*glancing up at the sun that's starting to set while they take a break to rest their pokemon*

We should start looking for a place to spend the night soon.

[Apollo looks over at him.]

It's still going to be light out for a while longer. We can look once it gets darker.

*raising an eyebrow*

Have you been this way before?

Then there's no reason to take chances.

What chances would we be taking?

There's no guarantee of finding a good place to camp anyway, but it's even less likely if you put it off until it's too dark to see. And if we want to make good time, everyone needs to be well-rested.

It isn't too cloudy and the new moon won't be for a few days. There will still be enough light to see.

Even if we get lucky, it'll take longer to find a good site and do any foraging. If you're worried about making good time, make sure you can rest and eat well in between traveling.

I've never had trouble traveling here before when I waited until it got dark to stop.

Do you sleep better when it rains on you?

No. But it's probably not going to rain tonight. [Insert a description of the indicators he's using to predict the weather here.] There are plenty of trees and bushes around to sleep under in case it does though.

Pushing yourself to go as far as you can isn't always a bad thing, but when there's a lot of ground to cover the best way to travel is to pace yourself. Find a place to camp with time to find and eat a good meal, rest well, and you'll be ready to travel the next day. I don't plan on pushing my team to exhaustion just because it seems faster.

[He's wondering if Geddoe's team gets tired easier than his, but he isn't going to ask. Stopping now won't make a huge difference in how long they take to get to Blackthorn and he isn't in a terrible hurry to get there anyways so he won't argue this any longer.]

*maybe another time Geddoe will actually have the patience to explain the concept of conserving one's strength to be able to travel long, indefinite distances....... maybe*

No. But we should be looking from now on.

On foot? Or from the air?

[He glances over at Golurk, sitting motionlessly nearby and giving no signs of how tired it might be as usual. It staying out of its ball for this long with strangers around is a huge improvement over its past behaviour.]

Can you tell from the air?

*because he's not actually sure HE can, not having traveled that way before now....*

Not very well. [He usually picks a spot from the air when he's flying somewhere, but...

He stands.]

I guess we'll look from the ground.

Then we can forage and let the team exercise as we go.

*because like Apollo, he's not really in the habit of keeping them in their balls more than necessary...*

[He nods back and starts walking, mentally calling out to his team to let them know he's moving. With him on this trip are Fearow, Furret, Sawsbuck, Golurk (who's making a beeline for Apollo so it can get back in its ball), Zangoose, and Archeops (Who seems to be under the impression that she'll be able to accomplish something in the gym battle. Even though Apollo's trying to be firmer with her she still isn't listening to him, but then again this is Apollo we're talking about so he can still dial up the firmness quite a bit before he can say it isn't working.).]

What do you usually look for in a good place to sleep?

[Because Geddoe has more experience doing this than him.]

*with Geddoe on this trip is Queen, Sana, Ace, Wyatt, Aila, and Hugo. other than Queen, who nearly always sticks by Geddoe's side, they're all pretty content to wander about as they please*

Shelter. Something that blocks the wind at least, though a cave or hollow that protects from any weather is better.

[Furret generally sticks close to Apollo, and Golurk of course is too shy to stay out of its ball much, but the others are wandering around too, mostly looking for wild Pokémon to battle.]

I haven't seen very many caves here. There are hollows and hills in a bunch of places though, and there are always trees and bushes if we can't find anything else.

[Apollo nods too and falls into step beside Geddoe on the side with the eyepatch, though that wasn't anything that he'd specifically planned. He'll keep an eye out too, especially for anything vaguely cave-like, as unlikely as it is that they'll find one. He associates caves with safety, since he's lived in one all his life.]
