[ to be fair, Karkat hadn't been in a great amount of pain this week. something he has noticed, though, is that his clothes are just not fitting quite right. feels sort of like it's a thing that just happened, but he knows otherwise. ever since November, Karkat's been having to buy more clothes than what is necessary and tossing out the old.

that's mostly why he's agreed to this mini trip with Kanaya. that and it's kind of good to be out and about. flying is really the best thing there is, all right.

upon touching down, it's around lunch time. which means the first tough decision is, well... ]

Anything you feel up to trying or do you want to go the safe route with food you already know?

[ he rolls his eyes. kind of... insulting to pokes everywhere, that. ]

I need to get something for Valentines, but I don't know what yet.

Karkat, for the context of making your pillow fort smell, they are. Blanket fort. Whatever.

[She hesitates, looking into one of the counters again. Everything was more expensive than she had expected...]

[ things are a little pricey, as far as Pokémon stuff goes. Karkat hesitates to offer any $$. Kanaya might want to pay for it herself, though he doesn't mind paying the difference.

It's the humans' romantic holiday. Mid February.

[She is scribbling notes on her shopping list as she turns back to him, but an amused smile tugs at the corner of her lips as she considers him.]

Are you buying something romantic for Vanitas?

I was going to. The problem is that I really don't know what to get him.

Hmm. Well, what does he like?

[She looks around.]

And do you know where they keep those evolution stones?

[ Karkat starts to head towards the right elevator. if he remembers this right it's on a different floor. ]

That's the hard part. He would like anything I go thim.

[She tucks her list away as she follows.]

Yes, but what does he like to do?

Lately he's been learning how to dance and cook. Usually he just like sparring and shit like that.

A cookbook then?

[It seemed obvious to her.]

...Somehow I can't picture Vanitas with a book. Can you?

If he wants to learn to cook, that is the standard way, he may have to make an exception.

And it isn't as though there is a lot of reading involved.

I'll think about it. It's not like I have any other ideas besides a really, really nice dinner at this point.

Karkat, I have been on exactly one date, and received exactly no romantic gifts in my entire life. Nothing is cliche to me.

[She shrugs, and then hesitates when they reach the evolution stone counter, peering into it excitedly.]

You know the holiday isn't ONLY for couples. Important people also tend to get things.

[ which means he is now likely going to find something to get you, Kanaya. ]

I need two fire stones, an everstone, and a dawn stone, I think.

Aradia heard that sometimes people give chocolate and other things to each other too. The problem is, I think your convention is at the same time, which kind of sucks. Bad timing.

[ the NPC at the counter starts to package everything up. all your stones will be in a neat little bag, Kan. ]

[She pays and then does a quick tally of her money and frowns.]

I am never going to afford everything I wished to purchase.

[And then back to him.]

You know... I think I'd like that. Exchanging stuff. It's not something that happened last year.

I have been working since we arrived in Vermillion, Karkat. But that did not give me nearly enough money.

[She frowns at her list.]

Those small discs that contain pokemon moves.

[ Karkat usually goes into the Center. it usually pays the best. ]

TMs. You can use all of my HMs, you know. All you have to do is ask.

The pokemon center. It seemed a reasonable place to work while still attempting to learn what I can about breeding habits.

[She nods.]

Which ones do you have?

Best place, besides the Lighthouse. By now I have every HM and those don't break.

I will need to borrow those, then.

[She frowns at her list.]

I am attempting to teach Sunshine and Snipsnap every TM they can learn, so that I can breed them together. But it will cost...quite a lot.

I also have Shadow Ball as an unbreakable TM. You can use it too, since I know a lot of different types can learn that ghost move.

[ Karkat peers at the list and nearly winces. yes, it's going to cost a lot. ]

You know... Every gym leader you beat gives you at least two to three times more money, right?
