[Just over a week since Naruto's announcement to all of Johto and Kanto that his birthday was coming up, the day had finally arrived.

Not too many people were expected to show up (since he did invite EVERYONE) and they'd managed to rent a function room in one of Goldenrod's restaurants for the day. There's plenty of chairs and tables, food, music playing and room to dance if people so wish, you know regular old party stuff.]

We weren't friends, though. I don't think we were friends. I don't know.

[She flicks a hand in the air, brows furrowing. It's obvious this is something that's been bothering her for a while now.]

A comrade looks out for you, right? A comrade trains with you and fights with you and watches your back. Comrades trust each other and don't interfere with stuff that doesn't have to do with a mission, right? So why the hell wouldn't he stop following me around when I was trying to get badges? He's got no interest in badges, and it just doesn't make any sense! It's like he doesn't trust me to be able to travel by myself, or make my own choices--

[She stops again and just shakes her head.]

I don't wanna talk about it.

[John throws his hands up in front of him, waving them a little as leans back ever so slightly with wide eyes. The Whimsicott on his shoulder squeaks a little, grabbing a tighter hold on him so she doesn't fall off. He's clearly touched some kind of nerve and he definitely didn't mean to and wow it's time to backpedal here. ABORT MISSION ABORT MISSION.]

Sorry, sorry! We don't have to talk about it. I just...um. Yeah. Subject change! [There's something else he wants to say on the matter, but he decides to bite his tongue. He's learned by now not to press things that people (especially girls) don't want to talk about. Rarely does that ever end well. And the last thing he wants to do right now is make a scene at a mutual friend's birthday that would be all kinds of rude. She'll talk about it on her own eventually...at least John hopes she will.]

[Good plan because knowing her she'd end up causing a scene and deeply regret it later moving on, subject change master. Her frown doesn't clear, but she does latch onto the new subject without further comment.]

I heard about it, but I don't know if I get it. If it's a haunted house, it's just gonna be a whole bunch of Ghost-types, right? And unless they're there to be caught, what's the point?

To get scared. [That's it. That's the point.]

Because, yeah, you definitely can't catch the ghosts in there. Those are all Jack's, I'm assuming. But it's a Halloween tradition. People set up spooky houses and try to scare the pants off of anybody who comes to visit.
