There's no way to tell, unfortunately. Females have to have this form, but males can evolve into it, too, by leveling up. [Pulling out the 'dex and showing Bro what a Gardevoir looks like, now.]

Still, they have a common trait, I've found. They're very fiercely loyal to their trainers, and would go to any lengths to protect them.
