Who: Tim Drake, Cassie Sandsmark, Dick Grayson
Where: Violet City
When: Sometime last week
Summary: A fateful meeting (in which Tim denies everything Dick is claiming and Cass is happily confused)
Rating: PG
Log:
[There were plans on moving again, sooner or later, though Tim was still stumped about how he feels about that thought knowing what he knows. Dick was in this city with them, going along with a girl named Katara he spoke through the gear. Nice girl, really friendly, didn't seem to know Robin and Dick were the same person. Still.
There's the problem in his head. If they move, then eventually he'll part ways with him. Not that he's complaining about a trip with Cassie, because the nice thing about being in Johto is that they actually have enough time to actually date and not just hope that they can have missions together to count for that. Living in two completely different cities with different timezones would've been one of the challenges they'd have faced back home (barring trying not to get killed every other week) had they been together longer, but that was moot here.
So yes, he's happy to spend as much time with his best friend/girlfriend/partner as he could, but this was his brother. Brother who didn't know he had a brother because time gaps and Tim didn't think it was appropriate to just go forth and tell him "Hey, just so you know, I'm your adopted brother in five years. I'll also be taking your current mantle by then." No. He's heard stories, albeit he didn't believe all of them, but he's heard stories. Besides, there's a matter of time distortion and possibly altering the future and how did Bart even do this?
So Tim settled for keeping an eye on him. Sometimes. Not always. He sometimes had a job to do, but during his free time he kind of skirts around in corners and hard to see places just to check up on him. No big deal. Okay, others would call it stalking, he calls it concern and the need to gather data. Cassie doesn't know, and will never know if he could help it, but it makes him feel better just watching Dick from afar and knowing he's doing well.
Well, that was before last night where he gave him the slip. Sure, he's been showing signs of suspicion, but he's never outright given Tim the slip. Which means it's probably a good time to try not to make him more paranoid. Besides, Dick wouldn't figure it's him right?
And all this is happening in his head while he waits for Cassie to finish getting ready as he stands outside the inn, playing with Marsh who was strangely in a good mood as his own paranoia kicks in for any signs of mad robins and flying batarangs.]

It was a new place and they didn't belong in it. If she had to guess she figured he was gathering information, making new contacts, researching leads, getting to know the place kinda stuff. So long as she could still see his name on the contact list she didn't really worry much. Tim was trained by some of the best and he'd call if he ever needed back up. Right? Right.
She's taking a little longer than she'd intended, because she's fallen into civilian habits here (because she's just leading a civilian life here) and that means that finding her things is going to be a chore, always. Her stuff is packed up tight by the time she makes it down, her backpack slung over one shoulder while she works it onto the other.]
Ready! Man, I can't wait to get on the road again- ... Hey, Tim- [Her expression is curious and the shift in demeanor is both subtle and not. He seems pretty far away from here and she knows that means he's got something important on his mind, to look that distracted.] -what's up? Everything alright?

I'm fine. I've just had a lot on my mind. [And that's it.] We still need to pick up some supplies before we go. Are you ready?

... Is it about Dick? [She is totally unaware that he's been stalking him, but it's hardly a far guess to assume that finding his older brother is not so old here is probably a little troubling. Bart is proof that relatives showing up from the future can complicate things, though she doesn't see the harm in sharing here since- A: They should stick together (regardless of five and a half year gaps), B: None of them will remember this upon going home, and C: They could probably both benefit from it once they got past the weird factor.
Just wait till she finds out he's been following him around...]

Yeah. [How do you explain this?] I don't really know how to talk to him. [So stupidly complicated only for Tim, really, because he knows what everyone else would say.] He's different at this age.

[She hopes, she thinks- both.]

You worry about the rest of us and what's best for us all the time. Someone's gotta worry about you, too.
[Not that he didn't take care of himself, but while he was worrying over how Dick would feel she wonders if he's giving his own feelings enough concern.] He might need some time to let it sink in after you tell him, and all, but maybe you guys can still have that bond here. You won't know unless you try, and I don't think you should pass it up. I know how important he is to you.
[Ahhhh that doesn't sound weird does it??]

But suddenly, the wingbeats increase in frequency and strength, as Johnny flaps with a purpose. Dick jerks his head up and chases after with a bit of a grimace.]
If Timmy fell down the well, he's probably got a Squirtle, you know!
[But Johnny saw a familiar bird in the distance and a familiar blonde head, and upon the adjacent shoulder he decides to park, with a polite caw for Emma. How've you been?]
2/idk I LIED
3/?
Both of you, actually.
[Definitely not to cool to flirt with Cassie.]
Good to see you for, uh, real, Cassie.
4/?
(Who'd notice a guy standing next to an Amazon demi-goddess, after all.)
And the detective in him takes two pieces and slots them in together.
1) This guy was kind of awkward to talk to.
2) This guy knows Cassie.
He rolls them around in his head for a bit, trying to see if he likes how they fit. Worth a stab.]

And flirt with his girlfriend.
And Tim has to pause and stare in surprise, not registering asap what was going on, but when it clicks he manages to give him a nasty glare-- lay off his girlfriend-- except he then realizes who he's glaring at (and kind of continues for a while longer because no, being his brother doesn't excuse it it makes it even worse)-- but falters because it's still Dick and a part of him wants to freak out (Did he hear us? Does he know? WhatdoIdo--) and then he speaks and
Tim tries to figure out what expression to make at all that, but somehow he thinks he ends up either looking angry or constipated and ends up having to clear his throat and duck his head (he should've worn his glasses except no the point was he isn't Robin here) for a moment before letting out a disgruntled sound before he manages to compose himself and actually talk.]
Huh? [Elonquent speech there, Tim.]

So when Donna hops down from her backpack and the Swellow lands on Cassie's shoulder she is- needless to say -a bit surprised. Donna stands between Cassie and Tim, beneath their linked hands, and watches the new exchange with interest.
Emma coos back and rustles her feathers in response, leaning her head into Dick's hand for a moment She naturally recognizes her previous caretaker.
The equivalent of all of this happening in the span of a few seconds is that Cassie is left feeling like she just got sucked into an Impulse tornado. What-]
2/???
DID THE BOSS. JUST CALL HER.
SWEET GIRL
Her brain cannot handle this.]

Uh, you too? [Sort of. How do you- re... spond...]
Okay WHAT just happened?

Dick's head cocks to the right, and a grin splits his face so broadly that he's barely keeping himself from doubling over and laughing.]
Cool your jets, space cadets.
Maybe next time you're on a date, you should tell Emma to scare people off, huh?
no subject
Gods, this would be easier if he's not remembering that Dick should be old-- except he is not going there because eww no, Dick, she's too young for you focus Tim.]
Good morning. [He manages to slip on a poker face, feeling a little defeated. Great. He wasn't quite ready to meet him yet.] I'm surprised to see you out and about so early. Going somewhere? [Take the focus off of them, please.]

I mean, wouldn't it be easier to just follow me after this? I was beginning to think you didn't want me to know you were there.
no subject
Still totally lost, here...
[Just in case that part wasn't clear. She looks at Tim.]
You followed him?
