It was a nice night.

Probably the most simplistic description ever, but it was the best description Twilight could think of. Seated outside, mug of hot chocolate in her hands, watching the Illumise and Volbeat mating dance above them, that was the best description she could think of. Nice.

She'd come out here to just enjoy the night and think for a while, not ever having been one to go in for Hearts and Hooves Celebrations anyway, but as time passed and she watched the bug Pokemon, she found herself thinking that there was really only one thing that could make this moment better.

[She takes the mug, and then swallows a HUGE gulp before speaking.]

[She glances at the table, then pulls out two chairs, and plops into one, staring down at her own mug for a moment.]

You weren't going to do that. What changed your mind?

She kept asking and asking who it was that left me, where I got the ring from, and she wouldn't let it go, and I... I snapped.

[as much as somepony like Shy can 'snap'.]

Oh. So, she saw the ring... Yeah, I guess knowing her, it's not surprising she couldn't let the issue go after that. She probably thought she could help you if she just knew who it was.

... So, how did she take it?

... She wants to keep going.

... Did she get her memories back and none of us knew?

[3_butterflies]

No... She says she will someday, and wants to take it slow, and that she already 'loves me to death.' I-I told her I didn't want to force anything out of guilt, but she said it was okay...

Well, that's... huh. That... sort of lines up with one of the possibilities I'd considered.

It does?

Yes. Specifically, that she'd fall in love with you all over again.

[3_butterflies]

[BLUSH.]

I... I guess... that's... possible...

Well, it's not as if there's not precedent, right? If it happened once, who's to say it can't happen again? In fact I'd argue that makes it more likely.

[She smiles a little at that.]

... On Hearts and Hooves day, no less.

Oh I think this is just the result of buildup. Cadence always said that this sort of thing takes time.

Though... I guess that means there's something I should confess.

[She lowers her head, staring into her mug again with a guilty face.]

[Oh god, she doesn't know how many confessions she can handle in a week.]

I, um... oh jeez this is really awkward, but I kind of...

[She looks up like a chastened child, clearly not looking forward to Shy's answer to that one.]

[There's the Equestrian version of a carcrash happening in her head.]

It was an accident, I swear! I was leaning over to peck her on the nose and I slipped! I didn't mean...

[She cuts off, lowering her head even more and letting her hair cover her face.]

I didn't mean to...

[Oh for celestia's sake, is that all? She exhales deeply.]

Oooh, an accident! Well of course! Why didn't you say that first?

You... You're okay with it?

[She raise her head out of her hands tentatively, giving Fluttershy a look that's guilty, confused, and hopeful all at once. There are tears in her eyes. Yes, she does think this is something Fluttershy should be angry with her for.

[She reaches over to take her hand.]

It was only an accident. We're affectionate with each other all the time. You didn't mean anything else with it.

Well, no, but...

[She bites her lip and lowers her face again.]

I did kind of like it... And I didn't break it off as soon as I could have... And if I hadn't been so close to her in the first place-

[Fluttershy, for both your sakes, interrupt her, please.]

[She says incredibly quickly.]

[Well that makes her jerk her head up, if only in shock.]

Ah, um... you're sure? Absolutely, positively certain?

I'd really like not to hear anymore. But. Um. As long as you don't 'like' like Applejack, I think it's okay... sort of...
