After finally getting away from Karkat and his ridiculous nonsense, Vriska spends a little while, just sitting there, thinking of all the different things. Things from back home and things from Johto. Regrets, which she does have, though it's none of Karkat's fucking business.

With a frustrated sigh, she grabs her gear again and sends a text to John.

Hey, where are you?

He's caught a little off guard at that. He wasn't sure what he was expecting, but apparently it wasn't that. after a moment or so, he starts scribbling an answer out in his notebook. Apparently, his answer is just too long to attempt to lisp it out.

not really,
no. because i have you and rose and jade and karkat here! plus all the other people i have met from different worlds like luke and our other father.
i'm not saying life back home was terrible or anything, because it really wasn't. but at the same time, it really wasn't anything worth missing.
at least not when you compare it to a place like this.

i do miss my dad though.
he is pretty much the one exception.

She glances over his shoulder as he writes, curiously. And she can't help but roll her eyes only a little at the part with his dad. His parental lusus figure seems to be his one exception to everything.

"You know, that's basically how I think of it. Though I don't miss my lusus." She shrugs, and pulls her knees up.

"There are some things I miss from back home. But I think most of that's stuff from Alternia. Things that aren't even relevant anymore. And being on the Meteor wasn't the worst, but it wasn't a fucking picnic either.

"This place might lack death defying adventure excitement, but I guess it's got it's props."

It's got people, it's got creatures. It has it's challenges which Vriska fully expects to take on. And it's got her friends, mostly. There's Tavros, who she's gotten an entire second chance with. And even if that Tavros is gone she still got the opportunity.

He just really misses him, okay? Come January it will have been two years since the last time he saw him. Other Father is wonderful and John loves him just as much as he loves his dad but...that desire to see him again just won't go away.

there are definitely worse places to be stuck!

He giggles a little at that.

so what brought this up?
why the sudden nostalgia for home?

"Eh, Karkat decided to get nosy and asked if I ever regretted my actions from back home. Like I'm some cold bitch that lacks basic motivations or some shit? I meant what a dumb question. It's not like I like killing my friends!"

More like she doesn't like sharing her feelings of remorse on killing her friends. With John it's okay. With John it's different. John doesn't really judge her like the others would. But having to tell Karkat was just plain dumb.

He frowns a little, quirking a brow.

And then he hastily adds.

Because obviously he knows what brought that up just now, he did!

She shrugs. "I guess he had some heartfelt feelings jam with Eridan or some shit. Now he's got me thinking about things though. I have a lot better things to be doing that thinking about all the stupid shit that happened back home."

Because thinking about this stuff is giving her feelings, and god forbid there be feelings.

well let's put those better things on hold for a second. because thoughts are like burps. they're better out than in.

well some thoughts, anyway. you know! like troubling ones or ones that make you feel weird wow let's just pretend i didn't make this analogy.

He scribbles out the last few lines. It's like that embarrassment never happened now! You totally didn't read it Vriska.

Why he drew a smiley face when she can clearly see that he's smiling is anybody's guess. Could be a force of habit, could be a double reassurance that everything will be okay or it could just be because John doesn't see why the fuck not.

That analogy (that totally didn't happen, because Vriska's okay with pretending he never wrote those words. Burps John? Really?) earns him a weird look at first, but it eventually morphs into a small smile.

"Just thinking about all the stuff I guess I regret and wondering about second chances. I mean, I got a second shot with Tavros and I thought it went pretty damn well, until he up and disappeared. Now things are weird again."

and even if things are weird, you managed it once, right? so it's not like it's impossible to patch things up with him again.

sucks that you have to but that's one of the negatives about johto that unforutnately, we can't control.

But oh how he wishes there was an off switch on whatever force it is that sends people back home.
