[Shaun can guess how mean it would be to wreck the poor, uh... guy's neat project, and he's more curious than he is mean. He keeps his hands to himself, folded on his knees.]

So... You're building a town?

[That's okay, he can kind of figure it out.]

Where are the people?

The citizens are all here. See?

[ He indicates the cans. And also the Faygo bottles.

Bottles are now acceptable citizens. Sure, they're not the same as cans, but Can Town has always been very cosmopolitan. Cans that are full, cans that are empty, bottles. All are welcome within.

Oh, okay.

[He wasn't sure, since the buildings are also...cans. But the soda cans are the people and the food cans are the buildings.

It's then that Shaun notices the mayoral sash that the strange little hooded man is wearing.]

So you're the mayor of the town!

Indeed! It is nice to make your acquaintance, sir...?

[ Oh darn his manners got away from him. Humans are supposed to know names.

[Between his size and the way that he talks, there's nothing threatening about the hooded figure, whatever he is. Speaking of.]

[He looks back at Can Town.]

This guy is good people. ]

Indeed! New Can Town's Town Council is lacking several key members. And the re-zoning is going slowly alone.

[ He nudges the chalk box towards Shaun.

Ignore the lack of green and the noticeable bite out of the yellow, okay. ]

Welcome to Democracy, Sir Shaun!

[He's also an amateur artist himself, so he's always excited for a chance to draw on the ground in chalk.

Unfortunately, Shaun picks up the yellow first, and he glances at the bite for a minute before deciding not to say anything.]

Cool! I'll do my best, Mr. Mayor!

[Carefully, so as not to disturb any of the lines already drawn, Shaun starts working on drawing streets between the buildings, painstakingly drawing the double yellow lines as neat as he can.

This isn't just an art project, after all, it's a town.]

It's our duty as democratically elected officials!

[ Which. He is apparently promoting you to? Welcome to life as a democratically elected official, Shaun. It is sure to be a blast!

Look at these citizens, in need of your skills. Clearly the cans and bottles appreciate the careful roadwork.

Or at least the Mayor does, as he busily sets about giving them blue and pink trees lining the streets. And some red fire hydrant type things are important to have, too. ]

[Shaun's never been a democratically elected official before. Probably because he's still about 15 years shy of congressional eligibility.

Shaun watches what the Mayor's doing, and when he's done with the little section of road, he makes a few yellow trees, and then moves to a clear space and zones off a public park, filling it with trees and a few yellow piles of leaves.]

Look, it's a park with leaf piles for the kids to play in! Should I draw a playground, too?

[ It's okay, Shaun, Can Town doesn't discriminate based on age. ...For that matter, no one is sure how old the Mayor is, so that might be...why.

Only a love of democracy and chalk is important, here. ]

Yes, yes! The citizens require plenty of recreational zones...

[ MUCH better than war zones. Yes. ]

We should also include a swimming zone. [ He's never been to a swimming pool but he hears they're pretty rad, man. ]

[As soon as he gets approval, Shaun starts drawing a playground. A swingset, a merry-go-round, a carousel, see-saws, the works.]

Oh yeah, a pool's a really good idea too!

[Shaun takes up the blue and draws a big rectangle and fills it in. He picks up the yellow again and draws a big slide next to the pool, because what's a pool without a slide?]
