Vanitas didn't really know how to do a date, but he had really basic ideas from all of those damn romantic comedy movies Karkat has watched over the months. Leaving a note taped to the sleepy-heads forehead saying to meet him for lunch at "Josie's Diner" was the first part. While he didn't exactly dress up, Vani made sure to wear clothes that weren't dirty or for travel. Sneakers, jeans, t-shirt with a sleeved zip up sweatshirt... that's about as nice as it gets.

Standing outside the diner with his hands in his pockets to keep himself from looking antsy, Vanitas thought over his "plan". First stop was lunch, second was a movie, then... wander the city? Can't hurt. He remembers a few neat places from the last time he was here. Scrunching his face in thought though, he frowns a touch.

Does that all sound right for a date? Sounds kind of... simple, now that it's already in motion. Craaaappppp.

Able to quirk a half smile at that, Vanitas nodded; he'll remind him, after he's done strangling the old man for all the pain he's caused.

"The X-blade is the only way to reach a light source called Kingdom Hearts. It can be used to create a world of the persons choosing, I assumed. If he could open the door, he could do whatever he wanted, world creation wise. Either way, the people with the Keyblades fought over the light, until it was nearly gone and the people were strewn about the worlds. Because light exists in the hearts of children, the worlds were able to recover, but none of them were connected anymore."

"I think I understood that well enough. Making a universe was what were doing in Sgrub, actually."

Tips his head, he'll have to ask about Sgrub sometime. He only knows the bits and pieces, but Vanitas has always wondered if it would be a bad memory to bring up. Still though, he winds up looking down at their joined hands, giving Karkat's a squeeze again.

"I wonder if one of those worlds out there in mine, could possibly be yours. It's not as though I went to every world I came across, so some could be similar to the stars of your world and just be suns, instead of the light of a world."

"If you have the ability to traverse universes, Vanitas, I'm sure you could run into the stupid meteor or hell, the universe frog that represents the one I live in."

"Heh, I hope so," Cracking a smile again, Vani looks up to meet his gaze, continuing, "because if I wake up and find myself separate from Ventus still, somehow, since he insists I should exist.. then I'll come find you."

Did Vanitas know how touching that was? Because Karkat was back to staring, cheeks pink. "Guess I could wait..."

The stare has him a little self concious of the words, but they're true, so he simply keeps smiling. Reaching up with his free hand, Vani lightly smooths his fingers over one of those pink cheeks.

"Good."

All the while Karkat leaned into the touch. His eyes shut and he just soaked in the moment. Vanitas really did adore Karkat. He felt it in every word and gesture. It would continue to battle him, even as he sighed.

Giving his cheek a playful, gentle pinch, Vani wound up smiling sweeter and leaned to nudge his nose against Karkat's forehead. It was nice just to stand here like this, hands together and really, Karkat was making a ridiculously cute expression.

That thought wasn't exactly in Karkat's mind. His fingers caught on Vanitas' chin. He brought the other down for a soft little kiss.

His breath caught in his throat and for a moment, just a moment, Vanitas blinked with wide eyes at the simple little press. Shutting them and working his mouth, he returned the gesture, pushing his mouth forward to return it as a kiss. It's nothing really short of clumsy but it sparks his cheeks pink in the knowledge that this is a kiss.

Karkat kept it light, really. He forgot this would have been Vanitas' first one. First kiss, that was. In fact, he sort of forgot that Vani wasn't really into kissing at all. The reaction was kind of a reminder of that. So he left it at one and pulled back, bushing all the way to his ears.

Really, he's taking back everything he ever said about kissing. When Karkat pulls back, Vanitas tips his head, somewhat "chasing", nudging a second kiss. It's still soft and light, wanting to make sure he got it right.

With a little bit of a snort, Karkat gave in. He was amused, but kept this quick as well. "I should have waited until the third date, but fuck if you're not just pathetically adorable right now."

Snuffs gently at "pathetically adorable", but he winds up smiling sweet, his cheeks still a nice hue of red and his ears taking the same shade. "I think I'm going to take back everything I ever said or thought about kissing being gross." Honestly, Vanitas is glad he didn't wait.

"I told you that you would. Idiot," Karkat said with a little grin. "Kissing is fucking amazing."

Scooping his palm against his cheek now, Vanitas rubs nose to nose with a chuckle, struggling not to downright beam a smile. "Yeah, I like it."

"There will be more to come," he snorted. His thumb rubbed at Vani's lip for a moment. There was silence. Comfortable silence while Karkat bit his lip.

"What else did you want to show me?

Lowering his eyes to watch Karkat's hand the best he could, Vanitas lifted his eyes again after a few minutes with that comfortable silence.

"There's a coffee shop down here somewhere that's open till late. They have baked snacks too that I came for, rather than the coffee, but now that I can drink it without making a face..."

"A coffee sounds fucking amazing right about now."

In other words, please. Karkat pulled his hand away and made a gesture for Vanitas to lead the way.

Smiles, and squeezing the hand he still has firmly in his grip, Vanitas leads them further down the street and up one of the alleys near the edge of town; it's tucked across the street from the arcade, which at least let's them find that along the way!

Opening the door and leading him in, it's pretty quaint looking inside in comparison to the city being so large and rather bustling. It almost looks like a coffee shop that would be in a way smaller town.

Karkat made a mental note as to where that arcade was. Otherwise he followed along silently, moving through the door and to the counter to get a good look. What about a white chocolate mocha? That sounded pretty good at the moment.

There are some signs about the new season flavors, along with usual items. Vanitas gestures gently for him to order first, because he's still looking.

"Fuck the white chocolate mocha. I need to try the pumpkin spice."

[shadowdive]

"It sounded pretty good to me too." Quirking a smile at the words, he words and the barista gets to work making the drinks while Vanitas fishes out money.
