[It's good to see that Maka is a reliable individual no matter what the situation is. While traveling between Worlds and dealing with strange scientists who can do such things as make you switch bodies with another person, Saix is pretty used to the outrageous. He also knows that not everyone can accept it so easily. Maka able to makes her all the better in Saix's book besides what she's already done for him.]

I'm Saix. As for getting here, I have no idea but I am not remotely surprised to know that I can't leave this World. [His tone hints this is not the first time he's hit this roadblock.] I've been doing reconnaissance so far.

[As any student of the Academy knows, if you don't adapt to a situation immediately you will almost certainly die.]

I wasn't here before, so...there's something weird going on with the world right now. Maybe you're not supposed to be here right now either and you'll get sent back?

[Deja-vu. Why does she keep having this feeling this has happened before?]

[...Yeah, he's getting this weird feeling of deja vu too, but potentially for different reasons altogether.]

Does anyone know how they arrive on this World, and do strange things happen monthly? I need to settle a suspicion of mine.

No, most of us wake up in the same place, though--in "mom's" house. As for strange things...they happen sometimes, but not monthly? Some older residents have said it happens more around holidays and is accompanied with strange weather.

That doesn't sound like their usual tactics... So I suppose this really is something else entirely.

[Saix sighs, not bothering to explain as he scratches his Umbreon beneath the chin.]

So, what do people do here then?

[She gives him a look, questioning without saying anything "is that where we met?"

But she decides against actually asking, that has nothing to do with anything.]

Whatever they want, really. It mostly centers on living your life here and collecting these little guys. They're called Pokemon. [She gestures at his Umbreon and her Houndoom, though they're not that little.] People sometimes battle or train them, too, they have a lot of amazing abilities.

I've seen creatures like them before... I suppose this is the World where they're originally from.

[A part of him actually seems to relax at that. If it's a phenomenon limited solely to this World, then it's not as much of a crisis as the last two places have been.]

Are you particularly busy?

No, not really. Did you need something?

[She's not a helpful NPC but she may as well be one sometimes.]

Since you seem to have been here the longest, some more information would be appreciated. For example, where are we now specifically?

Okay! This is the Johto region and I'd say we're about...between Goldenrod and Violet City. [And yes there being a lot of trees is normal.] There's another region neighboring this one called Kanto, I was there until...um, something weird brought me over here.

The same thing that brought me here, I assume?

Most likely, and the same thing that brought all of us permanent residents here in the first place.

[..."Permanent resident" that's probably the first time Maka's mentioned anything about the possibility of being stuck in this world for the rest of her life. Bummer.]

[He rubs the back of his neck with a sigh.]

Of course. That seems to be a running theme in the Worlds I've been pulled into. At least this one seems to be less dangerous than the past two. Do you still have your soul perception ability?

[soundmind]

Not usually here, but when the visitors like you came along, it seems like I got it back for the occasion. Not sure what for but I'm not going to complain.

I would hazard a guess that it's because the natural order of things has already been disrupted. However, I haven't been here for very long so I can't honestly say.

Would you be willing to look into something for me, then, since you have it?

[Considering that Saix has already picked up on the fact that Maka is pretty much a shonen protag at her core, he doubts he needs to ask but it never hurts to check.]

Could you take a look at my 'soul'? [He reaches up to tap at his chest.] While you don't remember, you helped me deal with an issue regarding it. I want to make sure it's been recovering properly since then.

Okay...[Probably a familiar sight for Saix, she squares her shoulders and focuses on him. The feeling of Soul Perception "activating" should be familiar as well, pressing, questioning, what was this "issue" and is it still a risk.

She finally breaks contact, shaking her head to clear out Saix's feelings so they don't stick to her own.]

It's...smaller than what I'm used to, as far as souls go, but it feels like it's grown at the same time. There's some other force lingering with it, like it wants to oppress your soul, but they're existing separately without your soul being influenced, if that makes sense?

[croceamors]

[He really is getting far too used to his soul being prodded and messed with by this point.]

[Saix stays tense as Maka stares at him, own soul looking quite anxious as well as it waits to know. When she finally responds, he relaxes.]

I understand. Then everything is going accordingly. I'm not sure what to do about that... other, but as long as its hold isn't as strong as it previous was, I should be able to deal with it. Thank you.

You're welcome. You know, if you've met someone named Dr. Franken Stein, wherever you are now, I'm sure he can do a Soul Purge and rid you of that "other" thing. It'd probably hurt a lot, but it'd get the job done.

Dr. Franken Stein... The name sounds familiar. If I escape from this place with my memories intact, I'll be sure to track him down.

He's a little eccentric, but he's an expert with souls. He was my teacher at the Academy.
