Summary: It's Riku's birthday, and Sora, being the sap that he is, has opted to celebrate in the most bombastic way.

[Riku had been so busy working out PGC logistics that he'd lost track of the time. Flying and teleporting across Johto squeezed the energy right out of him, so by the time they made it back into town, he'd collapsed like a rock, unaware of what tomorrow would bring.

When he first wakes up, he doesn't even notice that there's something new on his head. Instead, he marches right up to the door of his room, gasping when confetti sprinkles down over his head. Then and only then does he notice the party hat strapped to his head.

Realizing just what's going on, he storms into the hall shouting--]

Hey, Sora!

[ now it's Sora's turn... to ruffle Riku's hair. with some snickers. ]

You don't have to check them. But if you want your gifts, you might have to.

[Oh yeah? You think you can just get away with that, bub?

Then watch as Riku grabs Sora by the arm, pulls him closer, and vigorously messes with his hair for a split second.]

All right, challenge accepted. Not like I had any big plans, anyway.

[In fact, he'll start off by turning towards the hall, cracking his knuckles and straightening his back. He'll check every last door if he has to.]

[ not even going to act like that is such a big deal. because it's not. hair ruffles from Riku is just a natural part of life. one that Sora is now just used to and accepts. he snorts, amused and grinning.

and then runs a hand through his hair. ]

So get going.

[Oh, he'll get going riiight about now, strutting down the hall and flinging doors open. He'll start with one of the spare guest rooms that he's left open for some of the 'mons. Slash seems to have taken it up as a part time study, though at the moment he's elsewhere in the building.

So, any surprises within?]

[ this one is a little "meaner" than the others. what drops on Riku happens to be glitter. glitter and paper flowers. hope you can enjoy that. Sora is just following behind. grinnnnnnning. ]

[The sudden onslaught of sparkles sends Riku stumbling back and batting the flowers and glitter out of his face. One or two flowers get caught in his hair, and he whips around and stomps towards Sora...

And promptly plucks the two flowers out of his hair and places them on top of Sora's head.]

There, they suit you better.

[ bah! his hands are going through his hair to shake out all of the flowers and stuff.

but at least he got Riku good with that one. good luck getting all of that glitter out, dude. it's super fine. ]

Awww, Riku...

Hey, don't be so modest. Here, I'll even give you a little extra pizazz.

[By attempting to sprinkle at least some of the glitter on top of him before he reaches for the neighboring door. Ooh, what could be behind this one?]

[ worst best friend. you're not meant to share the birthday "fun" out of spite. shame on you. don't be hating because Sora is getting the better of you here.

and this room doesn't hold a trap. just a gift! ]

[It's called teasing, not spite. Gosh, Sora, way to be a critic.

Buuuut a gift is a welcome change of pace. So welcome that Riku struts right up to the gift, ready to tear through the wrapping like a pro.]

[ hey, hey... you started it. B(

and the gift is TM 34 - Swagger. get it? B) ]

... Swagger?

[Riku stares at the disc for around ten seconds before slooowly turning around...

And wiggling his eyebrows like a doofus. This is him attempting a smolder to prove a point.]

Yeah, that move's not me.

[ welp. can't have this. Sora puts a hand over his heart. the other on his forehead. ]

Oh Riiiku!~

[ totes fake swooning. and pretend fainting.

then he starts breaking out in fits of laughter. from the floor. ]

You want me to stick a rose between my teeth while we're at it?

[He rolls his eyes, drumming his fingers against his thigh. What a dweeb..]

Shouldn't I be the one with the rose between my teeth? I mean... You're the princess here, Riku.

[And now he's just gonna lean over Sora with a deadpan look.]

I can't help it, Riku. There's something I've always needed to tell you, but never had the courage to...

[ look at him. he's getting all anxious. nervous. and then there goes the lip quiver.

all from being flat on his back on the floor. ]

[He sloowly raises one of his eyebrows. On the upside, at least he hasn't flicked Sora in the forehead or something.]

[ Sora rolls onto his knees, snatching Riku's hands. annnnd yanks him down. ]

You are the biggest dork I've ever met. It's a good thing that I'm your best friend because I don't think anyone else could handle you.

[And now for the moment of truth...

He looks toward Sora leeaaans close...

And then baps him on the shoulder with one of those trademark Riku smirks.]

You're right. I'm a force that can't be controlled; maybe it's a good thing that little dating ad flopped.

Ow...

[ only it doesn't really hurt but Sora rubs his shoulder anyway. ]

It flopped because things like that aren't very attractive, Riku.

[ sticks out tongue. ]

You say that like I'd go around punching anyone who showed interest in me.

[He crosses his arms and tips his head back.]

Maybe you're just special.

[And also easy to tease. That certainly helps.]

Aww, Riku. It's so cute you think I'm interested.

[ look at that. he can tease too. ]

Well, with the way you gush about me sometimes, you gotta wonder...

[He snorts, knowing a tease when he hears one. So here, have a counter tease.]

[ Sora's hands go in the air.. and then he hangs his head. ]
