Who: Riku and Sora

Summary: It's Riku's birthday, and Sora, being the sap that he is, has opted to celebrate in the most bombastic way.

[Riku had been so busy working out PGC logistics that he'd lost track of the time. Flying and teleporting across Johto squeezed the energy right out of him, so by the time they made it back into town, he'd collapsed like a rock, unaware of what tomorrow would bring.

When he first wakes up, he doesn't even notice that there's something new on his head. Instead, he marches right up to the door of his room, gasping when confetti sprinkles down over his head. Then and only then does he notice the party hat strapped to his head.

Realizing just what's going on, he storms into the hall shouting--]

Hey, Sora!

[ so maybe Sora has been working all night on this. setting up confetti traps all around. decorating what parts of their place that he can. setting up the cake order and arranging the candles just right.

there are confetti traps under each doorway. and Sora may or may not be passed out at the table. half asleep... ]

[Riku ends up triggering two more confetti traps before he finally spots Sora passed out in the kitchen...

Did he spend all night doing this? Did he seriously work himself to exhaustion? Well, there's a hand clamping down on his shoulder now, giving him a light shake.]

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

[ yeah, that's the sound of Sora being startled awake. sitting upright immediately, and looking around all frantic like. ]

I'm awake I'm awake!

Man, and here I thought you were a heavy sleeper.

[He'll step back and fold his arms. Yeah, he's not gonna be too hard on Sora at a time like this. He may notice that there are still bits of confetti in his hair.]

So, you do all this?

I was only half asleep, thanks...

[ Sora sticks out his tongue. then he looks around sheepishly... his eyes land on Riku's hair. looks like Riku has tripped only a few of them. he starts to snicker. ]

Maybe.

Sure you were.

[He leans towards Sora, wearing a grin that suggests a sudden headlock, maybe a punch to the shoulders, or some other sudden move.

And then Riku just laughs.]

You know, you didn't have to go all out just for my sake.

[ Riku getting in his personal space... that's something that happens rarely. ah well. Sora can take it. he invades Riku's personal space often enough as is. ]

Sure I do. You kinda are my best friend. AND! Kinda thought you might forget what day it is. Can't have that.

[He stops himself, heaving an airy sigh and holding up his hands in surrender.]

Well, okay. I did kind of get sidetracked with all that traveling. I'll give you that.

Duh. Sometimes I know you pretty well, Riku.

[ totally getting a flick to the forehead, bro. ]

There's cake and stuff too, just so you know.

And did you make the cake, too?

[Given Sora's track record for today, nothing would surprise him...

Also, have a flick right back.]

Pfft no. I want you to enjoy your birthday, not potentially poison you...

[ silly Riku. ]

I ordered it.

[ if they are going to start this early, Riku might want to back up. the look in Sora's eye says he has something else in mind than a retaliation flick. ]

Good, because you had me worried for a second.

[And when he sees that look on Sora's face, Riku rolls his shoulders back and holds out both his arms, a silent way of egging him on. C'mon, show him what you've got, dork.]

[ good. because now Sora is lunging at Riku...

in a hug. ]

Happy birthday, Riku.

[God, way to almost knock him over, Sora! Luckily, Riku stands his ground, and though at first he just stares with wide eyes, the shock wears off soon enough. After all, it's Sora, the king of the saps.

So, fine, he'll reciprocate the hug after a second. He'll get by looking like a softy just this once.]

You gonna spoil me all day, you dork?

[Heh. He really is thankful, but it's Riku. He's gotta try looking at least somewhat cool.]

[ in reality, Sora is just so relieved that Riku is here. Riku, his best friend. the guy he pretty much spends all his waking hours with. sure, it's not too much different than when they had been growing up... but this place is different than home.

and well. Sora just wants what is best for his friend, okay? ]

That might be in the plan.

Should I be afraid?

[He's already been showered with confetti. What else could Sora possibly have in mind? Last year he had a party, this year it's just him and his best bud.

Well, whatever he's got in store, Riku's down for it.]

Cake. Enough ice cream to make you sick to your stomach. Five different flavors, just so you know.

And other surprises. You know... Just waiting for you to trip them.

[ one room might be rigged to drop balloons everywhere and popcorn in another. fun stuff. ]

What're you trying to do, turn me into a blimp?

[God, Sora. Riku's fine with desserts, but that's insane... and he's probably gonna try going for it anyway, because who is he to turn down a challenge?]

And while we're at it, do you expect me to check every single room in the building?

[...That, too, could make an interesting challenge.]

Try, being the key word there.

[ now it's Sora's turn... to ruffle Riku's hair. with some snickers. ]

You don't have to check them. But if you want your gifts, you might have to.

[Oh yeah? You think you can just get away with that, bub?

Then watch as Riku grabs Sora by the arm, pulls him closer, and vigorously messes with his hair for a split second.]

All right, challenge accepted. Not like I had any big plans, anyway.

[In fact, he'll start off by turning towards the hall, cracking his knuckles and straightening his back. He'll check every last door if he has to.]

[ not even going to act like that is such a big deal. because it's not. hair ruffles from Riku is just a natural part of life. one that Sora is now just used to and accepts. he snorts, amused and grinning.

and then runs a hand through his hair. ]

So get going.

[Oh, he'll get going riiight about now, strutting down the hall and flinging doors open. He'll start with one of the spare guest rooms that he's left open for some of the 'mons. Slash seems to have taken it up as a part time study, though at the moment he's elsewhere in the building.

So, any surprises within?]

[ this one is a little "meaner" than the others. what drops on Riku happens to be glitter. glitter and paper flowers. hope you can enjoy that. Sora is just following behind. grinnnnnnning. ]

[The sudden onslaught of sparkles sends Riku stumbling back and batting the flowers and glitter out of his face. One or two flowers get caught in his hair, and he whips around and stomps towards Sora...

And promptly plucks the two flowers out of his hair and places them on top of Sora's head.]

There, they suit you better.

[ bah! his hands are going through his hair to shake out all of the flowers and stuff.

but at least he got Riku good with that one. good luck getting all of that glitter out, dude. it's super fine. ]

Awww, Riku...
