[Just over a week since Naruto's announcement to all of Johto and Kanto that his birthday was coming up, the day had finally arrived.

Not too many people were expected to show up (since he did invite EVERYONE) and they'd managed to rent a function room in one of Goldenrod's restaurants for the day. There's plenty of chairs and tables, food, music playing and room to dance if people so wish, you know regular old party stuff.]

[It takes a few seconds for his words to hit the concern meter, and a few more as realization sinks in. The smile is completely wiped off her face. She... really shouldn't be surprised, since Mikoto had been a shinobi too. But learning that something had happened that Sasuke had grown up not knowing his mom... It broke her heart.]

Sasuke... I'm so sorry. She was really kind, and a great woman and a talented shinobi. Besides your faults, I'm sure she'd be proud of you if she could see you here and now.

Just about. Maybe a little less.

[Where Sasuke realizes it or not, there's a lot of weight behind those words. His mother acknowledging him visibly more than his father ever did. Always loving and caring for him, even if she could be stern. That was really all he knew about her though... He can't help wanting to know more now that the topic has been brought up. Does it just stop at his mom, or...]

Mm... a few of them in passing, like your dad. I met your brother, Itachi, a few times. He was a really smart kid. I knew Obito pretty well, being Minato's student and all... I think there was another kid or two, but I can't remember their names for the life of me.

[She thinks back, now actively trying to put names with faces. But she had seen a fair number of ninja, especially on occasional trips to Minato's office. Sometimes present when missions were being doled out or when reports were being delivered. Sometimes just seeing them in passing in the village. Strange how information tends to drip away when you need or want it most.]

[He hums, nodding a little before leaning back against the nearby wall and letting his gaze fall downward completely. Of anyone, Kushina knew more about his mom than anyone else in the clan. Eventually he starts murmuring something else, almost too softly to be heard. Maybe it's something Kushina needs to hear, maybe it's something he has to keep telling himself to keep his memory alive. Regardless, he ends up murmuring it aloud anyway.]

She was kind. Stern, but she really cared about us. I don't ever remember seeing her as a Shinobi, though; she was always there for us to help at home or with training.
