does, and he adds the eyeroll just for effect.
"Like you could catch me."
no subject
"Watch me," he growls, and then his right fist proceeds to connect with Robin's jaw. I hope Robin ordered a knuckle sandwich, because Wally just delivered one.
no subject
That is his first reaction. Complete and utter shock. Not from the punch, because Robin's been punched before. Not from the pain because one, it hasn't quite set in yet and two, he's been punched harder. Sure, the force behind Wally's fist was enough to make him step back to keep balance, but it took a moment before he actually felt it, and realized what just happened.
Wally had punched him.
He looked up at his
best friendteammate, eyes still a bit wide. "Did you just...?"But then his training kicks in, and his eyes narrow. It takes maybe half a moment before he's kicked Wally in the stomach, a gut-shot to lean him forward, before dropping to the ground and kicking out his legs. If this was Wally's tantrum, so be it, but he is going to end it now.
"Are you really going to take me on in a hand-to-hand fight when you don't have your powers? Really?"
no subject
So he picks himself back up, stands his ground, and just smirks. He's definitely feeling some sort of rush from all this.
"Don't need my powers to beat up a thirteen-year-old circus act."
no subject
And now he's smirking back, because this is a game. As much as his chin is starting to hurt, and will most likely swell and bruise, this is Wally he's fighting. Wally without powers, and while the kid might be stubborn, he's not experienced.
Then Wally moves at him, running forward to do...something. Robin doesn't even know what Wally is planning on doing since most of his fighting style is based off of his speed, which he doesn't have. So Rob jumps, pushing his hands on Wally's shoulders and flipping over him, turning quickly and kicking out his feet. If he can slow him down enough, tire him out, maybe Wally will give up, because he has to make Wally give up, realize he's wrong, realize Robin is the leader.
And for some reason that give Robin a rush, and instead of letting Wally get back up again to knock him known, he climbs up on his back, driving his knee right at the bottom of Wally's ribs. It takes him a moment to grab one of Wally's arms, but then he's got it pinned behind his back, pushing it up against his spine, leaning down so Wally could hear him as he spoke.
"What were you planning on doing, Wally? Knocking me out? I always fight on these terms, against all the same villains as you do. You can't win."
no subject
It wasn't originally about winning, but now... Now Wally's determined, even if he knows Robin's right, that there's no way he can win—because if there's one thing Wally hates more than anything, it's feeling completely and utterly powerless (especially at the hand of his
best friendown teammate)."You—are so—full of it—"
Practically the sheer force of his words allow him to roll onto the arm Robin has pinned, knocking Robin off of him (with an added elbow to Robin's side), giving him enough time to pin Robin to the ground. He's not even going to try and stop himself now, he's that pissed, so he's basically throwing punches repeatedly as he shouts until Rob either punches him back or kicks him or something.
"You think you're so great because you're the Boy Wonder—you think you can just do whatever you want—that everyone should follow your lead. But you're not, you can't, and they shouldn't. You're just some stupid kid from the circus who couldn't even save his—"
And that's when he has to stop. Not because he's tired or giving up or suddenly over himself—no, because he knows that is the point of no return, and he almost crossed over into it. He honestly never thought he'd ever get that close, but apparently there really is a first time for everything. He knows he's going to regret all of this later (I mean, sheesh, talk about harsh), but for now he's still too pissed to be thinking that clearly.
no subject
And now he's pinned under Wally, his slightly larger size making it very difficult to manouver out from under him, and Wally is throwing punches without rest. Robin has his arms up in a defensive position to protect his face, because he cannot afford to work with shock and possibly even a concussion, but as a result that takes his arms out of any possible move out of that position.
That's when he clues in to what Wally's saying, and just how much anger and frustration is coming through, and for a brief moment he feels anger build up in him and then just stop.
Not only does the rising anger freeze, but Robin is pretty sure his heart does too, as well as his brain, for the briefest of moments. Just long enough for Wally to get a hit in, and then another, and Robin barely even notices. He freezes because he knows where Wally was planning on going with that comment, and just the reminder that...just the possibility of that being brought up...
But then Robin is locking down, his training kicking in, and just as he feels bruises and possibly a split lip begin to form he's pitching up his legs and wrapping them around Wally's shoulders, pulling him down with enough force to pull him off and Robin is rolling to the side and finding his footing. The punches Wally landed were starting to bring a ringing inside Robin's head, but he ignores it, turning back to the former Kid Flash with a dark look. A look that he reserved for the very few, one that even Batman hadn't seen.
Wally is still in the midst of getting up off the ground when Robin moves, jumping up and using the branch of a tree to propel a kick to Wally's ribs, knocking him back against a tree. When he lands and starts punching, it's nothing like Wally's rage. Instead of centering in on a particular place, like the face, Robin's fists make contact with various pressure points, joints, bones, etc. All the places he was taught to hit, all the places that will hurt, but won't necessarily kill. He doesn't even know he's talking until he hears a rough echo of his own voice muttering "Glad to know how you really feel." as he drops down to avoid a before bouncing back up to hit right under Wally's jaw.

maritalspats over who should be leader or what the other is sticking in his mouth) he went about his business and explored the park. A few minutes later silence broke out, and even though he didn't have his super hearing he knew something was up. Rolling his eyes he gave a sigh as he began searching for the two.And thankfully, he found them just in time. From the looks of it, it looked like the fight had just sort of started? As he drew closer he could hear what they were talking about. Though, really, he heard them about a mile away from all the yelling they were doing. Sprinting as fast as he could he barreled straight into Robin before he could do any more damage. "What the heck has gotten into you two?!" He yelled angrily.
no subject
Then there's the massive headache pounding against his cranium, and he's having a hard time focusing on what's going on until Conner is screaming at them, which makes Wally wince just slightly. He wipes the blood from the corner of his mouth with the back of his hand, still trying to play Mr. Cool, like none of this affects him and he's totally fine, even though he just got the shit beat out of him by his best friend because he almost crossed a line he never should have even gotten close to. And he's still got enough pent up rage to go another round, but he knows he'd only be fighting a losing battle—and he'd have to go through Conner to get to Robin, which would be even dumber than trying to fight Robin in the first place—so all he can do at this point is answer Conner, indignant as ever.
"You guys wanted us to work out our problems, so here we are."

Even so, Robin can't help the way he glares at Wally, what with all the unadulterated rage moving through him, all directed at
his best friendteammate. Can he even call Wally his teammate right now? Do teammates act like this towards each other? He takes a moment to catch his breath, though, feeling the bruises and what is most likely a black eye and busted lip start to set in, but he doesn't even care. No, Robin won't stop staring, because if he calms down too much, everything else will set in. Like how this whole fight really is his fault, because he's an inadequate leader, so much that Wally...and then that comment, or almost comment, or whatever it is you want to call it. A flash of Wally's face when he said it, what he meant, the sinking feeling in Robin's chest isn't just from the fight. Not after that.
He jerks himself from Conner's hold and straightens his jacket, swallowing the blood that has already started to form where one of his teeth cut through his lip. "It doesn't matter anymore." he says cooly, straightening his glasses last and looking from Conner to Wally with an extremely pointed look. He has to keep up the image. "Go pick up Megan, Artemis and I will meet up with you in Ecruteak when you get back." And with that he turns and walks off, holding composure, holding the image. That's what Batman taught him, that's how Batman acts, and that's how he will too.

"We wanted you to talk your problems out Wally. NOT to punch one another!" This is why neither of you lead the team. But to say that out loud would be adding salt on to both of their wounds. Also, Rob-- he's totally letting that order slide by for now, but so help him if you're like this when Megan's around he'll personally take care of it.
